I have been saying this for years, and have wanted to make this exact video for some time now, but time has been too limited. The highest contributing factor to distortion in a car audio system is the car itself. People have obviously called me biased, but the proof is in the data. Thank you for doing this. To the people: Stop spending money upgrading amplifiers, speakers, sources, etc etc. Your dollar goes orders of magnitude further on sound deadening to the point where its laughable to spend money on other upgrades when 99% of installs are lacking in the sound treatment department.

I'm surprised there aren't more videos like this done by CLD manufacturers.... nice work! Thank you for continuing to produce the most relevant and useful videos. I look forward to all of them more than any other video series in the industry.

@@ResoNixSoundSolutions If I had more time my installation would be done! Kids, wife, and work have to come first unfortunately so I totally understand. Kudos for donating to Raw-Cat and at the same time shout out to you for your current promotion to help a car audio member in need. The sincerity of that is not going unnoticed and although I just put in an order earlier this month I think I might have make another to support the cause... Cheers!

We knew we would see the difference, but it’s nice to see the actual results. Sure appreciate all the work you do! Nick should sponsor you to test his product against others? Resonix is expensive, but would love to see if it’s worth it. You do such a great job comparing products!! Thanks!

Simply Excellent measurement and build-work that very clearly visualises the massive differences we can hear before/after treatment. 🙂👍 This also in part explains why all OEM- stereos in cars sounds like boring, cheap crap.

I've heard some very impressive sounding stock systems. Oem's are clearly putting DSPs to work.

I am surprised how effective the sound treatment in your door panel was, as your driver is barely playing those high frequencies. It might have 16cm. This result makes me very confident in the sense of treating my panels even I have only a 10cm midrange speaker sitting inside, which will probably play 190-1000Hz

Its just the FR that might see okay. We cant see the attack and the decay that are another big factor of the listening expirience.

Wow, that's great information. I wonder if you are comparing mid-bass in the door Vs kick panel. Should you also add block-off plates to the door? Or do you think it won't help the case at all for mid-bass in-doors?

Is it necessary to calibrate the sound card to take measurements? What happens if we don't?
@RAW-CAtАй бұрын
Unless you have a very sh***y soundcard, it will not need calibration. Most audio interfaces will have a very flat frequency response.
@Jake-kb2leАй бұрын
So aftermarket midbass and stock midbass has same frequency response ? Could somebody explain me whats the point of buying premium speakers then ? Is there something i dont know ?
@RAW-CAtАй бұрын
In the range I tested it just so happened that both speakers have almost the same frequency response. For most speakers the biggest difference would be the top end. That is more important for a 2way. The benefit of a quality aftermarket midbass driver is output and distortion at high levels. OEM speakers will crap out if you will push them, a beefy aftermarket driver will play much louder keeping composure. Frequency response is just one of many factors.
@Jake-kb2leАй бұрын
@@RAW-CAt So I guess quality wise it matters the most if we do EQ-ing ? Cause we have a lot of power so we can boost without distortions.
@kai-isms6868Ай бұрын
I’ve left the stock drivers in after sound deadening and it’s very easy to max them out, no power handling at all. Also lots of distortion meaning a muddy sound and poor transient response. Everything sounds cleaner with a lot more impact on a real speaker.
@Jake-kb2le21 күн бұрын
@@kai-isms6868 Yeah I had similar experience. When I was doing my setup first thing I did was changing original speakers to neodymium once, and the difference was huge. I'm surprised with these test results. I don't think sound deadening gave me equal result, but to be fair these door panels didnt resontate too much from the start.

Dampening? I always try to keep my interiors dry.
@AlastasiusАй бұрын
I always try to tell people to get away from the doors. The doors are definitely the worst environment for drivers. Luxury cars tend to do better in this regard, and perhaps they can be much better at it, but even then, I'd prefer another solution. Rather, in the kicks or underseat.
@JasonWW2000Ай бұрын
I guess it depends on the volume levels. At normal listening levels that a factory system can play at it can be pretty good. Once the volume starts to get higher and higher, though that's when you really start to get all the vibrations and resonances.
