Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced the Illuminati into the MCU, with a comic-accurate lineup. Reed Richards, Professor Xavier, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, and captain Marvel all faced off against Wanda--and all of them were easily beaten. But this does not mean that the Illuminati are gone forever form the MCU. In fact, we think this is just a peak of our favorite secret super team's future role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The MCU finally gave us the Illuminati….and then they killed them all.
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
If you are bummed out that Marvel killed off the Illuminati so quickly, don’t stress about it too much.
Because there’s a very good chance the Illuminati will be back, and this time it will be more than just a couple of fun cameos.
Doctor Strange 2 established the biggest threat to the multiverse, and that’s incursions. Which is exactly where the Illuminati could come in.
Stepehn is going to deal with the threats to the multiverse, and for that he’s going to need a team like the Illuminati.
So let’s map out how the illuminati can return, and what the MCU could do with them in the future.
Before we explain how the Illuminati will return, let’s explain the Illuminati we saw in the movie.
Stephen and America Chavez travel to Earth-838. Where they are captured and put on trial before the Illuminati.
The team consists of Professor X, Mister Fantastic, Captain Carter, Captain Marvel aka Maria Rambeau, Blackagar Boltagon aka Black Bolt, and finally Karl Mordo.
Earth-838’s Doctor Strange was part of the team, but he was executed after using the Daarkhold. He did that to stop Thanos, but that triggered an incursion, which is a universe ending event.
And that’s why the illuminati were so stressed about our Stephen arriving in their universe. Because they were afraid that Stepehn will trigger an incursion.
Which is exactly what happened, after Stephn used the Darkhold to dreamwalk.
Earth-838’s Illuminati were all slaughtered by Wanda. Which wasn’t such a big loss all considered, because they were a bunch of arrogant jerks.
Now while the Illuminati are all dead, this is not the last time we will see heroes from Earth-838 in the MCU. Because remember Mordo is still alive, and one of the other members of the group might have survived as well. But more on that later.
838 Strange formed the Illuminati to be a group who will make the difficult decisions that no one else could.
Which is how the team was created in the comics. The Illuminati originally came together as a team that takes preemptive actions against threats to Earth. Unlike the Avengers who are a reactive team.
They make the decisions that the Avengers won’t. Like when they threw Hulk into space so won’t put Earth in danger anymore.
While 838 Illuminati kidna sucked, there’s no denying that Earth needs a team like that.
I mean just look at what went down with Wanda, that pretty much proves that the world needs a team that is willing to take preemptive actions against threats. Before it’s too late, like when those threats go on a rampage and kill a bunch of people.
And that’s the stuff that keeps Stepehn awake at night. And it’s the very reason why he will form the Illuminati.
All of this being said, based on multiverse of madness, the MCU's Illuminati will be dealing mostly with the multiverse crisis.
The reason why 838 Illuminati put Stepehn on trial was because they were afraid he would trigger a multiversal incursion.
Incursions are the next big thing in the MCU. Once an incursion is triggered, the boundaries between realities shatter, causing two universes to collide with each other. Leading to the destruction of one of them or both.
In the credits scene, Clea shows up, telling Stepehn that he triggered an incursion and now they need to stop it. And this means that Stepehn will be dealing with incursions in the future.
The multiverse crisis is shaping up to be the MCU’s next major event, kinda like Thanos and the Infinity Stones were in the first 3 phases. The show Loki established the threats to the MCU [clip]. And now multiverse of madness confirmed just how high the stakes are.

@@InnerAtanih he had multiple ones which is why for people not paying attention or expecting the normal “hero’s journey” wouldn’t pick up on them (I don’t the first time) 1 he learned that he doesn’t have to “hold the knife” or whatever they called it in the movie, he can let others take control without losing himself. 2 he learned that his whole “In the grand calculus of the multiverse, their sacrifice means infinitely more than their lives.” Perspective was flawed, he needed to trust America into using her own powers instead of taking them from her and this killing her. 3 Doctor Strange confesses the the reason him and Christine never worked out was because he “gets scared” strange is a very emotionally reserved person, he had to learn to be more vulnerable, which will probably be explored more extensively in his next appearance which is why they didn’t focus too much on this one. More like a preview of things to come. I loved this movie so I hope this was helpful in some way!

