Mary was a woman who sees grace in the sight of the lord. And because she was clean, she was used as the passageway for the coming of Jesus Christ. That is why the birth of Jesus is different from any other birth in history. His birth is holy, because they was no coming together of a man and woman, but rather Mary was like a clean tunnel for Jesus to pass through. Jesus is older than Mary, he has been in existence even before Adam.

" The rest of that passage is about those of those peoples who didn't and don't listen. But those who do and do good deeds, Muslim or People of the Book, will be fine. Surah 2:62 is nearly identical. In Surah 22, it says Allah will judge them - including the Muslims - on the Last Day. Surah 5 has told us these people will fine if they do what it says. Surah 5, Al-Maaida, is the 3rd to last written Surah chronically. As far as I'm aware, according to Muslim theology, early surahs could be later abrogated by the ones after them so there would be no inconsistencies in the Quran. Verses earlier than Surah 5 saying the People of the Book are not going to Heaven (I can't think of any) would have not mattered since Allah decided at that point to accept the other People of the Book. They have to pay a tax, but they aren't going to hell. If this isn't true, then Muslims would have to accept 1, Allah doesn't know what he's talking about, or 2, the Quran isn't perfect.
