Mix of awful play calling and bad ball placement by Mitch. We did very little to establish a deep threat. When there’s no deep threat they can shutdown the run which kills an offense. I’m not sure if it’s more that Mitch isn’t up to it (he had Pickens wide open for an easy TD that he just threw away) or if Canada is that bad.

Credit to the Steelers defense for slowing down the Bengals high powered offense. The one thing about Burrow that makes him dangerous imo is his ability to keep throwing with confidence despite his performance. He doesn’t bat an eye & will sling it like he’s tossed 5 TDs when in reality he’s got 2 picks. He looked really rusty out there & made some poor decisions. Just wasn’t reading the coverages correctly & I blame part of that to the lack of preseason reps he got (little to none). When these two teams meet again in week 10 it’ll be even more intense.

*Canada maybe the worst OC in NFL the last 12 years. And the rookie QB is one of the better QBs drafted in last 4 drafts along with Herbert & Burrow. I’ll take the Pitt product over any of the 2021 class and over Tua or Murray. But Pickett needs a new OC. He would operate Brees like with a Sean Payton disciple. Can’t go wrong with a Andy Reid coach either. But the Dolphins, Colts, Rams, 49ers, and Eagles schemes would best fit Kenny Pickett. He is a timing and rhythm passer but has that sneaky, elusive, athletic mobility to keep plays alive and make adlib off-script plays. Mahomes and Allen are the best in the bizz and he not on that level but he is better than 90% of the NFL. However he is super accurate and will threaten the 70% completion rate in seasons. But what makes Pickett the next great QB, is his “Natural Feel” for the game and “Mental Makeup” He studies the game like none other and competes with the best of them. Has that it factor and clutch gene to never lose. I think after hours and hours of study, that QB Pickett will be a Top10 QB for many years to come and join that list within the next 2 or 3 years*

I feel like you should’ve done a better job of pointing out that on the Ahkello Witherspoon pick, that Cinci had a TE split out wide with a safety over him which is a great man coverage indicator, which helped with the disguising, heck just Witherspoon being in the slot presnap screams man coverage... great overall video though.

How to slow down Joe Burrow? Take away two weeks in critical camp time, have him not have a lot of meaningful reps with his new offensive line, and then pressure the crap out of him. See if that works down the road. (Hint: Nope.)

That’s what more defenses should do. Pressure the crap out of offenses. Not saying they should be blitzing six every time, but mix it up, send anywhere from 3-6, mix up the coverages, make the QB hesitate.
