In 2021. Just discovered your channel and I think this series is so dope. You taking the time to explain match up charts and what each players game plan is going into the match is beyond amazing for somebody like me who doesn’t know everything about the FGC but follows channels such as the fellows of yo video games, Matt Mcmuscles, wolly, and such this series was great.

Diego Flores I'd hardly put it in the same conversation with any physical sport, but it ripe for analysis and is also quite competitive. It's no more of a sport than a monopoly tournament though. At least not in my opinion. I'm glad people can get paid to play games. If it stated earlier I would have tried to find a way to go pro some game or another.

Great video. I play fighting games, and as someone who's starting sf2 and old games it's hard to get that common scene knowledge that people had growing up playing the game. So much of it just disappeared in the change from board to websites and so on. Maybe at a tournament I'll gleam something from another player but even then! So I find videos like this dope. Thanks man. Keep preaching to the choir. We love it.

22:25 - hey Croft’s. I’ve never played super turbo (and actually I’ve never been able to play fighting games correctly until injustice 2 or DBFZ) but I’ve found your commentary on this video, and many others to be very digestible for an FGC newcomer. It’s very interesting to hear your takes with added context and explanations to keep me engaged and understanding what is happening throughout the matches/gameplay. Thanks for your content - it’s really helped me to appreciate the FGC for something other than the toxic online parts I’ve seen previously 😁👍

What Street Fighter needs is for Mike Tyson to come out to the public and say, "Look, I don't give a damn what Capcom names that boxer in Street Fighter II! They can come out and name him after me, for all I care!" ...but that wouldn't be a Mike Tyson move, would it? :-/

I had fun playing Super Turbo as a kid on console, but NEVER knew anything about it’s competitive community before I got into the FGC. That being said, I REALLY enjoyed this video. Loving how you have been giving these FGC lessons. I have always been a fighting game fan. Didn’t grow up around arcades. I started running my own tournaments in college (unaware of how deep the FGC actually even was lol), then became a smash player and since have delved into the rabbit whole of competitive gaming (probably good that it came late in life, because I most likely would have never done anything else lol) So I missed a LOT of FG history, and these videos have been great for me!

The Reason for the characters having different names is because Boxer was originally called M.Bison an his likeness was modeled after M.Tyson or Iron Mike Tyson former world champ, Capcom didnt want to get sued when porting to English so they swapped his name to Balrog, Dictator to M.Bison

I spent a huge amount of time as a teenager playing this gave in a local bowing ally. All the kids in the surrounding area would come and compete. I imagine it was the same wherever this gave was. I have never seen competitive play, or realized it was a thing. I can see why the game is still played, it just so fast paced and captivating. Thank you for sharing and giving the commentary. It really helped understand what competitive play is like and the terms for the moves we did like "Chip" is really cool. Awesome fun.

I’ve been a Mortal Kombat player for 20 years, love me some Guilty Gear, enjoyed some Fatal Fury, Bloody Roar and Tekken in my time as well. But I could never get into Street Fighter, found inputs to be more difficult than MK and other games. Recently at work we got a Street Fighter 2 arcade machine. I played it and as always got destroyed by the computer and worse yet my coworkers and my boss. I did manage to pull off some hadokens and tatsumakis though. Then I figured out how to pull off a shoryuken on command. Even though I could finally beat the computer I couldn’t beat my coworkers. So I switched to Sagat and finally beat my coworkers. Today at work I beat my boss 3-1 as Sagat vs Guile. I also bought SFV CE recently and really enjoy Ryu/Ken/Akuma, Cammy, Laura, Sagat (of course), Alex, and G. I’m new but finally getting what’s so great about Street Fighter. Videos like this fuel the fire that is my newfound love of SF as well as my knowledge of the meta and FGC lore.

Imagine making this into a movie: "Okay, so who's going to play the sumo wrestler E Honda?" "A kid named Kusomondo." "That's pretty racist, but okay. And what about the Jamaican, DeeJay?" "I'm thinking someone named AfroLegends." "Good lord, you're not even trying to avoid a lawsuit, are you."
@PatriciaCross
@PatriciaCross 3 жыл бұрын
Years ago I had the fortunate chance to run into Afrolegend on GGPO. He stayed in our match a good while and I got to get some real practice with my Claw on him. I guess he really enjoyed the matchup against me to stick around so long. I got a lot of Claw practice against him and it was one of the best moments in my Street Fighter life. While I couldn't take a match on him, I was able to win a fair number of rounds. That few hours of grinding against him did a lot for my gameplay and self esteem as a player. I really appreciated it. I still think back to that set to this day. It impacted me way beyond Street Fighter as well. I think it's around this time I really started to value losses and trying to learn from them. Made me better at most games I played (even Magic) and at life in general.
