This is why it can be so toxic when someone goes against the grain (see: Narcissa Wright for example), but also very wholesome and supportive with its own in-group. Way back in the day, when we first learned about the glitch in Kingdom Hearts 1 at the final boss Destiny Islands where you can infinite jump out of bounds, my sister and I had a bit of a gag that doing things like that 'angered the video game gods' - and we feared them. It’s really gratifying to me that these skips are actually possible because as a kid I threw Jak into the lava of fire canyon dozens of times trying to cheese my way with some sort of completely theoretical infinite damage boost, and for the skip to be exactly that is amazing to me. I correctly theorized an actual speedrun skip as an 8 year old. I also tried to find the other skips mentioned, though I was as unsuccessful as the majority of the community in those cases too.

Had that experience with Spyro Enter the Dragonfly as a kid, where I just went straight through the elemental breath gates that block off the sections of the hub world.
