I play in a session with a barbarian. He plays the part to the extreme, including all of the barbarian stereotypes. The odd part is that his character, is best friends with mine, a lawful good, uppity, and very aristocratic paladin.

Yup, sounds about right. My Half-Orc Barbarian's Paladin friend is a chaotic moron at times, though: nearly electrocuted himself to death. His player would've had to roll a new character if mine hadn't pulled him away from that magic rune. Yup, you heard that right: that Paladin was dumber then the party's Barbarian. The character was purposely played like that, though: it was a good comic relief in a Curse of Strahd campaign.

I'm an old fart that played AD&D in the 80s . The Barbarian class was introduced in the book Unearthed Arcana , and the Berserker was introduced about the same time in Dragon magazine . The Barbarian class was a seperate class from the Fighter subclasses . They had a D12 hit die per level and a boat load of non weapon proficiencies , ensuring that they were self sufficent without magic . The Barbarian class had a fighting style that depended upon a form of native martial arts rather than technological armor . In contrast , the Berserker was a warrior that focused all their energy upon battling their enemies in a naked rage . They had few , if any , survival kills , and acted as champions of their clan .

Ah, my favorite class. All of them are teddy bears. Yevelda the half-orc with a noble background had a decent intelligence and was the moral backbone of the party. Also a dragon chess whiz. I actually play a Barbarian. Honestly, it’s nice to have double or even triple the max HP of EVERYONE ELSE at 3rd level. While everyone has 18 HP, I have 41. He’s a Dwarven Berserker Barbarian that lets his emotions run. Currently, he wears a bear cloak and absolutely intimidates the heck of kobolds. He is also kinda the bait for the party when they all want to sneak. At level 1, he wiped out 5 Gnolls (two of which being an Alpha and a Beta) by himself!
