Sam Wurdemann I'm expecting -The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild -Super Mario Switch (I love how people named it like we named BotW, Zelda Wii U) -Pikmin 4 -Splatoon Remastered -Mario Kart 8 Remastered -Super Smash Bros. 4 (Considering the Switch is a hybrid, they could advertise the combination of the Wii U and 3DS stages as well as maybe some new characters *cough* IceClimbers *cough*). And this is purely first party, maybe the Skyrim Remaster will come to the Switch (It comes out next week so it could get optimized for it if they want to), maybe Final Fantasy XV, maybe a new IP from Nintendo? Who knows, but this is looking like a potential launch lineup.

Zapazoid well, that probably because we have no real estimate on how good the switch's battery life is in the first place. I'd like to think it's probably closer to the 3ds as opposed to the wii u, but yeah, portability is this systems most crucial selling point so if the console port itself is the charging station as opposed to plugging it into the wall like the wii u, that might be a bit of a setback and limit some of the systems overall mobility. I'm honestly just hoping the screen has some sort of a portable charging station or charger that connects directly to the screen. but, again, only time will tell

Well considering the Wii U Pro Controller lasts like 60 hours, I think those Joy-Cons aren't that noticable for the battery life. On the other hand, using them as power banks could be a smart move. But Nintendo said it's mainly a home console so 3-4 hours are great for its size and power.

Ugh, I hate when people judge a game based on its graphics. After 16 years, I finally got my dad to play a Pokemon game (that wasn't fucking GO.) it was Platinum. After a month of saying he enjoyed it, yet rarely every playing it, the Sun and Moon demo came out. He played it then ditched Platinum, got Pokemon Y, then told me the reason he liked Y more was because the graphics were better. That hurt my soul.

I find that more difficult to believe honestly, because Sony and Microsoft are competing in different arenas from Nintendo and even each other. Sony wants Playstation to be your high-spec VR rig and Microsoft wants Xbox to be your PC/entertainment center on your TV. Nintendo is aiming for portable, social, local multiplayer gaming. Sony had a go at the whole handheld/console concept with the PSP and Vita/PS3 connectivity but it ultimately failed, in my opinion because they failed to recognize what made a portable system good was games made for mobile play, short bursts of gaming, and focused too much on "console quality" games. The Vita/PS3 connection was a step in the right direction, but having to own both systems to achieve it and needing them to be properly synced meant that it was clunky and pretty unrealistic for most gamers on a budget, so the feature was just a plus for the few who could afford it. Switch, however, bypasses these issues. Nintendo knows the handheld market, and they pride themselves on excellent local-multiplayer party games. When you take a console with the power for full-depth console and local multiplayer games and make it both portable and dockable with a seamless transition, you have something that will be hard to dismiss out of hand. Now, Nintendo can still mess this up royally if performance or battery life is sub-par, or if the features we had expected it to have turn out to be half-baked. Only time will tell, but I don't think this is a concept that's ever been tackled this way, and I have my doubts Sony or Microsoft will ever have the same grasp on the handheld market without pulling some big strings and taking some big risks.

The battery life is the biggest concern right now, I am okay with 3 hours (I really don't play more than 1 and a half hours), as long as the thingy can be charged with a cable (pretty sure it will). Judging by the size though, I would say it will last around 4 and a half hours instead of just 3, but that's just my estimation though... Also, pretty sure Nintendo will be selling an expanded battery thing that will make it last for an extra 2 hours

I never had any serious interest in non-nintendo consoles, and Switch is a good example as to why. My first console was the Sega Saturn, fml. It's the fact that the new chip is said by NVidia to be made of the same stuff that's in their "top graphics cards" which makes me think Pascal and turns out the new Tegra Parker series contains Pascal! Btw Pascal is the reason that a GTX 1080 can put out just over the same amount of power as a Maxwell architecture Titan X which costs nearly twice the price. So that kind of efficiency is brilliant for a hybrid like the Switch!

I know I'm planning on getting it in the hope of gaining access to Super Metroid, Metroid: Fusion, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and possibly a few other older games (especially those not on 3DS), not to mention that I am curious about the HD remakes of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker (albeit those I can live without if needed). While I totally agree that consoles should focus on the gaming experience over graphics, you have to understand that just a couple generations ago, better graphics also meant new ways to play. The jump from 2D to 3D graphics opened up a whole new set video game genres that just could not exist in the same way before. Back then, improving the power of consoles meant that developers could do more without worrying about the limitations of the devices they developed for. So, while the benefits of improving graphics has diminished significantly, it's important to remember that, not that long ago, that was the best thing you could do to improve gaming as a whole. It's only in recent generations (thanks to diminishing returns on graphical improvements) that developers have been struggling to find better ways to improve console gaming, but a lot of people haven't yet realized just how difficult it has become to actually improve graphical fidelity. So, due to the fact that a few generations they would've been (sort of) correct, a ton of people still think that better graphics means better games. Side note: You make it sound like PC is ONLY for people who want high-end graphics, but it's totally possible to get a PC for about the same price as a console that plays pretty much all the same games. PC's require more know-how to get the best out of them (which is perfectly reasonable if you don't want to invest the time for that), but that doesn't mean that they're just for high-end stuff.

