Hey, everyone. This is kind of a different video. Took me a while to write and rewrite and re-rewrite, and even after it was finished I debated with myself and my friends about whether or not I should make it public. There's still a lot I'd change about this, and a lot more I wish I had the time or ability to say the way I want. But Stan was always in a constant state of creation, making one thing and moving on to the next. I wanted to take a page from his playbook there and not leave this video shelved forever. The characters Stan co-created with all the other talented artists and writers over at Marvel have impacted my life more than anything, and I hope this video is a small step towards showing my deepest gratitude. Thanks, Stan.

People like Stan still give me hope in this world, and even though he died, his characters are still a part of him, a part of him that will live on forever as long as marvel keeps going, and spiderman is the best example of what he represented, and I know I'll never lose the respect I have for him. Small correction at 10:41 - I accidentally said Robin Thicke when I meant Alan Thicke. I promise it was written correctly in the script, but I was an idiot and just said it wrong. My bad.

Robin Scherbatsky of "How I Met Your Mother" knew Alan Thicke. And, of course, Cobie Smulders made her way into the MCU after her role as Robin. So, somehow, according to some posthoc reasoning, "Robin Thicke" makes total sense as a mental slip.

I remember when I was 11 years old, I went to my first ever Comic-Con in New York with my family. I heard Stan Lee was going to be there at the time, and I thought, "This is my moment, this is where I'm going to meet him and tell him how grateful I am for the influence his creations have had on me!" Alas, all we saw was a sign saying Stan would be there to sign autographs the day BEFORE we went... We had just missed him. I was disappointed for sure, but I still held on to hope that one day, I would get to shake Stan's hand, get an autograph and picture with him, and say "Thank you, Stan, for everything". Unfortunately, that day will never come to pass now. Not meeting Stan Lee and tell him "thank you" will probably be one of my biggest regrets in life. But actions speak louder than words. Stan's passing still has not fully resonated with me yet, and I am just starting to realize how much I will miss him. But he has given me everything I need as an aspiring artist and creator. Each of us, whether we're an artist, a writer, a musician, or a scientist has the power to spread more positivity in the world and make it a better place, now it's our responsibility to use those talents in a way that will make Stan proud, and tell him, "Thank you, Stan, for everything". 'Nuff Said!

I uh... Wow... I sometimes don't know what to say when I deal with the passing of Stan Lee, my family and friends ask me "Hey, did you hear Stan Lee died?" And I could only respond with a nod and a faint, "Yeah." Because I couldn't fully grasp it for a long time myself, like you, Scott. But, when I watched this video... All of those emotions I've kept contained spilled out, and now I'm on the verge of tears in my college's cafeteria... Heh, I bewilder myself sometimes... Anyways, I wanted to just say something real quick with my connection to The Man. I am a comic writer and artist (Sunday comics right now, with a small story in a free anthology book), but I have plans to be a full on comic book writer, because of Stan Lee. I grew up reading Spider-Man, and I know he hasn't written something Spider-Man for a long time, but the character has been my favorite, and he was a coping mechanism for when I had a really tough time in my life where I didn't know if I could even trust my own family. I'm getting real personal, but the point is, Stan Lee's creations changed me, on a massive level, and I was like you, Scott, where I wanted to meet this legend, even with all of his faults. I, sadly, could not, but I always joked with my friends that, with the amount of characters I've created myself (I'm talking superheroes and villains) I mind as well be the next Stan Lee. And I wanted to tell him that... I wanted to tell him he changed me so much that I began doing what he did, and I wanted to let him know that the next round of heroes was on the next generation of writers. Now... I can't. But this video made me smile, laugh, cry and so much more, because it brought that fire in my chest back out and be willing to get back in the comic saddle. Not just in honor of Stan Lee, but in honor of what he built, because sometimes... The world just needs one more Stan Lee. Thanks, Scott. I needed this... Now, if you don't mind, I'm gonna go cry my eyes out as I write the next story with Stan Lee's spirit in my heart and soul. See ya.

