How the 36 States of Nigeria were Created (All the States were Created by the Military)

Nigeria has 36 States at the time of the making of this video. There is also the Federal Capital Territory which has the status of a full fledged State. This video narrates the history of how these States were created. Only the military were able to create States. No civilian administration has been able to create States till date. Great work but why not balance the conversation? So the 1st Coup which was earlier has a leader (silence on mentioning that the essence was to get Awolowo out of prison and into the seat of power as the president), but when the counter coup comes up @3:06 No one mentions the perpetuators that murdered 300 soldiers of southern origin. Where is the honesty?

We don't need more states, in fact some of them needs to be merged as they are self sufficient. Always reliant on the federal government for survival rather than build wealth.

States were first created on 27th May 1967 and not 5th May sir... The states were created in order to separate Igbos from the minorities in the east, because tensions were building up to Biafra

For a country the size of Nigeria, around 10-12 states should be optimal. The current system makes the states too weak to do anything useful financially and replicating the entire administration takes away a significant amount of money.

I came here to know why the state creations were made. This only talked about time and who. Based on that, nice content. But then, someone point me to where I can get the reasons why the states were created each time. What were the agitations and conflicts?

Various reasons: Sustained agitation by the minorities, compensation (like in the case of Bayelsa created by Abacha in appreciation of its contribution to Nigeria, disposition of the military leader, and, in Gowon's case the South Eastern State was divided into two to weaken Ojukwu's influence in the region). So, several reasons influenced the creation of States in Nigeria.

Gowon created the states MAY 27 1967, your video says MAY 5
