The 2020 MLB season will always be remembered as the MLB coronavirus season, and the team that best personified that was the 2020 Miami Marlins. The 2020 Marlins covid outbreak threatened to cancel the season right at its onset, yet they persisted. Fast forward 60 games, and baseball fans were stunned to see the Marlins clinch playoffs. They even outplayed Chicago, putting together numerous Marlins vs Cubs highlights.
Some topics discussed in this video include the Derek Jeter Marlins takeover and the Marlins firesale (including the Christian Yelich trade). We'll see appearances from all kinds of contributors, including various Sixto Sanchez highlights. Especially huge considering the JT Realmuto trade.
Ultimately for Miami, the Braves Marlins NLDS ended their season, not a shocker considering the Braves Marlins 29-9 debacle, but the team had outperformed all possible expectations. This is a team that leaves behind a unique legacy -- although it's one I hope won't be repeated. Pandemic baseball is not something that should be the norm, even if it made for some great Marlins baseball. I hope you all enjoy this episode of Baseball Bits, a Foolish Baseball production. It was fun to make, and I enjoyed using the Marlins as a lense to review the 2020 MLB season. At least Jeffrey Loria is gone.

Welcome Mahmoud! Yes, the analysis of the stats is one reason I love baseball too. If you haven’t already, check out baseball-reference. You can get just about any stat imaginable and export cvs and excel files for free. If you’re interested in learning a bit more, check out the Ken Burns documentary series called Baseball. It’s a bit long (~20 hours) but it will help you build patients, something you will need a lot of as a Mariners fan. There’s a really good Mariners series too that I can’t think of the name of.

Kind of crazy that now many of these trades actually do seem to have paid off. Stanton one still gave nothing in return beyond salary relief. But Ozuna got the Marlins Sandy and Gallen who turned into Jazz. Those are the 2 pillars this team will be built around going forward and Ozuna is really just a DH with 1 good season in shortened 2020 since then. Realmuto trade still remains to be seen but Sixto looks legit (likely still lost value there). Yelich trade was a complete loss though as none of those guys are even on Marlins and didn't get any return. Overall, salary relief from Stanton and the masterful Ozuna trade could actually help build this team into a contender again in a few years.

I love my Marlins, even if the franchise has done everything it can to alienate us fans. With the exception of the 97 team that was specifically built to contend for a title, the Marlins have always been a team that gets it done in a million little ways and plays beautiful team baseball down the stretch. The 2003 team was all small ball and heart. The 2020 team just found ways to get it done until the Braves series. They’re scrappy and are all heart. Love it

Sandy Alcantara got an ERA of 2.01 and WHIP of 0.95 at time of this comment and about to get a Cy Young. Jazz was arguably one of the top-5 bats in baseball before he got hurt. Those trades are starting to look pretty great (although Gallen is also having an excellent year).

My local team, the Miami Marlins, looked really good this season and I'm so glad you decided to do an analysis of that. I'm now a baseball fan so I really think I'm going to watch the Marlins more, maybe even attend some games if the pandemic gets better. I always heard of how horrible The Marlins are, it just became a joke for us down in South Florida, but this time I thought I think they had something. Let's hope the magic continues for the next season! Also, did anyone catch the video synchronization of the catcher and the narrator's voice of "High and low" at 5:13 ? Hahah cool!

"They traded Nick Anderson for Ryne Stanek and Jesus Sanchez. Highly questionable." Me after watching the 2020 World Series: Nah, I think the Marlins may actually be okay with that one.

Let us now forget about Brandon Leibrant, a pitcher the Marlins signed from the New Jersey Blasters, a team specifically created for a 13-game, 6-weekend series against the Somerset Patriots, a former independent league baseball team in the Atlantic League, who are now the new Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
