The new king of Major League Soccer, New York City FC have not had a home since its existence in 2013. The team is partially owned by the Yankees that have a 20% ownership stake on the franchise. This video briefly details how the Randy Levine led baseball franchise, a parking garage, and local corporate partners are preventing the construction of a major league soccer stadium in a south Bronx neighborhood that would greatly boost its economic state.
The beginning of the video is for those who aren't familiar with NYCFC and how they became champions. Details on the stadium dispute starts at the 2:52 mark.

This is a perfect reason as to why I did not become a Nycfc fan from the start. They’ll always be the unwanted stepchild and be second in line while owned by the Yankees. You’re telling me the globally recognized New York Yankees cannot build a stadium in New York? The New York Islanders removed themselves from an iron clad 30 year contract in Brooklyn and built their stadium in Elmont all while NYCFC ownership sat there doing nothing. I feel for you nycfc fans, you deserve better but it’s hard to say things like this weren’t expected.

@@scooter21ba what’s not to get? It’s not only about the stadium of course. Everything about the club from its inception felt like it was second in line in the eyes of ownership. I know about falling in love with a club all too well. I was a cosmos fan during their reboot (bad stadium, no chance of promotion, etc.) I fell in love because of the people and the players and it was nice to know that ownership did all they could to elevate the club despite obstacles they couldn’t overcome. Nycfc is owned by two of the most recognizable clubs in the world and aside from their recent success, it genuinely does not appear that way. To be clear, the reason that I’m not an NYCFC fan isn’t because of their stadium, its largely geographical and knowing how they’d be the un-loved stepchild in the eyes of ownership.

Has it was mentioned Yankes only have a 20% stake in the NYCFC club, the remaining 80 belong to the Holding company (City Football group) that have either full control or important %s over clubs like Manchester City(UK), Girona fc(Spain)(to name 2). After i saw the documentary i think they aimed to keep the stadium in the neighborhood of Yankees stadium but has no progress been visible that will make them change of area to built it.

It sucks when everything get's politicized. They proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they deserve a soccer specific stadium. Look at all the other clubs in MLS and the USL that get a stadium. It reinvigorates those communities. Businesses piggy-back off the inflow of the soccer community. Stores, restaurants, pubs, etc. If that South Bronx community board can't see that then they are responsible for letting that community wither away. City & Yankees could’ve bought out the parking garage owners but didn’t because they said the owners was head cracking with the buyout number. These goliaths (City Football Group & Yankees) have the money but they want welfare. The same welfare they gave to the Mets and Yankees for those “new & modern” baseball stadiums. Building these stadiums/fields/ arenas are way more times likely built to the detriment of the state, city and communities they’re built in. I like NYCfc. Reading the news of them starting that afternoon of May 21st 2013 felt like a early birthday gift for me and I’m proud the club are champions but not going to let that gleefulness blind me to the fact the NYCfc stadium needs to come from the teams owners and not from us New Yorkers. If ownership threatens to leave, then let them. That’ll be a loss for City Football Group & a loss for the MLS.

The answer is Willets pt. Just right in front of Citi Field. I know it's a stretch because of the Yankees/Mets rivalry, but NYCFC aint no stranger to playing games at Citi Field, so basically there is some established relationship with the team. The area located right in front of Citi Field is vastly huge and most of those car repair businesses have been scrapped off. That's about the best place to llace a stadium at this point + it's near to the 7 train so its easy for people to travel there + parking located in mets citi field, unless nycfc makes their own parking lot

Outsider here, specifically from the opposite coast. I'm very confused about how the hell there would be any brand new stadium built without displacing or inconveniencing everyone who lives in the area, with how dense the Bronx and Queens seem to be. Then again, on the west coast, no one gives up their land even though there are huge parcels.

Part of the original plan of the 25,000 seat stadium was also to include new affordable housing. As for the land at willets point in queens, they'll turn a current junkyard into a stadium, so if any residents get displaced it shouldn't be a large number.

True New Yorkers will know the BX ain’t the right borough for an nycfc stadium it doesn’t suit it. Either bk or queens. Queens is known as “The World’s Borough” and NYC is “the capital of the world” it would just make sense for the stadium to be in Flushing Queens. Queens has so much love for Footy it would be right at home, more people would fill up the stadium, ain’t no body want to go to the bx and pay toll.

While I think the Gal elevator/parking garage site is the most practical and probable place there's another site in the Bronx to the southeast that is better. Plans were going to include a hospital and a new middle/high school as well as affordable housing. Also I think Icahn stadium would be a great place for a B team to play. If NYCFC continues to develop kids who can go overseas it cements their perception as the Premier club in the US and Canada.

I dont see a move to a new soccer specific stadium anytime soon. What is wrong with building their new stadium right next to yankee stadium? They have one big baseball stadium and a football stadium right next to it. They can at least look into it. Queens flushing meadows is another big option, but this will have a negative impact in their Bronx based fans. Queens might have the space, but they will need to do a good job promoting the team in a new area. NYCFC deserves a SSS and I hope they build it as soon as possible.

That aside stadiums DO NOT create economic opportunities, and speak from experience here in Orlando where the Orlando City stadium (now Exploria stadium) has done nothing beneficial for the community e.g. Paramorre.
