I think I was in graduate school when I realized that notions of national identity are a modern concept. More typically people fight for their family or clan.
@Maus_Indahaus
@Maus_Indahaus 3 жыл бұрын
What I'm going to say is not gonna apply in every part of the world, every period or every culture, but human society shows signs of cultural evolution. First they fought for their families and clans/tribes, than for their religion, then for their nation/nationality, then for their ideology. This is not counting any of those fighting for money, of course. Some parts of the world are still stuck in some stages of this revolution, as even today we have people fighting for religion (Just look at Middle East) or even in Europe we have SOME Albanians and Montenegrins/Serbs from Montenegro that still have loyalties to their tribes, or some people in some parts of the world still very loyal to their families. Also the concept of nationality is still relatively recent so it's not gonna just vanish, but fade as time goes by, surviving in some parts of the world longer, and to small extent still felt in parts of the world where ideology is a dominant form of loyalty of people. Right now we are probably on the crossroads as major ideology/ies crumbled (communism), religions are slowly forgotten, so I can't really say what will future people be loyal to. Maybe continents they live on, or the Planets, or Humanity as a whole, or life with all forms of living beings included, or corporations? Hard to tell, but humans have always divided into groups that disliked and fought each other
@bushy9780
@bushy9780 3 жыл бұрын
@@Maus_Indahaus exactly. maybe all of this recent "leaked navy alien footage" is world leaders trying to kickstart the next cultural evolution by "providing proof" of a common enemy. Not to mention movies and other media have been trying to influence this paradigm shift with stuff like "King Kong vs Godzilla" or "Avengers". We're very close to adopting an "All for one planet" mindset, there's just a couple of roadblocks like those you mentioned. This pandemic set us back too, closing borders and blaming/ridiculing other countries.

@Maus_Indahaus

@@priestesslucy3299 Depends, sometimes such line is thin. Religion is a collection of believes in existence of certain supernatural entities that created the world, gave life, control one's 'destiny' etc. Ideology is a belief that a certain form of government should be established or is necessary for existence of people, and usually those that disagree should be eliminated. If the COVID pandemic was a result of biochemical warfare, while succeeding in tactical, short-term objectives (mass infection and economic failures), it has failed in all of its strategic objectives (economic recession and civil unrest (civil war or anarchy, not BLM)) in terms of strategic value. @@edi9892 Having common sense never hurts. I don't really care whether if the COVID strain came out of Wuhan or Fort Detrick, what only matters is the data about the known cases, methods of infection, spread pattern/speed and mortality rate. It is tragic for anyone to die, but in a bigger picture the number of deaths is relatively small. Even with the possible falsified cases around the world, data has shown that mortality rate always is ~3% on average, with variables such as healthcare and medical supplies. However the strain can evolve, either increased infection rate or mortality rate, but never combined or group with other viruses. I get this a lot, and no, it is not compatible with the Ebola strain or any known dangerous viruses at all. Your point is right. COVID-19 in itself is not that deadly for humans, it's deadly because of the consequences it leaves. Fun fact: Do you know that Rabies has the highest mortality rate of all of disease in the world, of 99.999%? Once the first symptoms are exhibited, death is inevitable. There are only 29 known survivors, most of them have sequelae (the side effects of the disease left on the body after treatment) from mild to severe.

@@sharkronical , no, the documentary literally equated a modern nation middle eastern nation, wich may lay claim to be some kind of inheritor/successor nation to one of the ancient middle eastern empires, with the entirity of the ancient empire. The descriptions was in the same veine as if I was to treat "Austria" as an valid all encompassing term that can be savely equated with the entirity of the Holy Roman Empire at it's largest extension. And it would be the same as treating "Itally" as a valid all encompassing term that can be savely equated with the entirity of the actual Roman Empire. Modern nations can obviously trace their descendence back to historical Kingdoms, Empires and other kinds of territories, but equating them as one and the same is demonstrably wrong and suggests either a poor understanding of history, or alterior motives. And as Linfamy perfectly illustrated in this video, it is absolutely feasable to summarise the differenciate between the modern Nation of Japan and feudal Japan, as far as it is functionally relevant to the topic at hand, in an video like this.

A lot of people in the "military history world" point out that the two mongol invasions drastically changed the warfare in Japan. This is based on two wrong hypothesis, namely that the Japanese warriors of the period fought in arranged duels between peers while shouting their names and heritage (which is incorrect and based on epic tales 200 years older), and that both invasion brought intensive challenges for the Japanese samurai (again incorrect because both invasions hardly succedeed in securing a foothold in Kyushu, let alone the entirity of Japan and lasted combined less than a year) as they were barely saved by the kamikaze. The truth is that the invasions kickstarted the fall of the Hojo regency and the Kamakura Shogunate, which will lead to a period of civil war that lasted a good amount of the 14th century, the Nanbokucho jidai. While not as long nor as intense as the more famous Sengoku period, the Nanbokucho jidai with the Kenmu restoration, the rise of the Ashikaga and the conflict within the new shogunate brought all the innovations in terms of arms, armors and tactics that are usually associated with the conflicts with the Yuan dynasty. It is good that this video address this topic in a way by bringing in the real effects of the mongol invasions on the Japanese society and government of the period, good job!!
@lucanic4328
@lucanic4328 3 жыл бұрын
@CK Lim Well that may have played a role as well, but to be fair I think that it was the lack of land distrubutions and rewards after the two invasions plus the efforts to prevent a third one that deaden the bound between the Shogunate and its subordinate. The fundamental tie between the Shogunate and its vassal, which was that of reward and land after the call to arms, was broken as there were no lands to acquire or conquer. Therefore when Go Daigo lead his uprise he had succesful ground due to dissatisfaction of many Samurai under the Hojo.

