Does a sway bar have a positive or negative effect when facing one wheel bumps? I understand if both wheels hit the same bump it has little to no effect. But if only one wheel hits the bump, it pulls the body down on the other side too instead of letting the two sides stay independent.

The difference is negligible. You would likely not notice a difference at all between sway bar and no sway bar. The sway bar can flex. It doesn’t completely lock the two control arms of the car together

You will definitely notice if your sway bar is disconnected, thats why im here. Braking the whole car rolls and makes noises while driving.

@@Nelson4207 I’m just talking about during bumps and stuff. If your sway bar was broken, sure you’d hear it clacking around but otherwise it would be hard to notice until you make a turn

I think that if only one wheel hits the bump, there isn't actually a force vector for the other wheel. In the case of body roll, the drooping side (side with the force vector pointing up) is experiencing that force because the weight is moving away from it which is causing the weight deficient part of the body to be bent up. It's like a lever; if you have a bunch of weight on the one side, the other side wants to rise a little bit. That force pulling up on the wheel is causing the sway bar to exert a force back against the wheel to move it further down, and then the weight surplus side is feeling the opposite effect from the sway bar (viz., its being pulled back up). When you just hit a road bump, there is no weight deficient side, so the sway bar doesn't respond to that side. It'll only pull the falling tire back up as it has it's down vector, but it won't pull the unaffected tire into the ground because it's not counteracting anything at all on that side.

I was wondering about changing the bar and links with some adjustables. I really like stiff handling. My passengers well sucks to be those guys

torsion diagram is backwards. outside/inside wheel need to flip. outside wheel/control arm/sway bar link experiences upward motion.

Why don’t the factory make the stiffer sway-bars? What is the negative side of the harder sway-bar?
@arthurgross6269Ай бұрын
A stiffer bar makes it so that your car braking traction feels more "sudden". You instinctively feel the car rolling when you make a turn, so having some roll gives you more time to react. Just safer to have the average driver not have bars that are too stiff.
