I always thought there was a similar situation with Red Grange , and I read an article about this rivalry some years ago I was always under the impression it started when one of the lineman of whichever team struck a lineman of the opposition and broke his nose and thats when the rivalry started . I'm also thinking whoever had received the broken nose returned the favor the following year .

I've heard that Halas had an ulterior motive for getting the Packers out of the league. He wanted a player from Notre dame, "Hunk" Anderson, and in the days before the draft, college graduate players could sign with any team they wanted. Halas was convinced that Anderson would sign with the Packers since he and Curly Lambeau were collegiate teammates in 1918, and Anderson was from the UP of Michigan, closer to Green Bay than Chicago, so he saw taking the Packers out of the league was also going to open him to signing "Hunk" Anderson, which he did.

Yeah during my research I found a lot of conflicting information about what really happened. The Packers official team historian believes a lot the stuff about Halas purposely trying to get the Packers out of the league is all myth and blown out of proportion. Hilarious how in the early stages of the League you could get penalized for bringing in amateurs, whereas today it's colleges that are penalized for players "professionalizing" themselves by hiring agents, selling merch, etc. More importantly, though, It's too bad the NFL does not have rivalries that make the entire football world sit up and take notice the way European soccer (i.e., World Football) does. When Barcelona play Real Madrid, for example, literally BILLIONS of people the world over watch and/or pay attention to the result--one which will be relived and retold for decades to come. When their equivalent of the Super Bowl is contested between a pair of the very oldest clubs it becomes a thing of legend forever. Meanwhile, only Central Division partisans really care about the Bears/Packers rivalry anymore, we don't all relive the 1958 championship game anytime the Giants meet the Colts, or--relatively more recently--the Jets and Raiders renew THEIR 60+ year-old rivalry. They don't even SHOW the movie "Heidi" on TV anymore. And while I appreciate the game well enough, I'm sorry it's so completely a product of slick marketing that the game's history is now all but relegated to such things as yTube channels and the archives of history. Archives only us zanies care very much about. Great vid, btw.

Pro Bear fan but tolerant of the Packers. Even so, the stain of Charles Martin wearing a hit list towel hanging from his waist listing the numbers of the Bear players he intended to injure during a certain game still makes me sick. Later in that game a full 2 to 3 seconds after Bears QB Jim McMahon threw a pass down field this same idiot Charles Martin picks up McMahon in a bear hug and body slams him to the turf. After.the resultant shoulder injury caused by this incident McMahon was never the same and his career slowly faded. These Packer teams of the 1980s and their openly dirty players, Charles Martin and Chuck Cecil in particular, are the reason the I’ll never route for the Packers in any game, which sucks because I’ve loved certain Packer players over the years like Antonio Freeman, Darren Sharper, Reggie White, and Aaron Rogers. Oh well..

Another pronunciation issue is when pronouncing the Wisconsin city of "Racine". The actual way to say it (from a local) is not Ruh-cine, it is said Ray-cine.