Well, when they pray, obviously it has to be addressed to a certain kami, or just any kami Will do. The point is, we trace back from the result to the cause. It was typhoon, so obviously it was the work of "Kaze no Kami" or Kami of the Wind, or maybe Kami of the Rain, Thunder also contributed. The death of Khan, Kami of Death, duh. So to any priests out there, praying to Kami of Fire, Kami of Stone, Kami of Iron, etc, is obviously the meh ones. Priests praying for general Kamis, basically any Kami Will do, is considered so so, in helping the country. Those who exactly asked for Kami of Wind, Rain, Thunder, got the credits for the Typhoon. Those who prayed to Kami of Death, Rebellion, Assassination, maybe also Plague (since the information is sea apart, they won't know what killed Khan until months or even years after) get the credits for killing the Khan. Fire is obviously cool in nature and as powerful element, but obviously they didn't die because of fire, which means, Kami of Fire was just chilling, not working, so those who prayed to Kami of Fire were meh. Now apply this logic to know which priests is the talented ones.

Honestly the Mongols would have had more success if they just got together a massive horde of peasants and started building a land bridge by collecting dirt and stone inland, then dumping it in the ocean making a land bridge to Japan. They had the manpower to do it. If the Mongols try to fight a battle that their Calvary can't really be utilized they are shooting themselves in the foot.

The myths of typhoons were created by Japanese Communists after ww2. They wanted to make the Japanese communist, so they tried to erase the history, culture, and ethnicity. From the Mongolian history book "Yuanshi" compiled by the Mongolian scholar Song Ren (1310-1381) and the Korean history book "Goryeosa" compiled by the Korean scholar Chung Jinyuki (1396-1478). Japan heard information about Mongolia from a monk in the South Song dynasty. The Mongolian army encountered a typhoon after its withdrawal. The Mongolian army was severely damaged by the fierce battle with the Japanese army, and the army was exhausted and evacuated to the ship. It was The Mongolian army held a military congress at the base.Mongolian army marshal Kudung said. "Even if a small number of soldiers fight stubbornly without regard to their abilities, they will end up being prisoners of war in front of a large number of troops.Using exhausted soldiers and facing the ever-increasing enemy forces is not a perfect solution. We should withdraw. "The army will withdraw. As the Mongolian army forced a nighttime withdrawal and encountered a storm at sea, many warships touched the cliffs and sank, causing much damage. October 1274. The number of sailors is unknown. In the war, the Japanese army continued to win, and the Mongolian army continued to lose. The war situation of the Mongolian army was unfavorable and the rout continued.The Mongolian army was hit by a typhoon.However, many Mongolian troops were not damaged by the typhoon.Therefore, the war continued even after the typhoon. The Mongolian warships built in Korea were tough. The Japanese army annihilated more than 100,000 Mongolian troops and Mongolian warships. The Japanese troops captured 20,000 to 30,000 Mongolian soldiers. From the history book of Mongolian scholar Zheng Si-xiao (1241-1318). "The typhoon destroyed the ships.Only 400 ships remained.200,000 Mongolian soldiers were left behind, they were killed by the Japanese. After the war, the Japanese threat theory was formed in Mongolia and China. Mongolia imported katana from Japan because the war drew attention to katana's reputation. Mongolian cavalry in the 1960s became mercenaries and used guns and katana on the battlefield. From the history book Xīn shǐ of Mongolian scholar Zheng Si-xiao (1241-1318)."The Japanese are brutal and not afraid of death. Even if ten Japanese people encounter 100 enemies, they will fight against them. If they don't win, they all fight until they die.If they do not die in the war, they will be killed by the king's hand when they return.Japanese women are also very temperamental and should not be attacked.katana is extremely sharp. Mongolian scholar Wang Yun (1228-1304)"Japanese soldiers are equipped with bows, katana, and armor.There was no spear. The cavalry are united.katana is long and extremely sharp. All the soldiers are brave and do not seem to be afraid of death. " It is written that the samurai were fighting in groups instead of single combat. The courageousness of the Japanese soldiers and the difficulty of invading the sea due to the defeat of the Mongol invasion also served as a deterrent to suppress the conquest of Japan by the later dynasties. The Ming dynasty's debate on Japan after the Yuan dynasty was discussed three times in total at Hongwu Emperor, Yongle Emperor, and Jia-jing-di Emperor. Hongwu Emperor (1328-1398) demanded that the Japanese prince submit to the Ming dynasty and suppress Japanese pirates. However, the prince refused to accept Hongwu Emperor's request by sending a reply saying that if the Ming army invaded Japan, he would counter it. Hongwu Emperor was furious at this reply, but he said he had stopped conquering Japan because of the defeat of Kublai's invasion of Japan.

In the last few decades of the 20th century and into the present, Japan was again invaded by Mongolians, who came to dominate the Japanese national sport of sumo wrestling. Mongolians are about 7% of all professional sumo but about one third of the sumo in the top division, and five of the last six Yokozuna have been Mongolian by birth.
