People hate it because it is as silent as a 3 cylinder 100 HP daily driver. And they are right. Nobody wants this in a sports, or even more Hyper Car! It's not that ugly... but with no sound, it's just boring. It might perform better, but it doesn't have "soul".

Personally, there are other Ferraris you can buy that are a bit more of a show piece. It’s pretty obvious this is a no-compromises road legal track car. It’s meant to be the fastest machine they can sell you. If that means it’s ugly or quiet, so be it. I might prefer to have something else but this car is obviously designed for the 799 people who want it to be impossible to get passed on a track day

Most Ferrari customers are not buying multi-million dollar Ferraris. Public perception is the biggest reason people buy Ferraris, it shows success in a cool and beautiful package. If public perception gets worse and the cars are no longer cool or beautiful, no one will dream of buying a Ferrari anymore and in the long run this can and probably will ruin them.

@@costafilh0 Ruining a company with Ferrari's legacy will take more than one halo model misstep. @@jamesaron1967 You're forgetting that the next Halo car will be an EV. There's no turning back. This is it. This was their last chance, and they missed it. Good for the lucky SP3 owners. And those who couldn't afford or get an allocation are getting the 12C. The legacy is dead. And not just for Ferrari, but for most manufacturers. Lamborghini is all hybrids and EVs now, but at least they're still making the V12, I guess.

Hmmm…let me get this straight. You’re saying that critics have “flipped,” but then all of the well known publications are celebrating the car while lesser known publications are bashing it? I’m speaking to someone presenting stuff as fact just to get likes or viewership. Some journalists like the car and others don’t. Whoa. Hold up. Stop. V6 or not, at no point is putting a race engine in a road car considered "cost cutting". Race engines cost more at every stage, from development to production, not to mention the further cost of detuning the engine and selection of parts still needed to handle the engine's power while maintaining the streetability and comfort of said road car. You could say a lot of things about Ferrari and the F80 but saying they were cheaping out here is ridiculous.

For everyone who says "they're all sold out." That's because they're limited, not because people like them. The way to do that is to buy every piece of crap Ferrari makes and has to offer. That's why you see collectors reselling SF90s as fast as they can.

Collectors can skip a car if they aren't interested in it, nothing major will happen, like David Lee skipped the Monza SP1/SP2 and still got a Daytona SP3 allocation. This allocation process is extremely misunderstood by the common people. Also, most SF90 Stradale owners have upgraded to the limited production SF90XX Stradale and that's why the used car market is filled with this car. It's quite common for such supercars.

@ if you don’t care about the engine and want something for the track, these things aren’t going to beat the McMurtry Spierling, Porsche 919 evo or rimac Nevera R (the non-R version has already made the SF90 look like a joke), which are 2-3 years old, that ‘game-changing’ track performance threshold has been passed long ago. So instead of worrying which car is faster on track, i’d rather have the sound of an NA v12 with a gintani exhaust over a turbo v6 which is quieter than the sound of the wind passing by.

@jikau7374 Oh so now we are comparing not road legal/barely road legal track cars, with road legal hypercars? What's next, comparing the Chiron with specialized dragsters? The Nevera is the fastest in a straight line, on track can't even beat the 918 Spyder on the Nordshcleife. What are you on about, apart from lying and over exaggerating stuff to reinforce your point? It's funny that you can't even separate road legal from not road legal, and track performance from drag racing. It's fine if you don't like the car. Just don't pretend the car was supposed to appeal to you, and that the brand's vision is less important than your own.

As a life-long Ferrari fan I just gotta say they've lost their way. Their cars are getting worse and worse for the past 10 years, their interiors are absolutely awful with all the touch controls, their recent cars will forever be "from their time". Also nothing with a Ferrari badge should have less than 8 cylinders, Enzo said it 60 years ago!

