How Sustainable Hunting Helps a Community - An Epic Hunt for Seals in Finland

The epic adventure in Finland in pursuit of a seal was a fascinating hunting experience I was fortunate to be apart of. We hunted a series of islands off the mainland next to a fishing cannery, the main source of revenue for the local community. Multiple seals where coming into the large nets that is home to thousands of fish and causing significant damage and financial loss to the cannery. The hunt involved pursuing these very intelligent animals into the small islands in the open waters where they would bed for the day, offering a very exciting and dangerous expedition. With a crack team which included our outfitter Pontus and the boat captain, we were excited about the chances of success. The weather played a critical role especially the wind, in the choppy open waters of the archipelago. As we covered the vast area, we located the group of seals that were raiding the cannery. With no time to loose, a very tricky and dangerous exit from the boat to a small rock formation in the open waters was needed to get a shot. As i set up, the smart seals went into the water. After quickly Locating the biggest bull, I took careful aim and executed a precise shot that immediately finished him. That’s when the real work began. The boat rushed to where the seal went down. With less than 30 secs to retrieve the seal, Pontus my outfitter did a masterful job with some incredible navigation from the boat captain to secure our hard earned harvest . The recovery gave us the opportunity to put the meat to good use. Yet again, we were able to use sustainable hunting to deal with a problem animal to help the cannery and provide much needed game meat to the local community.
The future of wild animals across the globe is dependent on our ability to sustain their constantly shrinking habitat. So the question remains. How does this help sustain and preserve the wildlands? It’s very simple, the local communities depend on the revenue generated from sportsmen. They also greatly benefit from the meat harvested during the safaris that take place on their land. Because of this, the game is protected and the habitat preserved.
In this video, we highlight how sustainable hunting makes a positive impact on the game, the wild lands, and local communities. Amazing people, unforgettable views, and an epic journey lie ahead.

Awesome I'm always ready for some seal hunting , my grandfather used to paddle 18 miles out in a traditional cedar dugout canoe in the 1930s , 40s and harvest hair Seals with harpoons , 3 man teams , pacific northwest of west coast of Washington state , it was very lucrative industry , God Bless all seal hunters

@@AHuntersQuest i am thinking of buying a firearms. I can only chose between a bolt action rifle or shotgun Which one should i go for 1 more questions Old big game hunting rifle ( 375, win 458, savage model 99) are available but finding their ammo is difficult in India Should i go for normal 3006 rifle

@@AHuntersQuest ammo for those are extremely rare I seen 600 nitro Express on wall When i asked the guy he said if you want go ahead buy but you will not ammo for it Situation is pretty bad in India Priceless firearms are catching dust

Indeed it was and we were hunting the ones coming into the cannery which made for a very challenging hunt. Once they have been shot at, how to avoid people.

Another outstanding hunting adventure captured with amazing videography. Food is relative to where you are in this vast world. Your hunt provided many with the opportunity to feast and enjoy their traditional meals. This is only the 2nd modern video I have seen documenting the fair chase hunting of seals. Well done indeed. Thank you my friend for you kind comment. It was a amazing experience. The rifle I use is a 300 jarrett and it’s what in use in all my hunts unless it’s dangerous game. I have 375 also made by Jarrett. Apologies for the late response.

The locals love the seal meat and that’s why we worked hard to make the recovery. Nothing wasted.

That seal has teeth just like a Leppard and are very dangerous unfortunately the seal population has grown to the point were they are dying off because of out of control population mainly the Young ones are dying no disrespect for God's awesome creatures but they are the cyotes of the seas and conservation is the answer.

Some good points don. They need to be managed like all the predator animals. They do some serious damage on the fishing ponds of the cannery. The problem is always they kill way more than they eat.
