My six year old daughter just discovered this game on Nintendo Switch Online, and she’s been hooked the last few days! This is a game simple enough for little kids to enjoy, but still fun for me as an adult too lol 😆

Same here, I've been playing this on switch with my 8 year son, brings back a lot of memories. I never beat it as a kid but we did with saving. Now trying to beat it in one run like I couldn't as a kid

It was an interesting time for Gameboy because the quality of gameplay and sprite work felt very SNES-like. Super Mario Land 2 felt more like Super Mario World. Link's Awakening felt a lot like Link to the Past.

I like the second better, but I agree they should bring over the first one. It's a great game and I feel like the first one is the forgotten game. It deserves so much more.

Highly doubt. They don't remake the 2D Mario's as it's a basic concept platform style game. They'd just do a new game ans have this one available. There's not much to these types of games to even be worth of a remake. You could say we got our "remakes with Mario Maker, just we need yo make it ourselves. Mario RPG got one cause it's just that - an RPG.

Great game man. Those first couple of Mario Land games on OG Game Boy very nostalgic in a different way than the other mainline Mario games on the main consoles.

Theres a story in the manual actually: "While I was away crusading against the mystery alien Tatanga in SarasaLand, an evil creep took over my castle and put the people of Mario Land under his control with a magic spell. This intruder goes by the name of Wario. He has been jealous of my popularity ever since we were boys, and has tried to steal my castle many times. It seems he has succeeded this time. Wario has scattered the 6 Golden Coins from my castle all over Mario Land. These Golden Coins are guarded by those under Wario's spell. Without these coins. we can't get into the castle to deal with Wario. We must collect the 6 coins, attack Wario in the castle, and save everybody!" Both Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2 were produced by Miyamoto's mentor: Gunpei Yokoi, who also invented the Gameboy

My first Game Boy game was Pokemon Red. My second was 6 Golden Coins, though. Loved it! I actually never finished it and never knew the villain was Wario until this video lol. Maybe it's a two-hour game for our resident Nintendo KZbinr, but this game kicked my ass back then 🤣

I bought and finished this game on the OG Game Boy, arguably the best in class of the system. I'm glad your talking about retro games in this format RGT, keep up the good work. This keeps games alive and well with new and old generations.

I have this game since when I was 5 years old. I still have it, even the cartridge looks a little bit worn, but still works. The only thing I have different is the Gameboy, which is the advance version. Sometimes, I haven't played the game a couple of years, and when I play it again, I still remember how to clear it. Obviously, I'm not Mr perfect playing the game without losing a life, but is entertaining.

I remember when this came out and found out the villain was Wario my immediate reaction was: “Really Nintendo, is that the best you can come up with for another Mario villain”. I truly thought they didn’t do their best work with this idea. However when I got the game I loved it and it’s most likely my favorite GB platformer of all time.

I actually really liked the Bad Mario antithesis straight away. And I think Nintendo did make Wario look fairly unique, not just a carbon copy bad Mario. He was quite large had different face structure to Mario. The only character I rolled my eyes at was the Waluigi design that came later. It was too cliche and contrived to have a bad Luigi double.

I would always take my gameboy and super Mario Land and the 6 Golden Coins when i went on road trips to visit my aunt and uncle that lived 5 hours away. That game always made my road trips way more fun and would always seem to make my long road trips go fast!

This game was so good! I loved the innovation to have a Mario game on Gameboy, while dodging past the colour- identified powers with new symbols. The feather instead of a coloured suit was brilliant.

I got this game when it came out and I loved it. My saved games are still there too. I didn’t have a Super Nintendo at the time, but I did have the gameboy. It’s arguably one of the very best games for the original gameboy.

One of things I love about the Mario Land games is that they actually offered up different villains to the main mario games. We were introduced to Wario and that alien from outer space. I'm kind of sick of constantly fighting Bowser (and Dr Eggman from Sonic) at this stage.

I literally finished this game yesterday for the first time, I only had the first mario game on gb as a child. It is one of the most creative and fun mario games ever made , and was a blast to play even with no nostalgia for the game

I loved SML, but when SML2 came out it pretty much rendered it unplayable. SML is a very good platformer but feels kinda like a generic platformer dressed up as a Mario game. SML2 feels like a true Mario game.

I've been really enjoying the Gameboy Mario games on the RS35XX. Revisiting them from when I had my gameboy over a decade ago. Super Mario Land felt like it was just rushed out to "have a Mario game on the Gameboy." Super Mario Land 2 was a HUGE leap. It's so expansive it feels like its Super Mario World-level great. I'm really enjoying playing these games again.

Totally a story for this game. Wario took over Mario’s Castle and locked access behind the coins. Also Wario set up bad guys for each area to stop Mario from getting the coins!

I used to have this! Years ago my cousins from Salt Lake City would come and stay the summer at my grandparents and she had a original game boy. She got me into Tetris and Mario land 2 6 golden coins. Years later she gave it to me. I beat it when I was 13 maybe and loved it

Thanks for this review. Picked up this game some time back since it was such a good deal for a used gameboy game at the local shop. Now that everything is going streaming, which is tough on rural USA, I’ve started to invest in used games so my kids can enjoy what I did as a kid. My oldest is now reading pretty well so I figured he can play my old gameboy color.

RGT, you should play the Super Mario Land 2 DX color rom hack. It takes everything you love about the game and adds real color, not the simulated color you saw with the Super Nintendo Gameboy player. You’ll never want to go back to the original version again.

Funny how hardware limitation can taint your memories of a game. I was playing Mario World from the day it released and I have nothing but positive memories, oppositely I didn't finish Mario Land 2 until many years later and just hearing the music gives me PTSD, the only explanation I have for the different impression between the two games is the limited graphics of the Gameboy.
