Fireballs are actually one of those things that intimidate new players. They HATE seeing matches where a player zones out another. That's actually why fireballs get reworked all the time. It seems like they're trying to find that goldilocks spot where they're not too strong (i.e. SFII) or too weak (i.e. 3rd Strike) and still be fun.
@Neogears1312
@Neogears1312 Жыл бұрын
They weren’t that weak in 3s though. Akuma still did full fire ball zoning in that game. It just required you to be part of the equation. In sf2 you can throw a hadoken repeatedly and that does all the screen control. Inn3s you’re supposed to approach along side the fire ball as parrying it will lock you down preventing you from being able to escape an oncoming mix up.

@@Neogears1312 That's exactly what I mean! Fireballs aren't strong enough to get the job done alone like they are in SFII. I don't mean that they're useless in 3rd Strike. They're just stronger on their own in every other game. I personally prefer 3rd Strike's application of them because it encourages lower level players (like me) to stay grounded and make better, more strategic decisions.

@@nemoisnobody k. That’s just common misconception 3 has that fire balls are bad because you can’t sf2 sagat that shit and wanted it on record fireballs are pretty good in sf3 they’re just not the entirety of a neutral interaction.
@nemoisnobody
@nemoisnobody Жыл бұрын
@@Neogears1312 I never said that they are BAD, though. You're actually arguing my original point. SF2's fireballs are stronger because, as you said, they carry a lot in neutral. SF3 fireballs are weaker because they don't. Doesn't mean 3's fireballs are bad.

Some characters had the blessed 1 button fireball like Cyclops in X-Men: COTA and Mega Man in MVC2.

Technically, Chun-Li was more of a hybrid character in Street Fighter II Turbo; like @ganjagun0025 pointed out, her fireball was a half circle + punch move. She wouldn't become a full-blown charge character until Super SF2, then would just simply become a mixed bag of command inputs because in some games she'd be all charge, hybrid in others, and zero charge in the MvC games

Chun Li in SF 2 didn't throw a fireball by pressing back for 2 seconds and forward punch. It was a half circle and punch. It didn't become back for two seconds and forward punch until SSF2.

I think fireballs will be a liability in sf6.. there’s too many mechanics that negate them and the trade off isn’t worth it… from what I’ve played/seen anyway.

Idk man... I think you need a level of knowledge about these games to try to make a video about this... You don't mention how massively impactful it was that going from WW to CE they moved the hurtbox of the Hadouken away from the foot, so now the fireball was a functional poke. In WW, characters could easily check the fireball on startup. This video is casual junk honestly. You don't know what you're talking about at all. There is no serious analysis going on here.
