How The Pokewalker Elevates The Johto Region in Heartgold and Soulsilver

For me, Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver are everything because of the Pokewalker. I almost passed on the games growing up but saw a friend playing with it and immediately got roped back and I've never looked back! My personal favorites I caught on it were Kangaskhan and Elekid, really cool mons to be getting right at the beginning of the game. It's not only fun though, it's mechanically genius too- fixing this big problem Gold and Silver originally had. It's a masterpiece device that works for everyone. I love the Pokewalker so much.

@@droomish1 one of my friends swore it worked when he put it on a pendulum but it didnt work for me so I was also just shaking it and taking it everywhere I went. (I lost it eventually but then by sheer coincidence it turned out a friend from a different neighborhood found it and when I mentioned I had lost mine, he gave it back to me. and it was actually the one I lost!!)

Wasn't the Pokewalker also one of the most accurate pedometers at the time? I still use my Pokewalker for counting my steps and wish Nintendo would make another Pokewalker clone for the Switch, they made one for the Wii U of all consoles! The switch is already portable, so the lack of a Pokewalker for the switch is criminal!

If they just made a modern sprite based game which included all the best bits of Japan (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn & Sinnoh) and added maybe a new region and some bonus areas and I would be happy. Think Platinum, Fire Red, HG & Emerald combined with fresh sprites and world design. All the best bits from each game (contests, following Pokémon etc). Add in some selected new pokemon that would fit (like Golisopod) and I would play it for the next 20 years.

@@TheFirstCurse1 When I say "Best Bits" I refer to mechanics and gameplay, like gym challenges, contests, legendaries, following Pokémon, night and day cycle. In terms of regions... all the regions mentioned would be available in full, all 4 Japanese regions, and perhaps a new one in central Japan. Could travel between regions after getting through the intro perhaps, by boat, train etc

It was the best of the 2D games and had some great stuff too. But then the second paragraph threw me off again. It's a stupid idea to just have Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova all in 1 game. There's no point. It'd be a mess.

I would personally like fully updated sprites that move (like gen V) and have character, but are even better quality than the gen 5 ones... Truly modern style sprites... Same applies to the overworld, use sprite style and top down, but have improved pixel count, shading etc than the older games.

Oh, man, the memories! I bought the HGSS games for Christmas, to aid me in completing the NatDex in B2W2, and because I really wanted to experience Johto. I remember walking around with that thing to get a Snorunt, because it was the last non-mythical I needed. Fun times.

Well, I should have the final route on my Pokéwalker unlocked soon. Munchlax here I come. In the meantime, I have a _lot_ of Rare Candies and PP Ups. The real blessing for me though, with no friends to trade with, was that you can find Dive Balls in the Pokéwalker, the only way to obtain them in HG/SS. Lugia's aesthetic I just wouldn't be right if I hadn't caught it in a Dive Ball. It took like 40 balls, at 1hp, asleep, and countless steps walked, but it was worth it. Fun fact, if you obtain a secondhand Pokéwalker, despite the Watts being reset to zero when you sync it with your game, any unlocked routes will permanently remain unlocked, so you might not need 100,000 Watts for the final route. I'm not sure whether this applies to special distribution routes or not.

Heya, Jason! Pokewalker superfan here. If you want to get the pokewalker to work while on a wheelchair, it depends on if it's an old-school arm based one, or a new-age motorised one. If the former, there's attachments you can get to put it on your arm like a watch, and that will still track your steps! If it's the latter, you could probably still just stick it in your pocket, and the vibrations of it moving would get it working! Hope this helps even a tiny bit!

The safari zone is after gym 6 and who’s going to even have the pokewalker to use now a days? You shouldn’t need an external device to fully experience the gameplay. Those 40 extra lines should’ve been added to the main game. Johto is still the worst region by far.

Galar is the worst region followed by Kanto. Johto is the third worst. It's design and layout is great but it has huge problems with it's bad Pokemon layouts and horrible level curve. I'd still play Johto any day over Kanto or Galar though.

I don’t know which aka to you mean but Fire Red and Leaf Green is better then Johto by a long shot. I haven’t played gen 8 yet. Kanto has an amazing design and 0 problems throughout its gameplay. It has good mons with spread out verity. You encounter team Rocket throughout the whole game. Even if you don’t encounter them people are mentioning them, expanding the world. Johto is the only region with extremely low levels, a severe lack of trainers, no items, a massive Rocket section shoved in to the end of the game with only one encounter beforehand, all late game gyms are back to back, and the early game is disgusting with the flying type gym first and the big gym having base 80 U-Turn. The worst experience playing a Pokémon game and disappointing since none of these issues are rectified in the remakes. Very clear what style the developers were trying to lock in from the first 3 gens. They’re all very different in some way.

Its interesting that HGSS is criticized for its pokemon variety but that could easily be fixed by just… engaging with its mechanics. There are some notable exceptions that remain post-game only, like sneasel and houndour, but the vast majority of pokemon like all the baby forms, misdreavus, murkrow, slugma, and even Larvitar are completely obtainable before the Johto elite 4. Is the nuzlocke mindset just preventing people from changing up their playstyle?
