@@Dr.Frankensteen Agreed, but he really should start that saga with the original Scott Stevens signing. Stevens costing them 5 first round picks, then being lost for Shanahan; Shanahan sleeping with the Captain's wife resulting in him getting traded for Pronger, the lockout resulting in the owners demanding Blues GM not even give Pronger a qualifying offer to keep payroll low until they could sell, GM convincing them to let him QO & trade Pronger instead, turning Pronger into Brewer, Brewer into a third round pick... Blues turned 5 first round picks into 1 third round pick, with a hell of a lot of heartbreak along the way... then the third round pick wins them the Cup. Look at the statistics when O'Reilly was given proper ice time in top6. Also, O'Reilly is much better defensively. Still, at that time you will have to trade Duchene or Stastny and that will not go well in Colorado. O'Reilly is 865games 222g 398a 619pts +9, (plus all the awards) Where Duchene is 834 games 253g 354a 607 -104.

It’s possible for more than one team to win a trade. Blues definitely won. One Stanley Cup for a franchise that had never won in 50+ years is worth any trade. As a Blues fan I say that with certainty. I said (before they won) that IF they got a Cup they could go winless for five straight years and that’s ok. I got what I wanted (and won a $40 bet in Vegas that paid $1600) so yeah I’m good. Thompson could still make Buffalo a winner, and given your comments about how O’Reilly lost his love of the game I would love to see someone thrive in Buffalo. Also since you said how the trade is still evolving I’d love to hear when this one is updated (when Buffalo is relevant). Hope you’re enjoying O’Reilly. I miss him in STL, and I’m watching more Leafs streams with you because of (your passion) and the desire to see STL’s first Conn Smythe winner succeed. Enjoy the ride. However far it takes Toronto. I am signing “thank you” as I post this. Thank you for your passion, your love of the game, and everything you do to promote the greatest game on Earth.

i'd love to see a trade tree on the MIN-WSH 1989 trade of Gartner and Murphy for Ciccarelli and Rouse. 3 future hall of famers, (Rouse no slouch either), 18 teams involved, lasted until 2007 (arguably 2010), both teams got lots of great pieces out of it over the years.

Tage Thompson nearly scored 40 goals this year on a poorly-performing team. Ryan O'Reilly's career best is 28. (Thompson also scored more goals in a season than Jack Eichel. But that's not really pertinent. Just wanted to point it out.) Only saying that this trade still has the possibility of paying off for both sides. Just took a little longer for the Sabres to see the ROI.

Ryan O'Reilly is actually a branch on a still going after forty years trade tree for the Sabres starting with the Rick Martin trade. If you haven't done that one yet, you should look into it. It would be a two hour long video with several Hall of Famers included

The trade tree of the AJ Greer trade actually extends a bit further: AJ Greer was included in the trade for Kyle Palmieri at last year's trade deadline to the Devils.

This turns out to be an almost perfect win-win. No Blues fans would trade their cup and the Sabres are perfectly happy today with Thompson. A rare win-win

I was hoping very much for Steve to mention that Roy plays for HKM Zvolen in the slovak league since that is my team :,(
