What I love the most about Pattinson's performance is how effectively he uses silence, facial expressions and body language. I've been a batman fan since I was a kid and watching the animated series I remember countless times where the character would simply look at someone and his expression or lack of dialog is all that was needed to convey what he was feeling. And I'm not only talking about scenes where he is looking at an enemy with rage in his eyes. I'm taking about the moments where he is interacting with an ally in costume like nightwing or gordon. Or the times when someone tries to converse with him and he just ignores them because he considers them a nusance. The opening of the film where he is led into the crime scene by Gordon and then begins Investigating the murder is a perfect example. He says very little during that entire sequence. Even when the cop stops him from coming In initially he doesn't say anything, and he doesnt really engage with commisoner savage. He just continues investigating the crime scene and casually drops the answer to the riddlers riddle. Batman has always been character I have viewed as somewhat withdrawn and kind of stuck in his head. I don't think the other films have quite captured this aspect of the character to the same degree that this one did. Nothing against the other Batman performers but they aren't really allowed to "emote" in costume outside of anger (or in the case if the shumacher films saying cheesy one liners). when the actors were allowed to emote sometimes the nature of their costume made it look really weird. Look at how some of the faces that Keaton's and Bales made while playing batman in their respective films have become memes. Additionally a lot of the scripts for the prior films focus on trying to make batman look and sound intimidating in costume so as a result they kind of default to making him sound angry. I'm very glad that reeves and Pattinson took a different approach. I think they nailed it.
@criticalrants2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. You get such a good window into his psyche just watching him interact with the crime scene, and the costume absolutely allows for Pattinson's performance to be highlighted properly. I love how much information you get about Batman's character just from watching him move around a room silently.

YES. Batman should be the definition of “straight to the point”, in every way. It’s not the anger in his eyes that should be scary. It’s the sheer, cold, implacable, machine-like pragmatism. The fact that, even though you can see a human mouth, you’re not really sure if there’s a human being beneath that cowl.
@shahxad65332 жыл бұрын

@kenxyooj26842 жыл бұрын
My personal opinion. I know it’s only one movie so far, but I actually like Pattinson’s performance as Batman more than any other live-action interpretation so far. He got to show actual emotions other than being angry, especially showing a side of vulnerability. Even as Bruce. It’s all in the eyes, and Pattinson did a fantastic job. Sure. His Bruce isn’t the playboy Bruce yet. I know people were complaining about that or were wanting that. But showing this side of him (especially for a younger Bruce) is a smart choice imo because it shows how human he is. A millionaire who lost his parents at a young age and gets socially awkward since he’s a reclusive guy? I buy that. THEN we get to see the progression of his playboy persona as he wants to change for the better. Also, his Batman voice has a mixture of Keaton and Bale’s, but not too overdone either. So I like that. That’s one thing I hope stays consistent throughout Reeves’ Batman sequels.

Robert Pattinson was the perfect choice. After watching him perform in The Lighthouse I knew he would be a good cast if only, please, the writers don't fuck this up. So thankful they didn't, but gave him something to work with. Great performance once again (check The Lighthouse if you haven't already, him and Willem Dafoe rock this!), and a great movie on the early days of The Batman.

The Batman movie was masterfully done. I am glad I finally got to see it and watch a well made action thriller. The character study of Bruce Wayne was engrossing. I did find some of the pacing distracting, and it was really filmed DARK... to the point of not being able to see what was going on. But aside from those nitpicks the film was staggering. I watched it over and over. I really appreciate most of the takes on Batman that have been made over the past decades. However, I think this film really did capture something deeper. The PDD of Bruce Wayne. And it really does explore it well. Great film.

I have this idea to introduce a young version of Superman, Superboy if you will, in this Matt Reeves story. Its only a cameo or a hint or just an idea with regards to this particular Batman movie. In the ending at the stretcher scene, Batman narrates that he has to become something more than vengeance, he has to become hope and looks up to the helicopter taking the injured. What if when Batman looks up, and there in he orange sky, we see a caped man hovering above Gotham city? Just a hint of a young Superman/Superboy existing in this universe of Batman. We need hope. We need Superman. It can be explained that he came to help with the rescue of floods and help with mapping of the area from above. Just co-ordinating with the National Guard.
