In this All Sports History video we'll look back at Super Bowl 1, and the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers (AFL vs NFL). And answer the question of why is it called the Super Bowl?
Here's what this "Super Bowl 1 History" video covers:
On January 15th, 1967, the Packers and Chiefs went head to head in the first ever match up between two rival football leagues, the AFL and NFL (before the AFL and NFL merger). In today’s video we’ll take a look back at how the championship game came together (The first world championship game AFL vs NFL as it was known), and what would eventually become known as the first Super Bowl.
We'll also look back at some interesting aspects of the first Super Bowl, like how the name "Super Bowl" was coined as well as how the game was originally conceived. After checking out some Super Bowl 1 highlights (spoiler alert: It's not called the Vince Lombardi trophy for nothing), we'll then look at how the TV tapes that were used to simulcast on two networks, CBS and NBC were erased soon after the game and were lost forever. It became known as "Super Bowl 1 The Lost Game". Finally we'll look at how the in-game entertainment, like how the 1967 Super Bowl halftime show differed from today's Super Bowls, which featured college marching bands and guys in jetpacks, I mean Super Bowl Jetpacks!!!
What did you guys think about Super Bowl 1, and the TV networks erasing the tapes? Would you pay $10,000 to go to the Super Bowl today? Let me know in the comments!

Back in the 1960s, nobody thought about rebroadcast rights. There was no ESPN, no Classic Sports. Many of the surviving broadcasts of that era were actually kinescopes made by the Canadian broadcasters with filmed copies being sent to remote outposts. Videotape was not aired until 1963 and was still being used sparingly by 1967. One fun fact is that the second half kickoff was replayed because NBC had not come back from commercial. Officials blew the play dead before the ball was caught and then waited for NBC to say they had joined the telecast. I follow the history of Houston Sports teams and when the Colt .45s made their big league debut in 1962, there no was tv, only radio. After the first radio broadcast, according to Gene Elston their play-by-play voice, the reel-to-reel broadcast tapes were handed to a production assistant and never seen again. The AFL Oilers (1960) and NBA Rockets also have no survived broadcasts of their first games. Seems unthinkable today.