My father and I watched this together and we both welled up when you began describing how much you wanted to meet Stan Lee and we are so incredibly happy that you did. Reasons why manga is better than comics: -All characters from the Manga industry are owned by the author who created them. While the characters in the comic industry are owned by the company. Also the reason why anime or manga is a lot better is because of the continuity of their stories. Meanwhile, the comic industry has a culture of rebooting their stories. - Manga tells story while comics in genaral tends to focus more on political propagandas
@brandonkrol
@brandonkrol 4 жыл бұрын
@@geraldbataga7510 First of all, no one was talking about whether or not Manga is better. Secondly, as a reader of both, there’s probably some political messages in manga as well that aren’t as obvious because it comes from a different culture. All meaningful art is political and the ones that try not to be are political by saying “they love the status quo.”

That was such a beautiful heartfelt video and I can think of a better way to remember Stan Lee. I grew up with the 90s marvel cartoons and they helped mould my perspective on life. They taught me to be inclusive of everyone despite their differences, in some cases they may be what gives them strength; to always do the right thing even if it is to your own detriment and to look out for the outcasts of which I always felt like one. I never had the exposure to the comics growing up but I keep meaning to read the classics of which I now own dozens of collected editions. Regardless of the medium though the message is still the same and is deeply woven into my identity. Thanks for such a moving video Scott

Thank you; thank you so very much for making this video. I'm one of the people in the comments who asked you to make this; even though I'm not a supporter. Life has never been easy for me; so being able to go to Comic Book Conventions and seeing Stan Lee was never something I was able to do. Couldn't afford the tickets. So I never got to mean the man, and now will never get this amazing opportunity ever again. I felt the pain of missing out seeing Stan; how you brushed it off like it was okay, when I knew it wasn't. I think everyone could tell what a big deal it was for you, but I felt it because I will never mean the man. I know you said you didn't want to make this but... you made me cry... Your words about meaning him; how Stan Lee touched your life, how his life will be felt forever. You made me cry, and for that; I thank you. Honestly speaking, about last year, my class was being given those motivational speeches, y'all know how they go, then they asked, "who is your role model?" People said their own like Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King heck even Drake, but when the teacher asked me, I legit says Stan the Man Lee and people wondered and asked who he was, (I live in Kenya so not many people knew him) I told them "you know the old guy who appears in Marvel movies?" And they shrugged saying no, some even began giggling in the corner and that pissed me off, so I said "The man who created spider Man, the X men, fantastic four and... My childhood!" And people started looking around asking themselves if it was true and sure even started clapping coz they finally recognized him and that made me happy, we even went to watch infinity war with a couple of those guys who got interested in comics coz of me and that... I got the opportunity to meet Stan Lee and get my photo taken with him a couple years back when I went to my very first Fan Expo (and my first big con) in Toronto. Sure I paid money for it but since I live in Canada and that was the last time Stan Lee was coming to Fan Expo, I wasn't going to get an other chance. That was a huge day for me. He shook my hand and asked me how my day was going. Me being an awkard bean barely manage to get out a "good" before the photo was taken. I had the biggest smile on my face in that picture, I don't remember being so happy to meet someone. After the photo was taken but before we were ushered out, I managed to thank him for everything he's done. Whenever I watched a Marvel movie afterwards, I could say "I actually met him."

I was at a comics convention in 1986. All the Marvel bigwigs were there, pushing a big invitation-only celebration of Marvel's 25th anniversary, a party with our creative heroes on Saturday night. My buddies and I had dressed up as X-Factor (minus Jean Grey, cuz we didn't know any girls back then). Our costumes got somebody's attention, and we wound up with invitations to the party. Not understanding that it was a black-tie affair, we showed up in our costumes. I was supposed to be Iceman, but the white makeup I was wearing had gotten all caked and nasty. Embarrassed, we wanted to leave. But we refused to miss an opportunity to meet legends like Chris Claremont and Stan Lee. The Marvel guys were seated at a big table, where we could get in line and briefly meet them. I approached Stan and held out my hand. He shook it, and the sticky white makeup rubbed off on him. He wiped it on his jacket, looked up at me, saw my terrible makeup job, and said, "Son, when did Tombstone join the X-Men?" This remains one of my most cherished memories. And, of course, I've told this story so often, it might even be true. Thanks for this video, Scott. Very well done. Excelsior! 'Nuff said.