@miks564 5 күн бұрын
I'm not fond of many of the modern on steering wheel controls either, but by worse you mean sound and looks? ....try to look at the performance instead... The cars keep getting faster and more dynamically efficient. What Enzo knew then, doesn't stand against modern technology. A V12 sounds better but doesn't perform better than a smaller, lighter turbo charged unit. Check the Lambo Revuelto, they've opted for a naturally aspirated V12 with the hybrid system. It's an exceptionally fast car - but not as much as a SF90 with a smaller engine capacity V8 twin turbo. ...and The SF90 is definitely slower than the F80 with a V6. I'm ok with keeping performance the top goal, specially with limited edition hiper cars.

@ Displacememt or number of cylinders is how engines weee measured 40 + years ago. Forced induction and now also electricity changed that. It sounds to me like an aftermarket exhaust would make some sexy noises. The clip of the F80 in the rain from behind, when the car gets a little loose, was excellent, just heavily muffled. This car has the turbos, multiple catalysts, and probably an active muffler that is most likely in quiet mode for these track runs. I do agree that the car has been made for aero and maximum DF, and its styling took the backseat here. But I don't believe the car will be thoroughly admonished for its looks, nor its engine. The price is in Bugatti/Koenigsegg territory, and that's the real disturbing point. As for styling, I feel it's not only appropriate, but also will become highly considered in years to come. I have been watching the company (and I haven't liked much of the Ferrari politics and cronyism) since 1988. I was at the 1990 NY auto show at the Javits center, and since I personally knew the folks at Miller Motorcars, they gave myself and a friend VIP passes that let us (and I mean only us!!) up on the display to sit in the very first F40 American spec car. It was an honor! Since then, the F50 was ugly at first to me. But the design became so impressive when you sit and stare at the car with no preconceived feelings to ruin the experience. In the same way, the Enzo was also hideous to me on release, but I became admiring within a few months. The F80 also hit me wrong at first. And now I can see the beauty in the design, but I have changed my feelings this time faster than the previous examples. As for the driveline... It's not a factor of how many cylinders a car has that makes it special. Some of the rarest and most expensive Ferrari contain inline 4 cylinder engines. Bodies for these ancient Mondial models can fetch millions of dollars. On the Ferrari website, this is what they say about the car: "Powered by a 2000 cc four-cylinder engine, this model acquitted itself very honourably indeed in a whole host of races" Then there are the Dino V6 cars. Those, even though not badged Ferrari, were indeed made in the Ferrari factory. Although the engine was a V6 and also the same engine was offered in Fiat models, the Dino V6 is known for its glorious sound. Those cars are now pretty much unobtanium. They fetch handsome sums likely to exceed the price of an incredibly posh home. So why is everybody butt-hurt about the F80? I think too many journalists and critics just expect crazier and crazier designs, but then when a car like this OVER delivers on crazy, they rant and insult the design. These same people would also enjoy 24 cylinders and 6 turbos, and expect nothing less or else your offering isn't up to par. Also, I haven't heard anyone complain about paying well over a million for a early 70's Carrera RS 2.7? Yes far sexier than the F80 in every way, but the F80 is the mean look. Not meant to be sexy, more of a warning to pedestrians to get out of the way RIGHT NOW. It does this brilliantly. The overall ethic of the car reminds me of the Corvette C8 bodies, as far as the mean look goes. I wouldn't normally compare the two cars, but they both look mean- not pretty. Someone who grew up appreciating the old C3 corvette body lines might indeed be repulsed by the C8. Same goes for people expecting some new F40 retro-looking new hypercar who sees the F80. The real crux of the problem is the people who can afford these cars have driven the prices out of control based only on exclusivity and the boys club mentality of the company at large. All the high end brands are suffering this same fate of being controlled by, and fully in the pockets of, the wealthy mega-rich people who don't want YOU to have one. The Ferrari 288 GTO was once an affordable car (still expensive, but not prohibitively so) at 78,000 at launch and 84,000 USD the end of production. They skyrocketed in value over just a few years and by 1990 were trading for 1M USD all day long. This market only lasted for a couple years, and rapidly crashed once the few buyers willing to pay up at that price were satisfied. Soon many people who just bought the cars as investments were unable to purchase the F40, for "speculation" on the markets, as Ferrari realized they missed out on selling these cars at 200,000 USD. The company punished its customers by artificially raising the prices of, and exclusivity to, its new buyers. They pushed the F40 out to 300k USD, and yet the 288 GTO was five times rarer and more special, and also had more creature comforts and time spent on it. This cemented the price inflation of all exotic cars at the top of their respective ranges. The McLaren F1 is a great example. It was the most expensive car of it's time, and now worth 20-30M USD. It has a special version of a BMW V12, but it's still based on a relatively common engine. The F80 has a very unusual V6 at 120 degrees, almost laid flat. The 296 shares similarities and should serve as an example of the sound that may lurk under the F80s muffled stock exhaust. Time will tell. But the latest Ford GT does indeed fetch quite a bit of coin and it has a V6 "Ecoboost" engine. Should we all just say it sucks and forget that it is a modern poster car worthy of its heritage just because times have changed? At least the F80 still has a fuel burner. If it was full electric, I wouldn't even bother writing this tome. THAT would NOT be a Ferrari. It would be an appliance.

