It may feel like an alternate universe but there was a time when Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets were setting the NFL on fire, in a good way. They reached back-to-back AFC Championship games in their first two seasons together and the future finally looked bright for a franchise built on failure. But just like seeing a waterfall in the desert, it was all a mirage. The Jets crashed and burned while the football world watched, not in amazement, but surprise it hadn’t happened sooner.

Biggest problem I think these Jets teams have is that they built their whole season about just wanting to beat the Pats. Rex Ryan had this huge unhealthy obsession with beating Belichick and hey I'm a Patriots fan I'll say the Jets beat us fair and square it's gonna be dumb arguing back and forth about "oh the Pats cheated" or "the league is against the Pats". While they shined they also shot themselves just wanting to beat the Patriots instead of focusing on the whole year. If they beat Peyton Manning and Tom Brady I wouldn't see it as a conspiracy, it's just the game of football. I still remember Rex Ryan saying "I'll pay someone to kick Belichick in the nuts" or something along those lines, if that isn't unhealthy obsession idk what is.

@Harry Engel The Jets r always in the wrong place at the wrong time. In 1982, Don Shula purposely left the field uncovered giving his Dullfins an unfair advantage. In 1998, the Jets had to play in Denver which had won the year before and was to be Elway's last season. Against the Colts they forgot to show up in the second half. Next year against the Steelers they forget to show up in the first half. You'd think they would have learned something about what it takes to win a championship game and JUST GET IT DONE!

You should have went deeper into that Jets/Giants game in 2011. Rex had bragged about how the Jets went to back-to-back AFC title games whole the Giants went nowhere, but on that day Eli Manning and company crushed the Jets, and as a result the Jets were bounced and forced to watch from home as the Giants went on to win the Super Bowl, bringing another Vince Lombardi trophy to the Big Apple. Plus is it a coincidence that the Jets acquired Tim Tebow just months after the Giants' victory parade? I feel they did because they desperately wanted to divert attention away from the Giants with the buzz of having Tebow on their roster despite never using him. And they destroyed Sanchez' career in the process. All because Rex Ryan couldn't back up what he said about not being the Giants' little brother.

Ask anyone who watched football at the turn of the decade and ask “which team do you remember more, the 2009-2010 Colts, the 2010-2011 Steelers, or the 2009-2011 Jets.” Those two Jets teams were so much fun to watch and such a great story and road. They never made their super bowl but I guarantee you that any fan from that time will tell you that those two teams were the most interesting and fun team to watch those two years. I'll turn 17 in the middle of the 2020 NFL Season, which means I barely remember the last time we made the playoffs. All I remember were the Playoffs itself but just barely. And I did cry after we lost that AFC Title game. Since then, it's been promise and collapse. First the Sanchize went down... then Geno came in and went 8-8, just for that to immediately collapse. Then Fitzpatrick brought us to 10-6, we barely missed the playoffs in my most heartbreaking moment I have ever had. Then we argued with Fitz over a contract all offseason, overpaid him then collapse. Now we have the Samchize. Darnold works the pocket like a genius, but he needs an O-Line. We can turn him into a superstar. We will get our moment.
