Surviving Narcissism

Күн бұрын

Narcissists are difficult to interact with due to their controlling, entitled ways, but when they also have strong sociopathic tendencies, their dysfunction goes to an even higher level. Dr. Les Carter explains how sociopaths not only disregard you, but also societal norms in general. It is essential to understand how they think and operate so you can avoid the hurt they generate.

Vengeance is of the Lords. Clearly the injured Narc doesn't know God (Jesus), because of all their back biting, back stabbing, gossiping & vindictive behavior. God despises the proud/egotist (Narc), but gives grace to the humble. A proud man/woman (narc) rarely cares to know God, because they are too busy looking down their nose at the world around them and can't know the one above it all = God. Pride goes before destruction. Haughty spirit goes before a fall and one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord of all (Daniel 7:13,14). Isaiah 53 👀 John 16:33

This is a reflection of my marriage. I married a sociopathic covert narcissist who outwardly is an overachiever and a caring individual. But behind closed doors she is a cold, selfish, gas-lighter who has destroyed my self-esteem and confidence. After 14 years and two kids, I’ve lost hope in ever thinking she will change or get better. I never thought one person could do so much mental damage. My heart goes out to all of you in the same situation who feel hopeless or trapped. These videos have been my biggest ally and I draw strength with every one.

Thats because the whole time they are telling you how great you are, its all an act. They just need to suck you in, get you close and vulnerable and that makes them feel safe and secure. Then they power trip all over you, put downs, criticism, judgmental comments and worse. So what you though was love at first, was really nothing more than a very skilled set up.

I hear you. What's there to miss? Chaos? Terror? Confusion? Grief? Constant gaslighting? Neglect? ABUSE! My life coach told me not to grieve too long because I wasn't in a "real" marriage with a "real" person. I was in an entrapment/captive situation with a horrifically toxic person. Who I missed most was my real self and I was never connected to that because I grew up in a psychopathic/narcissistic family where I was trafficked from age 2 until 20. I have D.I.D from all the lifelong horrific abuse but am working towards integration and have cultivated love/compassion and kindness for all parts of me now. Finally connecting within myself to the love that's been there all along.

Doing the inner work to reconnect with the Truth/Love within us is the most precious gift we can ever give ourselves and we have always, always been worthy of it. I had to learn to reparent all my wounded child parts and do my best to have a nurturing, warm, welcoming inner place for them and me to heal together. What I learned after being surrounded by the worst of humanity is that "evil" so to speak, cannot destroy out true self. Sending you warmth and kindness.

I worked with a person like this and he was more satisfied with running our work into the ground than seeing it finished. The completed work would have benefited him more than anyone else, but to satisfy his ego total destruction and humiliation of myself was the better route. He harassed me for up to 2 years after the project was destroyed at his hands, before finally going away and leaving me alone. He was desperate to look like a big shot or a decision-maker and also didn't want to look like a fool when people found out he had lied about his ability to finance the project we were working on.

I was born the youngest of 4 kids. Covert narc Dad and partner in crime, the oldest child, my brother. Me and my Mom were covertly and constantly emotionally traumatized through the most devious methods imaginable. The middle kids were brainwashed to beieve we were the problem, while they were deemed the beacons of truth and respect. As the youngest, my live ended at 5 yrs old. 55 suicidal years followed. It took 50 yrs to unravel, but I now have zero family. The middle kids still have no idea what's going on, blaming themselves for their messed up lives, never the tricksters who made them confused and against me and mom (the only christians). The oldest is rich and has a million dollar home in florida, while the other 3 kids are all unemployed, on disability, and living in a psychological hell. Hell yes, there are evil, a special type of evil. My faith in God keeps me alive, barely.

Similar here, oldest daughter with younger brothers. My dad is all this and trying to talk with him, is impossible. I told him once, he hated being a father, of course he denied. My brothers aren’t even aware of this. When I first learned of this, I tried talking softly, because of his childhood, but no luck there. I was a whole different parent because of him. My mom is passed. She’s finally in peace, I say, but I miss her terribly. Had I known about all this, I would of gotten her out. Heal well, because for me, it’s really hard to just not think of my life as a child, being a big lie.