The contingency with F80 will be temporary at the moment. Since initial time of release, i can understand. Also which reminded me at a certain point i was once never into the 458 Italia or the LaFerrari initially. But as I got older i started to see the style of it and pretty much understand their incentive. Like V12 engines being more sought after, like how many car enthusiasts expect crazier designs and such. Sometimes variety of V6 or V8 can stand out for different models. I personally think the F80, is supposedly trying to stand out. Like something fresh out of an ideation from Ferrari. I’m not too hyper focused on looks but on the perceptive spectrum, I can see the direction with Ferrari. Which i can compare to other car brands as of 2024.

Agree with a lot of your comments. Especially about the potential of a nice design the car had while under the cammo. I’m actually ok with the lack of the V-12. The V-8’s did fine in the 288GTO and the F40. Too bad the sound isn’t more like the third gen Ford GT. Overall, and saying this as a Ferrari owner, the design just doesn’t cut it.

I don't hate Ferrari, i don't have money to buy Ferrari but to be honest, even if i had the money, i wouldn't buy it any of their cars. I prefer cars that are durable, comfortable , safe, reliable , i don't want to feel every bump in the road and make a sound like a fighter jet and pay a ton of money for that. Not my type. I don't see the point of these cars, sorry. The only reason anyone would ever buy these things is to show others that they are rich. LOL. Give me 30 billion i couldn't care less about what others think. I would still drive a brand new Lexus, a car that is made to be driven not made to be kept in a garage as a trophy. So yeah, sorry, some of us don't like Ferrari because we like comfort , safety and blending in. But you go ahead and buy your street rocket it doesn't impress me at all. Ferraris are like planes, private jets. Take me where i need and show everyone how cool i am but it costs me 1 million a year just to keep that thing in working condition lol. These cars aren't made to last, they are only made to last one day of racing.

F80 is a brave design, I like it. Ferrari is brave to make an "out of the box" design, with a state-of-the-art powertrain. There are several conservative V12 models if somebody want to buy one, but F80 is unique. In the 80s, F40 was also ugly compared to those models...

Enzo actually never cared how his car looked, he just wanted a powerful, fast car and winning races. The design would even be done by third parties like Pininfarina. The funniest part is that Enzo hated making car for people to buy, he only made car to win races and live with the cash price but as you must have guessed, that's not a really good economics, you don't always win. Ferrari was actually going bankrupt because of that but even though, his collaborators had to force him to make car for people to buy 😂.

The engine sound can certainly be improved through tuning measures. If this does not produce an appropriate sound, concealed external speakers could be installed through which appropriate engine noises could be emitted. For example, those of the LaFerrari. This would also make it possible to emit many different engine noises. However, I doubt that sports car enthusiasts would be enthusiastic about such a stopgap solution. What was Ferrari thinking? Perhaps they wanted to appeal to new target groups, such as Disney with Star Wars for example?

