I remember when they signed Kyrie and traded away D'lo, I was disappointed because I wanted to see how that previous core would work out instead of going all in Kyrie and KD. They were so much fun. The Nets went from an upcoming young fun team to a team that was controlled by player politics and egos. KD and Kyrie singled out players and the coach that originally made the Nets a playoff team to begin with and wanted what they desired. Even when they got what they wanted, it was never enough. Also, in general, I think the Nets also encapsulate why working with your friends is often a really poor idea. It takes an incredible level of professionalism to balance a high pressure work environment with personal friendships. That's made all the worst by the fact that Kyrie is one of the least professional players in the NBA. His podcast remarks solidify that. Basically, what it boils down to is that Kyrie and KD didn't like Kenny because Kenny actually held them accountable and held them to a standard. Heaven forbid that you're held to a standard at work! You can't build a championship roster around a second option with the ego of a superstar and the reliability of a benchwarmer. Also, I haven't given up on Simmons yet. He had the same back surgery as MPJ and he said that he didn't feel like his old self until 18 months after. I think some of his struggles look more like a guy who isn't healthy rather than a guy who for has inexplicably changed into a new player. He was rushed back to make the new "Big 3" happen and a lot of people forget that Ben had a stretch of nice games before he got hurt again.

I will say this to the end of time the nets got too greedy and listened to their stars WAY TOO much, rather than just built around KD and Kyrie with a deeper bench they listened to KD and traded all their depth for Harden, listening to KD and Kyrie to fire Atkinson for Nash wasn’t a good move either. KD and Kyrie around a great supporting cast and bench and great coaching would’ve yielded at least 1 championship

Looking back, I didn’t fully appreciate James being there as a Net as I thought he was being lazy coming into the 21-22 season. Turns out the Nets put him on a position to look crazy or lazy for… whatever reason… and it was fucked up how they treated him. If the nets would have let him come into the season fully healthy and I’m shape then things could be different and also for Kyrie…. Yea man… not much to say about him

Excellent video. As a C's fan who was crazy excited for the Kyrie trade to Boston, it was cathartic watching a video about how most of the issues were directly his fucking fault. Bro played like ass for us in the playoffs and then has the gall to step on the logo like he didn't shit the bed himself. The 4-0 sweep was a icing on the cake of Kyrie's comeuppance. Ps. James Harden can be a bit of diva but I 100% agree with his frustrations on Brooklyn, specifically the vaccine/Kyrie issue. Also the fact that they only played 16 games in like 2.5 seasons is wild asf

I honestly believe that Kyrie's decision to not get a shot was the most detrimental factor as to why the Nets super team failed, that and the vast amount of injuries that haunted them.
@joshuaremo922 Жыл бұрын
If Kyrie wasn’t such a selfish dick about getting the vaccine that teams stays together. James Harden sees that team is taking itself seriously signs an extension and doesn’t request a trade from clown town. They keep the big 3 and perhaps have more cracks at getting a title. Instead Kyrie sabatoges the team, Harden leaves in disgust and ring chases with Embiid, KD fucks off after seeing the shell of Ben Simmons, and Kyrie fucks off to go ruin the Mavs.

imo it was doomed from the start. Nash was a first time HC and wasn’t good enough to coach a regular team let alone a superteam. KD being injury prone combined with Kyrie being Kyrie they were never going to be on the court long enough to have chemistry with the rest of the team for a deep playoff run

For the most part these hastily assembled “super teams” don’t work. It worked for the Heat although it can be argued they should have won more than 2 titles. Aside from that, the teams with the most success over the last 10 years were teams mostly built through the draft.

Harden was playing Chess. His entire plan was to get to Philly. He knew Houston wasn't going to trade him to Philly though so there had to be a "pit stop team".. that's where the Nets come in. Harden was never going to stay. And who can blame him?.. Kyrie is the most unreliable teammate anyone could ever have. I wouldn't want to rely on Kyrie to split a bill at a fast food restaurant, let alone rely on him as a teammate in a professional game.

I knew the minute that KD and Kyrie were signed, the Nets "culture" was toast. They come in, and instead of melding their talents into an already ascending young team, they start big-timing the coach. Then you get Harden. You end up with three of the greatest offensive talents in basketball history and not a real leader in the bunch.

@bradhorowitz2765 Жыл бұрын
What I don’t get is why the nets decided a big three was needed, much less the players chosen. Big threes DONT typically work out. Big egos, playing skills vary, the power each of the players have…too much to juggle. The Miami heat had a big three and yet it feels as if they didn’t perform as well as expected. Was it a dynasty? Sorta? But then it was gone in a flash. Great stable teams may have big egos, but there is a sense that they can play with each other-that they knew each other-that even if one goes down, another teammate even if the guy ain’t a superstar can rise up. The warriors, Celtics, bulls, all had dynasties where many players helped push the teams forward. Now for the players themselves, Kevin Durant was puzzling. Great but the guy left golden state because…no chemistry. That’s insane to me. How on earth could you leave the warriors for Brooklyn? Durant has shown he needs to be coddled. Kyrie…even less so. Leaving lebron and then being a footnote in Boston. Yes he was an all star but do Celtic fans miss him? No. Kyrie wasn’t to be the top dog except he is not. I’m not even getting into his anti-Semitic, anti-Islamic, racism crap. Ben Simmons is exactly who he was when the nets signed him. It was bad when they made the trade. If you couldn’t win with harden Durant and kyrie together-what on gods green earth would you think BEN SIMMONS was the answer? I’m not blaming Ben necessarily. Back injuries, he does have some mental problems, and he DIDNT force the nets to sign him. This is the front office.
@nintendoconvert4045 Жыл бұрын
All Kyrie’s fault. If he acted like a mature adult, they would have been great. He kills every team he plays for. He’s a narcissist.

This is it right here. But it was also on the front office for keeping Nash when they let Mike D'Antoni and Ime Udoka walk.

The nets could have let play without the vaccine but they decided not to. The Nets management and NYC politics just wanted to make a statement by not allowing NY players to play home games but allowing visiting unvaxxed players to play.

@@NBRoCksinThEHOoD Nets management could have let him play, but I can understand why they didn't. Team chemistry would've been negatively impacted due to consistency. But I also agree that allowing unvaxxed away players to play, but not home players was dumb af.
