Wow, my man, you just touched a real soft spot in my hart. Euclid Beach Park has some of the most fond memories of my childhood in the 1950s. Be it politics or otherwise, I hated to see that park close. I've often wondered could it be rebuilt somewhere els along the lake to it's former glory. That would truly be nice. But, being 69, I know that will never happen. Nice article. In the words of another great Cleveland native, Bob Hope. Thanks For The Memories. Peace. Out!!!!

I had to discover that a good friend of my father and uncle was behind the pressing of the button that detonated that bomb. I used to call this man Mr Ron when I was a kid in South Collinwood but turned out his name was Ron Carabbia

I lived in Brookpark (south east of the Cleveland airport) from 1959 to 1965. I spent most of my time in Middleburgh Hgts. That bordered Brookpark on Sheldon Road. Back then it was farm lands, wide open fields and ancient woods. Now it's just warehouses and office buildings. My school Helen J. Neeley is gone to make more homes.

My family (9 children plus 2 parents) moved to Cleveland from Mobile, AL in 1974, and we lived near the Shaw Skating rink close to the corner of St. Clair Ave. and 125th Street. In 1976 we moved to 114th Street and St.Clair Ave., right across from the new Glenville High School. In 1975 I attended Kindergarten at Hazeldale Elementary, and in 1977 I attended Forest Hill Parkway Elementary, and in 1984 Patrick Henry Jr. High near Lakeview Ave. and Durant, and I was bussed in 1987 from the Eastside of Cleveland to the Westside near Clark Ave. and Scranton Ave. to attend Lincoln-West High School 🏫 where I graduated in 1989 to attend BGSU of Bowling Green, OH. I started a family, and eventually obtained my Bachelor’s degree at Cleveland State University in 1996. Cleveland was a major part of my growing up, and I love it; however, in 2007 I eventually moved near Greensboro, NC.😇❤️

You forgot to mention the old McDonalds next to Collinwood High School, off of 152nd Street and St. Clair Ave. It was hauled away by trucks to a museum, as it made history as being one of the oldest Mickey Dee’s in America. 🇺🇸

That very skating rink was ran by my uncle and was paying dues to Ron carabia. The man who actually detonated the bomb that killed Greene

It also put the Cedar Brainard Medical Center in Lyndhurst on the map, cause that’s where the car bomb went off in 1977. My understanding is that the mobsters who set off the bomb were seen by a court artist who was able to make a drawing of those involved as they left the parking lot. I thought Danny Greene spent his time in Collinwood. Glenville was the home of the Glenville riots in the sixties. At the time of Danny Green, Glenville wasn’t part of the territory.

I would like to see a video on the Carmine Zagaria, Hans Grawe, Keith Ritson, Kavin McTagert, Westside Crew, that took over power after Danny Green was gone. Keith & Kavin were with Green but Keith disappeared shortly after Danny was gone ? Carmine ran things out of is fish store, "The Jungle Aquarium" on Lorain Ave. It would make for a good story !

The Westside Crew after Danny Greene Was killed had no.choice other than merge With the Cleveland Outfit. The Outfit was only getting 25% of the profits from Youngstown as PIttsburgh Family controlled The Mahoning County Area. The Cleveland Outfit needing a infusion Of revenue started to.get involved in narcotics which was prohibited by John Scalish for decades. Jack Licavoli lacked the ability to induct New soldiers that had long term plans For the validity of the family. Guys like Calandra, and Liberatore were aging and wanted quick profits. Hence the emergence of the drugs rackets in the family. The Family lacked soliders that knew how To make.money from.white collar rackets

@Joanne Rogers hi how are you doing. Hope your well. I think when you are, dealing with LCN families its natural That you have killers like Hans Grawe among the ranks. Especially when drug profits are concerned. The Outfits problem was Lonardo and Licavoli were insulated From the reckless approach to the ameuterish killings. Lonardo had his own issues with Maishe Rockman and Jack White simply lacked the savy tp find good captains and soldiers for the big picture

We had a park like Euclid Beach down in New Orleans... Pontchartrain Beach, and Lincoln Beach for the non caucasians. Both are long since closed. We arrived in Cleveland in 1912, went back to Italy, and returned to Cleveland in 1924. We left Cleveland in 1964, 6 months before I was born. I came to Cleveland in 1985 to see about a sick relative who lived in the Condos on Green Road. One of her neighbors told me to take the Red line train from Hopkins to Windermere... that was an education. The sweet lady train driver was beside herself with me being there by myself at 0200am.. she stayed there an hour while I tried to get a taxi... NONE would come. She finally got a CPD unit to give me a ride. I was a Deputy at the time and brought "rosco" with me. The CPD said it wouldn't have done me much good in Windermere. The Sergeant gave me his card and told me to carry it until I was ready to get on the plane back home😂 Grandfather was an architect/artist and some of his work still remains. St. Wendelin's Catholic church for one.