I don't think Clea is going to be in the Illuminati, I see her more like a lone wolf, similar to Wanda. I personally think it will consist of Strange, Professor X, Reed Richards, maybe Monica Rambeau, and my personal favorite pick would be White Vision. His lack of emotion and unbiased view of the world is a perfect fit for the team. I also really liked the idea of having Ikaris in, even if it would ruin his death's scene.

I think the biggest problem in the MCU moving forward is to find a way to establish some very simple rules about HOW things work; EG Incursions, travelling between Universes, etc. Those rules have too many blurry edges at the moment. Example: When someone from another universe travels to a different one, what has to happen for an incursions to start? If it is just having that person in a different universe, then why not just evacuate all the people from one Earth to the other so that one of the Earths can be destroyed? The only sacrifice would be a planet while saving all the people. Of course it can't be that easy, but that is a fuzzy area that needs to be addressed in the "Rules."

the mcu has become exactly what Martin Scorsese described them as, theme park rides. they're fun and sometimes visually impressive, and sometimes they invoke emotion for a brief period, but they have zero staying power or weight or meaning. plot means nothing, since death is irrelevant and events and character traits and motivations are constantly retconned or simply ignored. there's no rules, nothing is a constant from one movie to the next on any level, it's just about making the next movie or property and characters just say or do anything in order to set the new property up, regardless of what they say or did in the past. i enjoy a lot of these movies, and i enjoyed MOM too. but aside from some visuals, there was nothing of substance and i'll forget about it a week from now.

What I‘m worried about is this story being too complex to fit into movies the was MCU did in the past. Movies and character‘s stories were self contained. You could watch thor:ragnarok without needing to know all the background info from previous movies. In MOM, they had to fit in Wandas arch, and background of one other universe and it already became rushed and unpleasant for casual viewers. If you didnt watch wandavision, wandas actions didnt really make sense. And there was no time to get invested into America, because so many other things had to be explained, too. I think a complex story involving so many universes will suffer from the same problem.

I would be in favor of the multidimensional Illuminati. The whole idea of the members having to basically sacrifice their universe to join seems intense and I'm here for it. It would make the whole action of collecting the team have weight and be something worth investing a disney+ series towards. If it was just 616 members the scene could be done in a fast montage during Antman 3 or season 2 of Loki and miss a huge opportunity.

Yeah, but the choice is, one planet dies or TWO UNIVERSES DIE RIGHT NOW. That's a different question than the one Thanos proposed. His thing was that there was not enough resources for too many people, and he had an elegant solution. Nothing was at stake in the moment. No near crisis.

It was also a point in the comics that is still contested. Cap didn't agree with destroying other universes, while the other five members (Beast instead of Xavier at the time) saw it as the only way. They mind-wiped Cap and did it anyway. It was later discovered and led to a falling out between heroes those who agreed, those who didn't, and those who just wanted to save lives regardless. MCU cant travel the path of the comics though since in this universe a lot of the key things are missing or people are dead. Thanos joined the universe-ending team, Doom is a major part of the incursions, and The Infinity Gauntlet and stones played a small but meaningful role. I think the next few years of MCU are going to be having the Incursion of 838 be a background thing, and they'll put out movies not really say what universe it's in until we get a big Infinity War event where it becomes clear a lot of universes are colliding because people have been falling into other universes this whole time.

I had a thought on the existing Illuminati. What if none of them died. Bear in mind, you had Professor X there, and while he is not all powerful, he is pretty damn accomplished. What if, for arguments sake, the fight between Wanda and the Illuminati was actually all in Wanda's head, projected there by Professor X. Letting 616 Wanda see what she needed to see to keep her busy until Strange could make his play.

I think it was heavily implied that Maria Rambeau died. Marvel could decide to retcon this after seeing your video because you have great ideas, but I don't believe there was any shenanigans with her dying. They showed her limp hand fall. However, we did not see Wanda's body, just a red burst, however we had (possible) foreshadowing of Wanda being alive under rubble.

Idk how Marvel haven’t realize they’ve already provided a reason why mutants can exists. In both Avengers Infiniti war and end game, the gauntlet was used 3 times causing a massive releasing of cosmic radiation. They can use this as the triggered the mutant gene world wide.

