I never heard of Kai Cenat before he did Mafiathon 2 last month, idk how or why the clips started popping up in my shorts feed but I went down a double digit hour rabbit hole watching his streams. That content is not my style AT ALL, I don’t listen to mainstream rap or pop, I don’t do sports, I hate Hollywood in general, basically, I’m so far from his typical demographic I almost felt strange watching it 😂 but it was so much fun. Kai is such a likable dude. It’s like seeing your cousin or friend from high school doing super big things and just feeling proud of their success. I hope he continues to stay down to earth and keep it real.

I feel like this has become a thing because artists dont focus on making music anymore. They focus more on trends. It felt like before, there was a barrier to entry to becoming a musician, and if you stuck around and werent a 1 hit wonder, then you were crafting music that lasted a long time. Now, since it feels like everyone and their grandmother can just make and put out a song in the same day the barrier to entry is almost nonexistent. Even the concept of 1 hit wonders isnt still fully there anymore, because that person can still post. We just see their failure drag out for a longer period of time rather than fading into obscurity The issue with this is that these new crops of guys have to collab with streamers and do all this marketing because they are selling a trend, rather than a song. They are trying to make a moment, rather than something that will last forever. These guys know they are making flops and need to get that quick cash, and need streamers to get a bigger audience because their former audience knows better and dipped. So they need the new audience to try to invest instead. Hell. There are so many other artists, even in other genres, who rarely do any promos, dont do podcast, interviews, radios, or even stream collabs, and they selling platinum records on their music alone. All because they are actually making music, and people want to hear it vs these guys selling fads and trends that they pray goes viral.
