@Sora_Halomon

@@DragonatrixI think it has a lot less to do with intentional gatekeeping and more to do with the fact that there are very few people involved in any game's speed running community, and there's no existing standard to classify games across all speedruns. So you have an issue of A. Fragmenting an already small group of players into categories that B. That small group of players may not have the forethought to create. In practice I think, just as showcased in this video, most people are going to be more impressed by the skill based, slower Speedrun than what is technically the world record holder. And for the vast majority of games it's not like there's any non-social/self-improvement benefit to getting WR.

@Alex-ex8ob

They're not that different. The loads on PS2 are slower, one piece of movement tech doesn't work, and maybe two other small things but PS3 is just a faster and better PS2. I'm not that into speed running I think somethings are cool and I wasn't sure I'd make it through the video I was just trying to tap some nostalgia but at the ISF part I knew why I was watching still. There's something OG about the shitty video quality of old recorded runs. I mean, they weren't necessarily made for viewing pleasure. They were usually made for verification purposes. Plus, KZbin was a baby back then and Twitch was still swimmin' in its daddy's ballbag, so there wasn't much of a reason/audience.

Imma comment here cause it's the latest video but this is general to your content, I like how you talk about your own achievements you sound so proud and not cocky it's quite wholesome. It's cool to have the history narrated by a guy who was part of it, maybe because it gives a feel of continuity like it's not in the past you're still there even if obviously none of the other histories are about dead people lol it's just a slight feel it gives. I've listened to a ton of WR histories or progression and none do it like you, I mean including their stuff like you do for what it's worth. Addin to the overall noticable quality of your narrating / editing / sound mix or whatever "the video sounds good" it ends up being really good content. It gets a bit dull if you're talking for a really long time about the same thing but you do manage your structure quite decently and mix up what you're talking about (short stories, strategies, level walkthrough etc). tldr good shit dude.

Feels hella good listening to mgs2 and tekken soundtracks whilst you talk in depth about speed run lore. Cheers

I'm not a huge speedrun fan, I've only ever done one speedrun of a game and that was sub one hour RE3 Remake on NG+ and it was just for the challenge to complete the game quickly and I only did it once. But I do really love these videos, years of tech and discoveries and rivalries condensed nicely into a well-edited and commentated format is fantastic

I did slope intercepts on the ramp test thing in R&C2's Insomniac Museum a lot, I always called it "Leapfrogging" because the way I did it made Ratchet move in a way that resembled a jumping frog. But, I noticed that once I reached the ramp marked as a 70° angle, I couldn't slope intercept from it because it was too steep.

I found your channel back when you did the Jak3 speedrun at GDQ as it was one of the best-commentated things I'd seen outta that event. I've been addicted to your videos ever since

Speedrunning (as much as I love to watch runs) is so beyond me, I admire runners greatly. Aside from that, your posture is IMMACULATE. I could only hope to attain such posture. 😂🥺🙏

I played this game back in the day and this kind of speed-run history is fascinating. Your Orxon video was great too.

It's kind of impressive to me how much this level's run has changed. It had both the most difficult trick to pull off and horrible RNG, but also didn't have them at the same time. The fact it also just generally went back and forth between being easy then frustrating, then easy then frustrating again.
