First heard this tune smoking hash in 1985, home on leave from the military. To this day, I cannot get this song out of my head. It is so haunting, poignant, spot on, simple yet so complex, that I have yet to hear a song better. There is a line in George Eliot's 'Middlemarch' in which one of the characters -- Fred Vincy, I think -- is described as the "heir to nothing in particular". If Marr and Morrissey were reading George Eliot, more props to them. This performance is as fresh and powerful as the single from more than 35 years earlier. Johnny Marr is a bad motherf___er.
@Jerryman-yg8ii25 күн бұрын
What is middlemarch about , I thot ide read his books
@rickrose537724 күн бұрын
@@Jerryman-yg8ii Well, George Eliot is actually a woman. It's the pen name of Mary Ann Evans. Middlemarch is a fictional 19th century English town, and the novel is, well -- epic. It deals with a lot of things: marriage, the status of women, wealth, privilege and the nature of inheritance and industry in 19th century England. There are remarkable characters of every variety. It's one of the greatest and most ambitious novels in the English language.
