KitchenAid stand mixers are absolutely iconic. The design hasn't changed since 1969 and fans are obsessed. The company has reported 25% growth year-over-year in 2020 - the pandemic-induced baking boom surely helped. Bought by Whirlpool Corp. in 1986, here's how the 101-year-old company has helped build successful culinary careers while empowering the home cook too.

In a world of disposable "planned obsolescence" appliances, KitchenAid's success proves consumers still care about quality, and want an appliance that will outlive them.

I was talking to my mom's best friend about how I was outgrowing my mom's kitchenaid and she offered me her bigger one that she never used. I've since refurbished my Nana's Hobart from the 70s and prefer to use that, but there have been times I used all three mixers simultaneously to save time. I'm grateful for these machines and the women I inherited them from.

@welsthe3rd
@welsthe3rd 3 жыл бұрын
It's a status symbol because for 99.9% of home baking you can get by with just a $30 hand mixer (or even just a whisk). Don't IMPULSE BUY a Kitchenaid. I've baked macaroons, biscotti, cakes, breads, pizzas, you name it with a hand mixer and my fists, like my strong italian Grandma 💪😎💪. A Kitchenaid WILL NOT turn you into a baker (contrary to the video). If you think this, it's more likely your Kitchenaid will be just a large expensive decoration on your countertop. Try baking before investing in ANY appliance. Be sure you love baking and that it's the right tool for you. Perhaps the thing you will love to bake is best made only using your hands

In today's disposable world we need to study products that are heavy duty, made to last, relatively simple, and are maintainable and repairable. Then when major appliances quickly become worthless junk due to unnecessarily complex engineering and fallible parts, we can review how to do it right. Don't conclude that KitchenAid knows what they are doing. Their mixers are still great because they don't dare change the popular design passed down to them from their predecessors. But back in the late 1990s KitchenAid made combination oven/microwaves that would fail by turning on and burning people's houses down, sometimes killing the residents if they were home and asleep. That was extremely bad engineering.

@@asadb1990 I'm not saying kitchen aid is bad. But, I hardly see why metal on the outside means its better than bosch. The Kenwood Chef is the equivalent over here. Similar planetary motion, addons and cult of personality. My Mum has had hers for ten years. My Grandmother has had hers for forty. I bought mine two weeks ago and it’s the best £350 I’ve spent. They work, they last forever and there’s something beautifully mechanical about the operation. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but seeing the ingredients become bread dough in front of you is endlessly fascinating.

Nguyening Lifestyles nothing wrong with having FOMO. It’s only an issue when it makes you impulsive and spend more than you have. Or if it encourages wastefulness. You have an Oster that’s working fine. Well, if it ever fails you and a repair isn’t possible you’ll know what to replace it with! Until then enjoy your Oster knowing you made a smart decision not to cast a perfectly good appliance aside because someone on tv had a different brand!

Living in a house, using a furnace or air conditioner, buying an iphone, eating food from a restaurant or grocery store, and having clothes is bad for the environment. The only people who have a right to complain about the climate without being hypocrites are people who live in third world countries.
@Hosz688

@Thee Apollo no one is forced to live in the modern world. People live in climate controlled buildings and buy iPhones because they choose to. Most people choose to live with those things because living without them s uncomfortable and inconvenient. But it is possible to live without those things. There are about a billion people in the world who live without any electricity or iphones.. Of course they do not live that way by choice. They are forced to live a "zero emissions" life.

KitchenAid is not so reliable as it once was. In particular, their models no longer stand up to bread making. For that, you need, at the very least, something like a Bosch or Ankarsrum (to be fair, the Bosch does have a lower price than the Ankarsrum, but there is an even cheaper mixer called the Nutrimill Artiste that is fairly similar, though it appears not to have as developed of a shaft).

They're nice and I like them but let's be real. A) It's not bulletproof.... And actually it's not that well built anymore. They break often, there is even a KZbin that fixes and shows their faults. B) It's NOT the last mixer you'll buy because of this. I had one it wasn't used that often and after 5 years it was problematic. As they say in the video the average age of a Kitchen Aid mixer is 6-10 years old. C) Honestly the design can be improved for better functionality these days. The whisks/attachments could be better. It's hard to get content of the sides when it gets stuck on the sides or bottom. Also very difficult to add ingridients during operations. Saying that i will be looking at getting a mixer within the next few years and will consider Kitchen Aid, but will definitely research alternatives.

As a mechanical engineer I always pay close attention to build quality when I am looking at things I consider buying and this machine ticked all the boxes. This machine reminds me of lathes, milling or boring machines made in the 50s or 60s. Compared to most newer machines they are heavy, sturdy and feel nearly indestructible. Using them just gives you a sense of trust and feels so satisfying. And so does the Kitchen Aid.