Graphics and kiddiness are the focus of adolescent kids that want to play games that make them feel grown ups. I was by that alley till my 20's (I'm 32 now). My last Nintendo console was an N64, but with the Cube it was unfortunate that my first and only contact with it was a group of kids playing Mario Party. Also, I got a Ps2 because everybody had one. We seasoned gamers need to teach younger ones that graphics arent anything. By now I got almost all of the main consoles of each generation and my own kid is growing in a gaming environment so diverse I hope he can grow up free of this kind of bullshit thinking.

James Langston cartridges are an issue to gamers and developers. 1. devs are going to think about spending more money to make games for Nintendo because cartridges have more manufacturing costs. 2. cartridges means no future updates, Unlike the ps4 or xbox one that have discs dump all data into your console the Switch will play games straight from cartridges and that means No future updates if a game has unknown bugs or balanced issues, that's means if a game is released on the Switch and it has issues it will stay broken because of cartridges. you never saw updates to 3ds games did ya?...that's because you can't update a game that runs straight from a cartridge.

What do you guys think about the fact that the Switch reveal was directed entirely at Millennials? I think Nintendo's strategy this time around is to get the attention of everyone who grew up with Nintendo and rekindle the flame. I can tell you what's going on with less sales on Nintendo consoles. It's a mixture of many small things: - Poor reputation. All this "Nintendo bans fangames" here, "Nintendo bans KZbin Videos" there talk, whether you're on one side or another, rubs people the wrong way. It doesn't matter what stance they have, it's controversial and people just don't like how all those controversial things are - for the most part - flat out negative for consumers. - Poor Online capabilities. This ties in with their reputation. Nintendo's last 2 consoles had mediocre to decent internet. Other consoles - and especially the PC - has better Internet capabilities. Thus Nintendo's platforms are seen as non-internet consoles. Which is not too wrong but not fully right. Smash 4's netplay was always decent for me and from what I've gathered Splatoon was great. SMM was also amazing and did a lot right (and a few things wrong like no direct search and no further DLC but that's another story) - "Always 1 step behind". Ever since the GCN, Nintendo consoles were seen as an aside rather than a competitor to the Xbox and the Playstation. They have less power, so ports need to be scaled down or just aren't a thing. The Wii U especially was a big problem with its clunky hardware which gave programmers headaches (from what has been told. I'm no Gamedev so what do I know.) This also hurts their rep and puts them into this 1st-party-only console kind of spot (aside from the Wii which had dozens of shovelware games..But who wants those?) (Edit: GCN>PS2 but since the PS2 had a DVD drive and the xbox had proper online, the GCN was kind of the odd one out.) - Weird treatment of core franchises. Where's F-Zero? Why change the PM formula? What's going on with Metroid? Things like these annoy people but I think this is fairly minor. Wii U still had amazing 1st party titles, no doubt about it. And the last and biggest point: PC gaming. It's becoming bigger and bigger. I'd like to say that it hurts the PS4 and Xbone the same but it really doesn't seem to bother those 2 too much. I personally vouch for a PC+Nintendo style of gaming as most 3rd party games I want are released for PC and Nintendo usually has the coolest novelties and 1st party games (Smash for life) but I believe most kids growing up at the moment would rather play Minecraft, Minecraft and Minecraft than Nintendo games. Seriously, that game's a phenomenon in and of itself. Add to that the fact that PCs are becoming more and more mandatory in one way or another in your life and you got yourself another problem for Nintendo. I'm crazy hyped for the Nintendo Switch, but I see why Nintendo has been stagnating in the console department.

Don't worry so much about fewer kids being born into Nintendo households. The reason there are less is because, back in the NES days, Nintendo owned the entire market. Then in the SNES days, they had to split it with SEGA. By the time N64 rolled out, there were more alternatives, and that has remained the case. Nintendo isn't falling off. They're just getting more competition when they had a virtual monopoly at first. Oh. And if Nintendo dies, at least they'll die like SEGA, and not be gone for good. ...Right?

A Gamer Aaron Very true. Of course they are. I was just saying that, in the beginning, Nintendo HAD to have a giant share, because they had cornered the entire U.S. game market back in the 80s. Things HAD to decline from there, because of the simple fact that they got legit competition where over time where there was none before. Nintendo practically had ALL the customers before, and that isn't sustainable. Nintendo isn't in trouble. People simply have strong choices now when they didn't before, so Nintendo no longer gets to enjoy a near monopoly. Plus, the market IS much bigger, so even if they've lost customers, the pie is bigger.

I agree 100%. In a way, I find it unfortunate, as a lot of DS and 3DS games relied on it, but maybe Nintendo will port those games to Mobile Phones. As for Gyro Controls, I don't see Nintendo not including them in some capacity, since Metroid Prime felt better with Wiimote aiming than its GC controls, and the same goes for other First Person games. Gyro is the Mouse of consoles when it comes to aiming.

They're gonna have to if they want to let future players enjoy those games. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks requires touch controls, and with how the boomerang and its puzzles are set up, it can't be converted to normal controls without changing the content. Square Enix ported DS games to Mobile, Nintendo probably will too.

And then yeah, the ugly pro controller, with asymetrical thumb sticks is a bummer too, the Wii U's Pro controller was heavenly, they should have just added motion controls and let it continue it's life as the Switch pro.

no nope nope. the right stick needs to be below the buttons for it to be comfortable. theres a reason no one uses the wii u pro controller for smash.