I didn't get into comics until recently, but Stan Lee is a man who I look up to very much. As a man who did so much and created for his entire life, I can only hope that as someone who wants to be an animator and artist that I can accomplish a fraction of what Stan Lee and other great artists have done. Stan Lee is truly a icon and he will forever have an impact on the pop culture, our childhoods, and the art community at large.

I had the absolute honor of meeting him and getting a picture with him at a Convention photo op shortly before he passed. I was so nervous to meet one of my personal GODS that I could barely even look at him. I swooped in, they snapped the picture, the photographer yelled "NEXT!!" and I headed off to leave, but as I was gathering my stuff I heard "Thank You" in that absolutely ICONIC voice and I nearly passed out I was so surprised and so nervous I just bowed and say "Thank You" back and then went off to get the print of my picture. It was mere seconds, but it made an impact on me. I am now in the process of writing my OWN comics....or attempting to at least. It's HARD, but I want to bring these characters to the world just like he did.

this was a beautiful video. thank you Scott, for sharing it with us. I never got to meet Stan, even though I admired him. I am glad that you got that opportunity. I simply being honest, this video has made me a bit emotional, which just goes to show what of a great storyteller you are. I wish I could support you financially hope that this comment is enough though for the moment. And same as Stan, I consider you as a great friend and role model, despite there not being a two-way physical connection. Since I'm starting to ramble a bit I'll end this comment with : thanks mate

To think November has been a year since his death... I still think about him all the time, just like I still feel the pain of his absence whenever I read a comic book, look at my numerous figures and statues, and watch the films on the silver screen. Whenever I'm a part of any of those things I cry. I miss him. I'm only 15, wasn't at the time of his death, as he died only shortly before. This video means a lot Scott. If I could put a thousand thumbs ups I totally would. I just wish I could have met him. Asked him if he was proud of me.

I just have to say when my father left when I was about twelve I was immediately absorbed in comic books be it dc or marvel but I just have to say I was effected by Stan Lee’s death like many others but your video truly brought me to tears, for a single person to show me a lonely kid at the time lost and confused that u don’t need superpowers to be super you just need to be a super person. Thank you so much for your dedication to this subject and I never knew how much he truly effected my life through even things such as manners all the way to my morals in my daily life. Thank you so much for opening up to this community and thank you so much for reminding me that even 1 person in this case you Scott, can make people realize we can all be heroes in our daily lives. I truly felt your emotions through this video and I just want to thank you for that. EXCELSIOR my friend EXCELSIOR

Scott, I just felt the need to say this, as a long time fan of Marvel comics and Stan Lee's work the news of his death hit me pretty hard. Harder than most celebrity deaths do at least. But I hadn't been able to put those feelings into words and I mostly just tried to ignore the news and I even ignored the recent Marvel trailers that had come out, just so I wouldn't have to think about Stan Lee's passing. I know it might sound stupid, why should I care so much about some comic book writer. But this video helped me realize why I cared so much. Stan Lee wrote comic books that helped me a lot growing up, seeing spider-man struggling with teenage issues and the X-Men struggle with fitting in just connected with me and made me realize I could make it through whatever life threw at me. Stan Lee made stories that shaped me as an adult in so many ways and your video really helped me come to terms with the way I was feeling since his passing. So Scott thank you from the very bottom of my heart, thank you for making this video and sharing a little of your own love of the great Stan Lee. Keep up the awesome work and Excelsior!
