I just use water and a old rag. I don't care much because the car has rust in a very small section. Don't know how. Must have been a crack in the coat somewhere before I owned it. But the rest of the car is normal. And the car isn't new. Its from 2007 with almost 200k miles. I keep up on regular maintenance. In high school, we had "organized" a car wash for a fundraiser. The class made a list, and I was tasked to buy soap. I knew better than to get dishwashing soap. The day came and I came in feeling ready, two other people brought car soap and someone else brought dishwashing soap. They thought they had to get that, and no one remembered who needed to get buckets, towels, or a darn hose. Somebody did not bring sponges, and she called her mom to buy some who ended up buying dish sponges. That scratched the paint off the hood of a teacher's car. She ended up demanding that we pay for the damaged paint on her car hood with the money raised. Waste of time and money. How could no one have followed the list or even managed to look up how to wash a car on Google?! What a disaster! Car wash gear was made for a reason! Be aware of what you are doing.

No car soap removes oil, grease or rub marks. Palmolive dish soap works best compared to all car soaps. I’ve proved this many times to people. And Palmolive soap doesn’t damage or fade paint. Palmolive soap is safe on your hands, so it doesn’t have toxic chemicals like car soap. Car soaps fade your paint.

Yes, you can use a sponge. Make sure its the right type of foam in your sponge. Wool mitts are dangerous, they hold on to debris and will scratch your car. In reality you're most likely to scratch your car while drying it. Use a soft, absorbent towel along with a quick detailer or drying aid.

I use the car wash liquid Scotty showed, but I use microfiber mitts. I use several of them to avoid washing different sections of the car with a dirty mitt. I NEVER use a commercial car wash.

My 2014 mustang was 9 years old when I sold it a couple months ago. I used Meguires Wash and Wax like Scotty had in the video every time I washed it and the paint was still in really good condition. Never use auto car washes.

Use a microfiber mitt instead, I’m not too sure if wool mitts may mess up the paint

I use one of those microfiber wrapped sponges. Works well. And I have some of those mitts too. Some times they even have those microfiber mitts at Dollar store type places 👍
