In today's edition of Football Fanatic, I discuss how Switzerland was mere minutes from securing a masterclass victory against the hosts. Including an impressive pressing structure, quick transitions, and more!

Good analysis! I hope that the German team learned something from the game and are now prepared. In that sense it would be very useful to have played against Switzerland in the group stage. What would be the best solutions and counters against such pressing?

Perhaps the best solution would be to play the ball in behind the Swiss or have a striker who can win their aerial duels and bring others into the game higher up the field. Also I don’t think Andrich is the safest person on the ball, I would much prefer Emre Can

If Bellingham's PR has anything to say about it, probably not.

I think Germany was in control 90% of the game and it never felt like Switzerland could get a win also they almost did :D They barely had any shot at target and were mostly just pressing the german defense, but the german defense always found a way to outplay them with even short passes. Their advantage was that they scored suddenly with their first real chance and then they had a good pressing structure especially on Kroos which kinda slowed down the german game. Also switzerland was playing "anti-football" when they were in lead and basically just put everyone behind the ball for long times and played for the clock already in the 50s minute. I dont blame them for doing it, it was clever. Overall I think Germany could have won 4:1 and it would have been a shocker if switzerland would have won the game.

I mean in the chances created aspect, Switzerland didn’t have many SHOTS. But Germany didn’t have many clear cut chances either. But Switzerland had many half chances that I believe perhaps with better players they could have turned half chances into clear cut ones.

@@richardlefaive1944They weren’t robbed by the letter of the law but the obsession with getting these calls “perfect” is so frustrating. Someone being a toe offside doesn’t give you an advantage
