How Space King CHANGED the Indie Animation Scene FOREVER (Analysis/Review)

Space King is an animation by FlashGitz that is a basic parody of Warhammer 40k, but everyone is talking about how different it is than other indie animations like Helluva Boss, Hazbin Hotel and The Amazing Digital Circus.
Let's see what the takeaway is in my review and analysis of this project and see if it lives up to the hype.

I think we stuck on that joke about Chestnut collecting the globules for so long to drive home a) how unglamorous his work is in the squad and b) to show how lonely and uncomfortable his role is for him (I feel like Chestnut being the only survivor will be a running gag) I really dug Space King…tbh the hyperassholish characters without any (foreseeable) character development towards being “better” is honestly fitting and I couldn’t imagine it being any other way. The franchise SK is parodying is a horrific universe filled with horrific asshole characters, the trick is to make these characters genuinely funny and entertaining, if (hopefully) unrelatable.

I doubt those characters are gone for long, the essence of who they are seems to be in those holy globules and most likely they will recreate a space marine of the same personality and disposition. For all we know they save their mental engrams for indoctrination of later recruits.

Mannn, the glob extraction scene wasn't so bad lmao It was a breather for what we just witnessed in the episode. Atleast I was letting the plot sink in during the relatively quiet sequence I see where you're coming from, jokes being drawn out. But as a one off (which what it was) I atleast enjoyed the small payoff of having Chestnut being screwed with and hearing the audio really

I don't know, I really think this series is about problems that young men face about themselves and how they are viewed and treated. I think as the series continues we might see character development where the main cast develope, assuming there will be a main cast

Space King is amazing but I think it's reaching to say it's 'changed' the Indie animation scene. Flashgitz has already been part of the scene, the irreverent comedy part, which has pretty much been _the_ scene for most it's history, it's what's relatively easy to do. I started with the guys coming from Newgrounds like Oney and Harry Partridge all those years ago. It's stuff like Lackadaisy and the Amazing Circus that are the standouts right now trying to do serious narrative work, along with comedy and _musicals_ , that is _not_ the norm. Nothing against Space King, I've been watching Flashgitz since the first Space Hulk animation, but I mean that's the thing, it's just a longer form of their parody animations. It changes the _WH40k_ parody scene, by being a complete satire and parody of the original work, without just directly using the actual characters. I don't think I've ever seen that done before, and nothing so longform since TTS.

The pilot for Helluva Boss was pretty edgy newsground stuff but the series turned into something completely different, so I wouldn't exrapolate what the whole series would be like. There should always be room for edgy stuff and the vid still got millions of views even if it's not as popular as Helluva or Digital Circus it has it's base.