EU regulations just kicked in destroying V12 options but I actually think a hybrid V6 with electric driven turbochargers is cool matched with electric motors creating awd all using technology from a le man's winning hypercar. This is awesome. It's the same tech if Toyota had brought the GR Super Sport to market or the Porsche 919 Street. Give to time and it will be an all time great for drivers. This thing is a monster. Domestics) down in Maryland at MIR. re: "This is supposed to be a notch up or 5 or 10 from that lol". well can you honestly say looking at the F80 (parked next to a 296) that the latest Ferrari Hypercar is not "5 to 10 notches" ABOVE a GTB from a visual perspective...? i mean the F80 looks like a friggin' SPACE SHIP (a bad ass space ship). re: "you can’t have this car not AT LEAST sound like that one with way more power..." oh but you CAN have exactly that (and you will). again, it's very important we pay attention to the calendar on the wall and recognize (good or bad) that we're now DEEP into the era of EV's, Hybrids, and electrification where vehicles like the Tesla Tri-Motor Plaid, Dual-Motor Porsche Taycan, and Quad-Motor Rimac Nevera make absolutely ZERO SOUND while "crushing" everybody on Torque and HP, the existence of these vehicles goes some way at explaining WHY the F80 is now itself a "Tri-motor" electrically speaking. that being said, something else important to recognize is how the LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918, and Gen-2 Acura NSX are all now basically 10 year old designs (2013). these are the Gen-1 Performance Hybrids originally inspired by F1's introduction of KERS a full 3 years earlier for the 2009 season... okay now fast-forward to the year 2024 and now we have the 7x Champs Mercedes AMG One, McLaren's W1, Lambo Revuelto, and the Bug' Tourbillion soon joining the party, but out of these 4 cars the only TRUE RIVAL to the F80 is the Mercedes (which stands to reason since the Germans are the ones to most recently break Ferrari's dominance in F1).

As a long time BMW and Porsche owner, even BMW has joined the ranks of ugly designs with exception of the 3 series, 8 series and perhaps the X3, X4 and X5.

IMO, the car should have retained a V12 or at least a V8, but that engine is one of the best sounding V6s ever in the 296. With an exhaust, it sounds even better. As far as looks go, I remember people hating on the McLaren 720 when that came out because some of the features were very unique. I don't hear those comments anymore. I think this car will grow on people over time. BTW, back in the day the GTO and the F40 had haters because their turbo engines didn't have the familiar scream people were used to. How did that work out?

La Ferrari is drop dead gorgeous IMO, of course being their top hypercar model it has more aggressive style than the regular models, but it manages to combined that very purposeful aggression with beauty. I actually like the F80's design, although in fairness I preffer boxy cars over round ones in general (dont mind the fact that I own a round bubly TT, thats an exception to that rule). The square body gives off this retro-futuristic vibe to me. Although I can agree that it does strike a suspiciously close resemblance to the civic and some pickups from the right angles. Other than that the F80 is quite the let down, I think it would have been an interesting car had it had a v12. With a v6 it just looks too big, like if I were to open the bonnet it would be an almost empty engine bay, in that regard it just looks like its compensating for its small engine by trying to be huge.

There is one thing people seem to not take into consideration about this car. The way Ferrari makes their Halo cars is by applying the technology of racing into the Road car. Now both F1 and 499P use the V6 engine so logically Ferrari uses that. The looks are also derived from the 499P as this is supposed to be the road going version of said car. This is what the hypercar rules were actually designed to be.

While I am disappointed to not hear a V12, I think it's spectacular that they managed to push 800hp from a V6. And while LaFerrari is probably one of the best looking Ferraris ever, the F80 is no ugly duckling either. Ferrari has publicly stated that they have no intention of getting rid of the V12 in their GT cars plus they have no intention of going into a full EV mode either. So in terms of performance I think the F80 is brilliant, it looks good in motion and it doesn't actually sound that bad for a V6, ofcourse it doesn't have the visual and aural drama of LaFerrari, but that's what happens when you name your car "the definitive Ferrari"
