Having read many viewer comments on many posts on this channel, I think there's a disconnect on the understanding of some of the comments made by various Beatle members, especially John & Paul. Their comments are nearly always tinged with an underlying dry, self-deprecating, piss-taking British humour which may be missed by some if not brought up with this. As a result, comments from them, are often perceived as attacks or criticism of other band members, when this is not the case. Of course the "therapized" will say that it's "passive aggressive" which if course is my point: they don't get it.

Your explanation of who played piano is all contradictory. It's listed as Lennon twice, then later you claim that Lennon didn't even play anything except tambourine & that McCartney played piano in the chorus section as an overdub.. It's totally confusing. WHO played PIANO? To my way of thinking, Lennon played piano during the basic take. The tambourine & chorus piano may have been added later.

The only Beatle album that I preferred the American version is Rubber Soul. The American version has a certain color and a particular atmosphere. The British version of Rubber Soul has a few songs like Drive My Car that just don't fit and a few songs on the American version are on the British version of another album.

​@@jaybee9269 Yeah, I think some North Americans can't let go of the idea that Rubber Soul as an acoustic folk-rock album, kicking off with "I've Just Seen a Face" (which was supposed to be on the previous Help album). But the Beatles themselves intended it to be "60s soul" album. That's why the word "soul" is in the title.

No, the bass part caused confusion; some authors cited George Harrison as playing the bass when he actually played the guitar. Paul played bass on this one.

John and George couldn’t work with him. Do yourself a fVor don’t refer to shears as Paul. If you must then refer to Paul pre 66 as James Paul.

The “you can do something in between” bit is one of the weirdest, and coolest bits of dissonant harmony the Beatles ever did. It’s got this wonderful “completely wrong, but also oh-so-right” quality, that no comparable moment in a Beatles song quite matches. Those harmonies make no sense, and shouldn’t work, but do.

The chord is formed by that A, in concert with the C, F and G that the three singers are singing. Dissonance is to some degree subjective, but most people would agree that a chord with two consecutive major seconds in it has a relatively high degree of dissonance, especially in the context of a pop song. And that is before you consider what I would argue is an implied minor second dissonance between the absent but implied C# of the A major triad that context conditions us to expect at that point in the song, and the C natural that Lennon actually sings, which in that context operates as a minor-against-major blue note over an implied dominant 7 chord. That unmistakable “crunch” that makes the chord so cool IS dissonance.