As always, you've summed up Mom's behavior in a nuthsell 100%. I initially picked up on her being a sociopath all the way back in 2002, back when I first started to question the choices she made. For example, where she would be standing behind her target, saying nasty things to them & pulling offensive hand gestures at them & laughing at their expense, saying "It's a game" (literally saying that to 8-year-old me, at the time). Like... I would warn her that they are not gonna give a pleasant reaction, when they see you doing that to them & she'd laugh at that & go "I don't care". Then, later on, she'd call the police on them, if they gave her a violent reaction. Like... back then, I knew that is not normal & something was wrong with Mom. As the years go by, I have learned a lot about her, as her sociopathic & narcissistic behavior became more obvious (she's now at a point, where her toxicity is worsening with age). Now, I am at the point where I am establishing boundaries with her & every time I set a boundary (such as my rule about people talking to me before I have had my morning coffee. Now, everyone that knows me, knows & respects this boundary), Mom gets angry & aggressive at me, then goes passive aggressive, then... I don't know if this is her narcissism, sociopathy, or if it's a her thing, but once she has done all of this, she will carry on as though none of her abusive behavior has ever happened (Like... as though *nothing* has happened, at all). I have also come to terms with the fact that the only change that she will make, is that her behavior will get worse, as she ages. She will *never* change for the better. Which is what has brought me to your channel, in the first place, so that I can learn better & healthy ways to disconnect myself from Mom's control & reduce the impact of the trauma she continues to cause me.

I have had 3 full mental health break downs that required hospitalization. She has lied her face off about me to others, she has physically attacked me and harmed me. The police have been involved with her over 300 times. She is a professional and pitting one against another. My own mom passed away 7 years ago. My daughter asked to have my moms ashes for just two weeks after mom died. Well now it’s been 7 years and she refuses to give the ashes back. Now my moms family won’t even talk to me because of it. My daughter has caused me immense pain and suffering. I have been with my spouse, her father, for 40 years. and she puts him against me. Our lives have been a living nightmare for over 2 decades now. It is almost like it doesn't register with him. I have dealt with a lot of manipulation, gaslighting, and blame shifting. I have dealt situations where he was clearly in the wrong and he try to put blame back on me when I would stick up for myself. He is completely toxic to a certain extent. He basically murdered me with his words. I have completely backed away and have tried to have good boundaries with him. But he doesn't respect them. He has honestly been my greatest enemy. I would do what you need to do to not let a person that is this way to pull you down with them. My parents home schooled me So that they could keep me and My siblings below them. But unfortunately for them I had talents they did not and when I left at 18 and expanded on these I was treated terribly physically and verbally abused And as I started out doing them The door kept shutting until It eventually did completely..... My stepfather is an overt narc and sociopath. I grew up under his reign of terror and have needed intense therapy as an adult to be able to cope with the trauma he inflicted. The physical violence wasnt too often but the threat of violence was there daily. I remember hearing his car pull up in our driveway and my mother yelling "everyone get up and look busy! He is here!" He tortured me emotionally and mentally for years, going as far as throwing my tiny dog against a brick wall to hurt me. He is still a sadistic SOB but cant physically hurt us anymore as we are grown.....although in absolute honesty im still terrified of him. I try to stay away from him and my mother these days, i used to feel sorry for her but i now realise she chose to put us through hell for security so my attitude is one of apathy towards her.

He got me doubting myself because he didn't actually say to me you must , you can't, whatever, but did argue with my opinions, I felt exhausted,I didn't leave straight away because I loved this person and I was unstable before we met. I got into these kind of situations more than once because of my vulnerability. I'm angry with myself for repeating it!? I've finally seen the light and unfortunately I trust no one, I'll make a point of letting any potential suitor know what I've been through and how wise and enlightened I now am even if they appear kind you have to be careful,it's often just to reel you in! It's left me very hurt and depleted but I'm proud I got out of the trauma bonding which made me so Ill.its their loss especially if you are doing better than they are and to show them you're having a better time without them. Forget closure it won't happen but closure is moving on and finding peace.

