@@dadsonworldwide3238 Paraag Marathe has been regarded as a financial wizard around the league for the last few years. we went from being laughed at, because of the contracts we had to give out, to people being surprised at how much money we had pre-Covid. the only reason Warner hasnt re-signed already is because the salary cap was gutted. wait until after this season. the new TV deal kicks in, and the salary cap is going to sky rocket. plenty of room for a Bosa, Warner, Samuel, and Aiyuk extensions. also dont forget, Jimmy's contract is off the books after this season. we also went from being like 20 million over the cap, to somehow having about 17 million to spend. i think Paraag is doing a fine job managing the financials. If you want to look at a team that will be financial trouble soon is probably Arizona. Kyler is gonna want a new contract soon. Also a rookie QB deal (Trey Lance) does wonders for opening up cap space

I know what realy happened there its not worth the time. Look matt was giving everything with Atlanta something They over paid setting the entire market ever contract highest ever to nick bosa. Tbe highest recording setting pay to 34 yr old left tackle trent . This is what happened in Atlanta you cant over pay ever free agent and spend future resources like that to get you to just the playoffs. Its different when your roster won you a superbowl and then your keeping them together for yrs to have a dynasty But Kyle and lynch is like 29 -34 and spending up 3 yrs of draft picks . The niners really changed their defense this year. The superbowl year they ran a lot of cover 3 due to Richard Sherman and the best pash rush in the league. However, this year with Sherman and the best pass rush out with injuries the niners played a lot more man coverage with some press too. It looked like they relied on Jason Verret to cover the star receiver one on one. Jason Verret was crucial since he allow more blitzs by the niners while also generated more pressure. Now, you can even see a big change in philosophy of the niners defense as they rely more on man coverage and even draft Ambry Thomas and Deommodore Lenoir who played excellent press man coverage.

I think one of the best plays Warner ever made was the interception against Mahomes in the Super Bowl. He knew that the Chiefs love deep curls on 3rd and long, Hill is Mahomes’s favorite receiver on deep curls, and Mahomes loves to bait linebackers and safeties by running to a spot, getting them out of his passing lane, and throwing where they were. Warner didn’t bite at all, which takes a lot of discipline in such a crucial spot

Thanks for another great breakdown Alex. You're right that Fred Warner can cover basically anything on the field, both in the run and pass game. He's arguably the most physically talented linebacker due to that. He can absolutely make plays that other LBs physically can't. You can see that in how quickly he can flip his hips when transitioning from the backpedal to running with a receiver. Heck, those skills would be elite in a cornerback. I've never seen a linebacker do it that well before. But where his prowess in games comes from is film study. He studies and understands film better than some of the QBs he's going against. Fred's physical but also mental skills and study habits are best in the NFL. You showed the results of that well on film. Aaron Rogers acknowledged that to Fred Warner when they played in 2020.
@AlexRollinsNFL3 жыл бұрын
Thanks LE! Yes, it just goes to show how important film study is. Not that Fred is deficient in any physical category, but for anybody who knows what's coming before it happens, you don't have to be THAT physically talented. It's really the best skill there is to have

Inject this video into my veins. It's been fun watching the 49ers transition from having backers like Willis/Bowman to Warner over the past decade and the evolution of the whole defense. Part of what makes football so fun, one year you think they have it figured out (2011, 3-4 defense with massive front 7) and a few years later the defense's identity is completely different but just as dominant.

@@AlexRollinsNFL I was listening to Simms on a Niners podcast the other day, speculating that part of Shanahan's attraction to Lance is what he can do to open up the inside run game. Simms sees DBs selling out between the numbers to defend against Garoppolo, who struggles to throw outside and deep. If Lance can be a genuine threat to take the lid off of defenses, DBs will have to play honest in coverage, opening up the second level if a guy like Gallman or Sermon can climb to it. Lance himself doesn't even need to carry the ball, in order to improve an already formidable run scheme. Food for thought.

Question : Is Fred Warner the key to the 49ers being able to shut down the wide zone (heavy play action) offense? Or maybe more generic, is elite LB play the key to defending the wide zone offense? Because (when healthy) the 49ers have absolutely dominated those offenses (Rams, Packers, and Vikings) the past few seasons. Playing the Wide 9 defense seems to make running outside the numbers difficult. So you’ll have to attack the inside run, and because the wide 9 is spaced out, it puts a lot of pressure on the interior D-Lineman to stop the run. Which is difficult, but it seems to work because of Fred Warner’s uncanny ability to read the offense (and also his elite coverage skills). He’s seemingly able to play the run very well, while also never selling out on the run and never biting on the play action (and vacating his coverage duties). *Qualifier - I got into football recently and admittedly don’t know very much, so I could just be completely off. But I’d be curious about your thoughts, even if I’m way off and I look dumb. Lol
@AlexRollinsNFL3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question, it's certainly a key factor. If you look up The Dream Team Eagles, the wide 9 is one of the main reasons why they had such limited success on defense. Warner is one of the best I've ever seen at diagnosing run vs pass, he never overcommits to one or the other which helps him play both aspects on defense. The 49ers versatility at safety is important as well
@zachf7483 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering. Yea, I think the 49ers safety combo of Ward and Tartt is really, really good. And underrated. I think they get overlooked because of how they are used. If you’re not racking up interceptions / fumbles / sacks it’s easy to get overlooked. But their coverage skills are where they make their impact, and which is just as important (especially Ward).

Warner played LB/Safety hybrid at BYU before being drafted to SF...which explains why Warner is able to flip his hips and run with guys...all you have to do is watch the SB against the Chiefs...he got his INT dropping into the middle against T. Hill of all people.

I'm really hoping Saleh can mold Sherwood and/or Nasirildeen into something akin to Warner for the Jets

what do you mean then it was Bowman? He was trash after Willis retired(ACL injury), Borland would be a better fit.

@@seanmichaeltan5184 Against Atlanta? yes, however he was never more popular then Bowman, the timeline went 2013 Bowman tears ACL, 2014 Willis retires, 2015 Bowman comes back and dominates, 2016 reinjures himself and was on the Raiders in 2017.

Why does it feel like all the elite LBs in football aren’t day 1 picks? (Edge rushers excluded)

As a Giants fan, I take this video both as indictment of Warner's greatness, and Garrett's unimaginative play-calling and outdated philosophy.
