Ronnie James Dio claimed to be the person who introduce the horns gesture to heavy metal. He said that he got it from his grandmother, who in turn got it from the old country, where it was used to ward off the evil eye (demons, sickness). Is it because Steve Ditko liked Rock'n Roll?

I assumed it was a jew thing, like the 'live long and prosper' gesture

Ditko wasn’t Jewish, he was of Slavic descent, and the symbol associated with rock music (which has the thumb placed over the middle two fingers, not extended away from the palm) can be traced back to Ronnie James Dio taking over as the second lead singer of Black Sabbath. Dio wanted something to do with his hands during concerts that would fit the darker tone of the music they performed (compared to what he was singing as the lead singer of Rainbow) so he drew on something from his Italian (Sicilian?) heritage. In the folk magic traditions of the region, that gesture was thought to both ward off and control the Evil Eye.

This video brings back memories of my high school years... I tried to flirt with a girl by telling her how Spider-man's hand gesture changed... She was my crush all through high school and we never talked again after that nerd talk

It also goes to show how effortlessly flexible Spideys powers make him, it's not an incredibly easy hand gesture, whenever I try to do it my pinky always curves in a bit and I feel like Spider-Man accentuates it to a level that's even more difficult for a normal person to pull off.

So someone sharing there political views with characters they created is an atrocity, but someone who uses other peoples creations to share their political views (as long as it's left leaning) is okay. Hipocritical, not a fan if that little end part.

I guarantee he has no idea what objectivism actually is about, nor that the "selfishness" referred to in the philosophy is significantly different than what the average person thinks of. I mean, I've got my own disagreements with the philosophy myself, but it's by no means immoral or evil.
@vanxanax9335 жыл бұрын
@@ThatGastrodon I just don't get why comics need to be political statements now, sure there's been underlining themes in old comics, but not how it is today where the politics are first are for most, and always for the left. Ditko would be disappointed if he kept up on what they did to his character
