What do the ancient Mongols have to do with how we live our lives today?
It turns out that the Mongol empire, like many empires before and after them, developed new social, economic, and political systems. And while empires are far from perfect, they also laid the groundwork for creating the globalized, interconnected world we now live in. In this episode, we explain what empires are and how they’ve created big changes throughout modern world history.

Here I sit now, as an adult having come full circle... having flash backs of a simpler time before Covid and the workforce. John talking about the Mongols during my AP world history class will forever be ingrained in my person.

Very even handed take on the brutal Mongol Empire. Now let's see if you do this with the British Empire...

I just started this series today and noticed that the fourth video in this playlist is unavailable for me. What happened? Did it get taken down or maybe since I am Canadian it doesn't allow me to watch it? I know for some other channels they only allow Americans to watch it.

One of the episodes had an error and needed to be taken down and reuploaded, the video has been deleted and it's not visible to anyone so don't worry you're not missing anything!

the video doesn't name the lasting political or cultural impacts of the Mongols because there were none. what area follows the Mongol legal, political or economic system? None! the Mongols "empire" was a predatory and parasitic enterprise from the start. the Mongols had no interest in their subjugated populations except as a source of revenue. they had nothing to offer people but extermination or subjugation. there was no common denominator amongst the conquered nations only subjugation to foreign invaders. nomadic groups have never produce individuals like Archimedes, Ptolemy, Al-Khwarizmi, Aristotle, Copernicus, Omar Khayyam, da Vinci, Pasteur, Mozart or Tesla. Central Asia was an educational dead zone and pretty much still is. the Mongols declared war primarily on the civilian population of Eurasia. they murdered millions of unarmed men, women and children. videos like this ignore this fact and pretend whatever evil the Mongols did was overshadowed by all the benefits. the Mongols didn't care if a single scientific or tech idea was ever exchanged, they were bandits, wreckers and looters. for the next video they should talk about all the benefits the Nazis left as a legacy for humanity! right?
