As long as the internet still depends ads to make money, this is not solvable problem. It started even before "Amusing ourselves to death" was written, only now with social media, we have 10x or 100x more powerful tools to harvest attention. You can warn people about its negativity, but I doubt you can be as successful with social media as with cigarettes, as people are social animals and they are living online now, the urge to connect with others is in the genes, unlike nicotine.
