too bad you couldn't get the Dayton RS100 in here. They call it their "reference, low distortion, midrange diver" and at $34, seems the value is up there with the faitalPRO units, if it performs. What an awesome and interesting test. I know this is the content so many of us want and needed. Fantastic work, and great summary… if you can call 1.5 hours a summary 😅

I keep thinking I should change my Faital 3FE22's but I'm worried i'm gonna spend more money and not improve the sound. I bought them as a stop gap to see how I liked midbass in doors with widebands in the pillars before I committed to buying something 'better', now I'm not sure much will be much better. My take is that if can play all of the frequencies you need with in a few db's you can correct the response with eq. If you are running a system without eq then the response would be way more important. I guess that's why very good home speakers are so expensive, because most people don't run eq.

Faital FE25 vs Lavoce for use with an 8" MB (likely kick, likely IB, but not inverted if I can help it) in an active 2-way with the potential to go 3-way in the future? Or rather, anything under the $100 budget range because if I step up from there I think I'll just go Scanspeak or One Audio, TBH.

Very cool. Hope you keep doing this from time to time and adding to the data. Ive tried some of the 4s in this but where I want/need to use them they just stick out too much for me. So been messing around with 3s and smaller for a while now. There are a couple domes other than the peerless that Ive been thinking of trying out, those peerless domes are pretty nice other than the issues youve mentioned but the price is good enough it makes it hard to justify spending a ton more for some of the other options out there. Like why spend 90 or 150 or even more for the chance at marginally better performance when these are pretty amazing for 35-44 bucks a pair.

Hi, i didn't know how to reach out to you, so i just have to write a random comment. I'm always wondering which Pink Noise you have to use to measure in the car. I got my uncorrelated pink noise from my Audiotec Fischer DSP and this is also the one I am using. When i take a measurement from a REW generated pink noise, I measure different results when measuring multiple speakers (the sums). So I think you use REW generated (correlated!) pink noise when measuring the sums, which leads to a deviation in the lows and highs. Am I wrong with my claim or do you use diffenent pink noises for 1-speaker measurements and multiple speaker measurements? I'd love to get an answer from you, maybe this could be a nice video idea!

From what I understand, it would be useful to divide these distortions even further into the second, third and fifth harmonics to see how they are distributed. The better the loudspeaker, the lower it is third from second and fifth from third. I learned a lot about this by reading the German Hobby HiFi magazine for designers and builders of loudspeakers.

Greetings Rawcat, I hope all is well with you and your family. Quick question, would you spend more coin on tweeters or midrange in an active 3 way set up? Some say human hearing is mostly covered by the midrange, but doesn’t the tweeter produce those details that give a crisp and clear sound? Thanks a lot in advance ❤

Loved the video! Get some sleep! However... Would you consider doing this testing with Midbass drivers and Tweeters? I know that'd be a lot of work, and can be done long into the future lol 😅 I just got some Silver Flute W17RC38-04 6.5" midbass drivers because I've heard they're very good, for the money ($35X2=$70 for the pair plus shipping and tax). Initial UMIK-2 & REW measurements are looking good just doing near field without the driver in a box. I did just order some FaitalPRO 3FE22 3" Neo for $37.50X2=$75 plus tax and shipping on Monday..... Couple days before this video.... Oh well!! They still did good in this movie so I don't think that they'll disappoint! Just wondering if they'd pair well with the SB Acoustics SB26STCN-C000-4 tweeters I bought with the silver flutes as well? Maybe do a Mundorf AMT and the FaitalPRO's? Ported enclosure on a PC desk? The 6.5" SFs are a little too big 😅 Long comment for a long video lmfao Maybe I should just start my own channel using my UMIK-2 lol

Fantastic work! So…… what else I would like you to measure is how some of these drivers measure when reflected off a windscreen at 45 degrees as this is often done in car audio. Regarding the impulse response, I would expect the slow decay to result in a lack of subjective clarity, or blurring. But this can be quite subtle and you need a very clean source. In my experience, really high levels of subjective clarity are very hard to achieve with car systems.