Ohh i can't wait to hear this. Before i can hear what you gonna say. I was friends with a Sociopath who was afraid of who he was, he always worried what people think, he was in denial of his sexuality. What he would do, he would mess with my brains, act like he so into me to get me to fall in love with him, he exploited my sexuality to get love and admiration from me. When i finally open up to him and thinking he would do the same in return, he put on quit a show, he broke my spirit, lower my self esteem, traumatize me.. it felt like someone told me my mom pass away it was the most fuck up day of my life cause i had grow and love and trust this person so much cause he made me felt i was special, i even thought that it was too good to be true, but i was Naive and uneducated when come to narcissism, well i knew what it is, i just never knew what it call. As of right now, i will never forgive that person, if he ever try to talk to me i would act like i didn't hear anything.. it was just a passing wind.

It is very sad what that person did to you. You sound like a kind and loving person. Sorry you had to experience such poor treatment. You said you would never forgive him. But, Forgiving is good for you and your recovery from the abuse. It is very hard to forgive and understand fully. Forgive, but stay away from him. Learn from this situation and move on. Don't live with negativity in your soul. Forgiving will Release it. Listen to Dr. C!

@@dawor1761 yes when i mean i will never forgive him, i would treat him like he doesn't exist. But i did release most of my pain i have the understanding that releasing is good for your recovery and some of it is not there fault. When we first met, he always preach about forgiveness and how it is so wrong for ppl to kill their self and he inflicting that very same pain on the ppl that love and fully trusted him, i am a nice loving person but i no longer have the heart for ppl who are wicked and dwell on beein very deceithful and revengeful like him. They do need to pay tho for what they did to ppl by being by their self and no one to interact with

I wish I knew this years ago. The information was not available back then. My husband of 3 decades, I have learned recently, was a narcissist/sociopath/psychopath. I'm an empath. He's been dead 12 years . In his last years the VA psychiatrist diagnosed him as antisocial personality disorder. I didn't know that meant psychopath, I thought it meant antisocial. And I also learned recently my mother was a narcissist 🤷‍♀️ so most of my life I've been lost in confusion of them being kind one minute and a raging bull the next . My husband loved to be a chameleon. Very insidious, many times I didn't think I would get out alive. Then when he did leave, he came after me. I'm lucky to have survived. Needless to say, I don't look for relationships ! I'm perfectly happy being on my own with people I can trust. Thank you for your deep insights into this subject. Its helping so many people!!!

Your story sounds exactly like mine. I used to watch Oprah every day hoping she would have answers for me. I was worried that living under constant stress would effect my health. Sure enough it did, cancer 2 times, thryoid trouble, kidney disease, blood clots, etc. I'm still alive, my ex has died, and I'm surviving but I sure wish someone had answers for me back in the 60's, 70's. Yes now that I'm alone I relish the alone-ness and don't want to answer to any man again!

I was raised by a borderline parent (or two?) and I'm currently co-parenting with a prime example of a such. Maybe in a few generations their breed will be legally identifiable, quantifiable and ideally sectioned, in the meantime it's a daily struggle. In my opinion, these people should be simply labelled as socio/psychopaths. Narcissist is a very benign term for them.

I knew my then husband for 32 years. I confronted him and asked him if he had a gf. When he admitted it, it was as though he flicked a light switch off. He quit communicating with me. Even though our marriage was on life support, we still were friends. Once he found another, his addictive personality found comfort in love bombing her and he never looked back. He’s hurting our kids too. He has always placed this new gf before his own. And a few weeks ago, he gave them an ultimatum: accept this stranger he’s been living with for the last 11 months (he went straight from our home to hers), or he didn’t want to see his kids without her anymore. My kids are destroyed by this. My 21 yo daughter sobbed as she exclaimed, “I’m no longer daddy’s girl”. And my 20 and 18 yo sons are needing their dad so badly right now, but he’s left them behind. All 3 have therapists. They tried to go to family therapy with their dad, but as soon as he realized the therapist wasn’t enamored with the charm he thinks he has, and she challenged him to focus on how his kids felt - not just how he felt - he quit going. This vid has helped me understand my now ex truly has sociopathic behavior. idk how he sleeps at night.

Wow the narcissists with extra everything. Now the sociopath is not the apparently meanest one, can be very well hidden, highly educated, talented, or just ordinary, but with lack of all boundaries, drugs, women, money both spent like mad and tight like mad at the same time, the spend like mad applies to themselves for themselves. This video was a good warning, there ARE worse than the easily predictable narcissists, sociopaths are pure PREDATOR NARCISSISTS.
