My civic was recently stolen. Cost was $900 to get it out from an LA impound. I said just keep it. They auction it off for $300. Now they sent me a letter for $2600 in tow fees and storage fees. Absolutely bs. It's now against my credit and their attorneys can care less that it was stolen from my driveway. I feel this story in so many ways
@chevelle63056 жыл бұрын
I get why people are mad about it but towing companies get called to impound a car. Why should they bear the financial cost of recovering your car?
@jonanderson44746 жыл бұрын
Why charge $150 then another $100 or so. To go basically be a cab and a drunk tank for an inanimate object already paid for as well as in a bad situation. Yeah lot fees and time worked. But it's not like they have to rebuild the stuff. It's chillin. Shoot my guy parked his car in my front yard for two years just to junk it. Yeah I could have charged him or asked for a cut. In the end. Why over charge someone for something?

Yup pos car thieves. I lost three cars when I mentality went f'k it; I soldered a rug needle to a 12v solinoid and put it under the drivers seat facing upward with a pressure pad in the seat. Sit on the seat the solinoid would fire shooting the needle up stabbing the thief in the ass. I wired ot into the car alarm and a bypass switch. I got a call from the cops about my car. Cop was snickering. My car alarm had gone off where I had parked at a for me gf's house. The cops said neighbors reported car alarm and a guy bouncing up and down in the driver's seat screaming. They arrested the pos and laughed themselves sick when they found out why he was screaming; that was in the "old" days; today they'd arrest me for doing that again.

@@anonanonme2463 Funny story but you can understand why it sounds like BS.. Especially since it is posted by a random, anonymous person on the net where people make up lies for absolutely no reason.. Most people would spend that time and money making sure the car cannot be stolen again, rather than making sure that when it IS stolen again, the thief gets stuck by a needle.. Which they would then just break and finish taking the car. No way I can believe this story.

November of 2004, I had my 97 Nissan Altima stolen out of the Kean University parking lot. Car was worth maybe 3 grand. Found in Newark 2 days later, completely stripped. I had Christmas gifts in the trunk, with receipts. Insurance gave me 8,430 dollars for that car. I couldn't believe it. When they came back with the number, I just said "YES". Got my 01 Honda Prelude out of that, owned that for 6 years. I understand the forum comrade, and I miss it. Seeing posts from the VQ forums brings me back to the old Prelude Forums, where if this had happened to one of our members, we would have banded together as well. Thanks photobucket for killing the forums by the way.

Been down that road . Sold a 99 Maxima 5spd (factory) (buy here pay here) it was involved in a small drug bust in the lower part of the state (Myrtle Beach). Towing company that towed the car from the scene after it was searched contacted me since I was the lien holder on the car. Wanted to charge me storage and fees to pick the car up. I told them to keep it. Put a judgement against the guy that purchased the car. And that was another title thrown in the trash lol . Manual Maxima's are fun cars though.

In 2000 I got it in my head that I wanted a BMW 850i, because I wanted to experience the v12 life. The first 850i I looked at was a Cocaine white automatic with tan leather interior. The car was for sale at a used car dealer across the street from the local Porsche dealer, it seems they assumed the physical proximity would help convey an air of sophistication and class to them somehow. Anyway, the car was disheveled, reflected by the $25k price tag. The problem is that almost every removable cover in the car was loose or missing. I look up and the little cover that lets you access the backside of the dome light was missing. The door panels were loose in the back, fit and finish was really terrible. I passed on that car. Something told me that the interior color matched the exterior color at some point in its life.

I remember when i was like about 7-9 years old. My dad owned a RX-7 FB. We worked on it since i was a little kid. We got it running, Then it broke down. We parked it in our neighborhood, So then one night somebody broke into it, stealing some stuff and motor parts. We had a camera and caught it but it wasnt the best quality because it was a standard grade camera. The cops came the other day and suggested they did a finger print on the car, However the car was so rusted they could not help. So we were looking around and saw some of the parts on a car was on another car forsale on ebay. He had a sticker on it but he never took a picture of the engine bay, So the cops did no help. The next day or two we found out the car sold. At that point we gave up and left that car in a safer space. Now were starting to rebuild it but we dont have the time. It was a good run i gotta' say.

Also, PSA: "comprehensive" coverage on your insurance, esp with a high deductible is typically super cheap. It doesn't fix the car if YOU wreck it, but it will cover theft. Having just that + mandatory liability is way cheaper than "full" coverage, but a good CYA. (from one in the industry).

First and foremost always have insurance to cover the actual value of your custom ride. Secondly ALWAyS ALWAYS ALWAYS have a GPS tracker with an independent power source well hidden in the vehicle. A trucking company I know of actually takes their new trucks and puts a cellular based tracker box in all their trucks because so many were stolen. The box is usually hidden in the headliner and powered from the done right, or hidden behind a cabinet in the sleeper or hidden in the ratsnest of wiring in the dash and well camouflaged. If the truck is stolen they almost always get tracking data to where the truck is. I think they went from recovering %15 of stolen trucks to over %90. And the tracking service us only $20 a month. And the discount on insurance MORE than covers that fee. AAMoF one stolen truck got discovered missing from Chicago very early on. It was still moving. So the police followed at a distance and when it stopped they lived in and found 3 trucks that had been stolen that very night and 5-6 others from the previous few days in various stages of being torn down. But the tracking enabled truck had only had it's elog box removed ( those also track so the thieves knew to remove) but all the trucks recovered from that nights thefts had NO actual damage.