I think it would have to be a mix of this and saying that some mutants already existed and have been in hiding, since you have mutants like Magneto or Wolverine who’s age and origins are tied to their mutant biology in some way.

I think it makes sense to have a mother variation of the illuminati. But I'm not sure if its be led by dr strange. Just kinda feels like it undoes his arch in the movie. Or at least brings up the question why did he try so hard to protect America Chavez, if he's willing to sacrifice other universes. I think it makes sense for the team to be led by Dr. Strange just not our Dr. Strange

It’s very far-fetched but I think a smaller villain that will have a larger story will be Knull. With multiversal travel now common and Sony attempting to grow their universe, the best way to combine the two would be a knull arc somehow.

I think the line up of illuminati in earth 838 is as follows Professor x - x-men Reed richards - fantastic 4 Baron mordo - sorcerers Black bolt - inhumans Capt. Carter - avengers Maria rambeau - sword Since earth 838 was not blipped maria has a form the sword to battle extraterrestrials. If dr. Strange will form an illuminati in earth 616 he will recruit monica instead of carol because i think monica will lead the sword after the event in wanda vision.

It would be coo to see an earthly Illuminati that deals with threats that impact their earth alone and Multiversal Illuminati that deals with threats that impact the multiverse as a whole. This allows for a more comic accurate version of the team and a more MCU drawn out version and many different interactions.

I think it'll be more of option one where I could see Feige plan is to merge all the universes and timelines to one single timeline of earth 616 (main mcu) meaning multiple universes will be destroyed leaving the main mcu. That way the end of the incursion saga (guess that the new name like the infinty saga) will be all the separate universes merging into a single mcu universe where mutants will be dominating, planet eaters will show up, and where a doom will be on the horizon. Even though What if.... is a animated marvel show and dives into what if stories and multiverse it's not established if that is connected to the mcu movies and if another watcher shows up Feige probably loosely base it in the animated show. When the Incursion saga is over and the next phase starts I think mcu will be one universe, one timline, one story flow.

I love the idea of Multiversal Illuminati and that's might what they are trying to do with What If. That would be a perfect crossover. I hope John Krasinski play the role of Maker, universe 838 looking for revenge and also I love the idea of Wanda being "used" by Dr. Doom, then Scarlet Witch connects every Wanda minds and find her redemption.

There's some precedent I just read in Uncanny Xmen where cyclops is killed by Jason Wyngarde (Mastermind) while in a mental state, essentially his Astral form. The shock is so great that it nearly kills him, but he does survive. So Professor X could survive the mental "neck break". Since he's the only one of the members who advocated for Strange, it would be nice for him to come back.

Loki and Icarus makes great sense, not sure about Sylvie since she is very emotional and not cold-smart. Would like to see the new Vision in-there as well, since it's a very pragmatic character. Also get Hawkeye and Daredevil on that mix, and you could make an entire movie only based on amazing dialogues and moral conflicts between those great characters. Hawkeye makes a lot of sense to me since it's the most human of all the super-heroes, a moral pillar, and has a dark past on his own. Very nice ideas, would love to see some of them played out in future movies, those dramatic confrontations between several characters sound great. Also re-cast RDJ as Superior Iron-man, RDJ would be a great villain.

Here’s my question - in Loki episode 3, Sylvie pruned the sacred timeline - because pruning sends things to the Void I’m not sure how this happened, but it created a bunch of branches. In the very next episode, those branches don’t show up on the TVA’s screen. Was THAT the event that caused the timeline to split before she killed He Who Remains? Because it wasn’t his death that caused the split, it began to fracture while he was still alive. It is clear now that “red lining” brings the timelines to a state where they can incur with each other. So I guess the core of my question is, how much of the madness is a result of Kang, and how much of it is a result of Sylvie’s makeshift bomb?

I think Sylvie pruned it as a distraction to clear out the TVA and go after the time keepers. The TVA was able to fix it but it took almost all of their manpower which is why she was able to infiltrate it. Killing he who remains is what triggered the multiverse as he was the one keeping the sacred timeline afloat.

Each of the other six illuminati members represent a different team or a different source of power - but Iron Man was the leader of the team of non-super powered individuals.
