@nightryder164 жыл бұрын
Yep sure do.. What I noticed changed alot is that in recent years we would try to change from week to week depending on the team.. And I believe it was to confusing and too much for the players and led to communication break downs.. Now they have found a system that works interchangeable with any team and instead of making drastic changes, they just tweak few things here and there.. So from week to week the plan stays for the most part the same and the execution gets polished week in week out. Also we have gotten alot better at disguising what we are doing which puts QBs under pressure even before the ball is snapped.

I got so frustrated during Lebeaus last few years in Pit. He never could get his defense to stop the Zone Blocking scheme running attacks. At least Keith Butler doesnt make draft picks wait years to start, and Butler, unlike Lebeau, gets his Dline to pass rush more frequently rather than just always use them as decoys
@Panyc3334 жыл бұрын
I think people were referring to the secondary giving up the deep ball. Still very much a point of concern. Minkah was a great get to lean them out of that conversation for the most part but there are still concerns in that secondary.

steelers play rush defense like they are running backs by finding gaps on the opposing teams offensive. it's truly impressive.
@zachlee79454 жыл бұрын
Tampa gives away fewer yards per carry than them. The only reason their totals are so low is cos they've been rushed on way less than any other defence
@ggg212014 жыл бұрын
@@zachlee7945 They're rushed less because opposing teams are playing from behind. That has it's own issues for run defense. You'll notice that most of the rush yards the Steelers have given up have come off long runs (Alex alluded to it in the video). A lot of those long run yards have come from draw plays on passing downs trying to catch up in the game against the Steelers nickel defense. That's not to say long runs are not important to run defense, but when the Steelers are expecting run they are very good at stopping it. It's why Alex mentioned adjusted line yards which puts less value on yards gained from long runs. It puts more emphasis on how much the front seven can dominate the line of scrimmage.
@Flickaflackafly4 жыл бұрын

@@ggg21201 Absolutely. We end up going to Tampa 2 or the prevent and it screws the pooch. We need to stay 5 on the line. Tomlin's got the Tampa 2 on the brain since he was a coach with Tampa in their last Superbowl win. We need to get that crummy defense out of his head with an exorcist.

He is using the 2002 Bucs playbook but keeping THE STEELERS 90'S 3-4 LOOK... This is a cover 2 defense... The 02 Bucs blitzed their nickel back RONDE BARBER all the time and then they would famously drop him back into a zone dog to take a away crossing routes and check downs. Well, the inability to stop big plays is kind of the deal you get when you get Minkah Fitzpatrick. He's so aggressive in jumping routes he thinks he sees coming that this kind of happens sometimes. But this is just a problem in the first few weeks, until he figured out what the other teams will do in which situation. He'll crush offenses in the second half of the season.

Communication in the secondary/ minor details and getting Minkah Fitzpatrick to actually tackle are our major weaknesses on defense. I was a huge fan of the 49ers defense in 2011-2013. It reminded me of the 2000s steelers D. Justin Smith was a key cog to that Defense, he needed 2 linemen to block him. Aldon smith beside him was a wrecking ball, and they had Bowman and Patrick Willis in the middle. That was a nasty front 7.
@effend4464 жыл бұрын
And if I recall, the 49ers demolished teams back in the 80's using the 3-4 alignment. Everyone talks about Bill Walsh's innovative offense, and rightfully so. But George Seifert's defensive units were very underrated.
@brianp66824 жыл бұрын
The way to beat Blitzburgh is with 2 TE sets. If your 2 TEs are very capable pass catchers, the LBs on the edge are forced to respect them and slow down or the Steeler defense will get eaten alive. This is why Bill Belichick has been bananas about finding great TEs in New England. Belichick knows the super bowl probably goes thru the Steelers every year, so he is always trying to upgrade at TE. This is why Belichick had Gronk and Aaron Hernandez. That's how to beat Pittsburgh. The Titans are actually building to beat the Steelers as they have 2 up and coming TEs in Jonnu Smith and Anthony Firkser. I would bet the Titans beat the Steelers this week because the Titans have the personnel to stop the Blitzburgh defense. The Steelers cannot go after Tannehill because it would mean Smith and Firkser are gonna run free all day and eat them alive.

This is similar to how Pittsburgh destroyed Houston's Run & Shoot offense & basically ended that trend - Rod Woodson would like up over one of the slot receivers and pound Warren Moon into dust over the course of a game.

Losing Mike Hilton was a huge hit to this team this year... Devin bush not being the same after injury has hurt! Stephon tuitt blowing his knee out and his brother getting killed in a hit and run has taken him out for the season.. Add that with a few other injuries here and there with normal roster turnover, coupled with a bad offense that keeps them on the field too long and you get a rough year! All that being said, they still lead the league in sacks for the 5th year in a row! Blitzburgh! Baby!
