Thanks for another great report from NZL. I don't think the boom under deck gives them any more control over the clew than a traveller... after all, the boom is attached to a traveller track under the deck. A boom only gives extra clew control if it moves vertically as well as horizontally. The boom is for housing hydraulics and structural support. I am not even certain it can be called a boom.
@mastermindquiet3 жыл бұрын
Mozzy, thanks for posting your reply. I was scratching my head about that "boom" as well. Seems like a lot of complexity for something that could be approached in a simpler way. Is there some chance that perhaps Luna Rossa was originally going to have a hard boom on the foot of the sail, then decided to go with the soft boom and rather than redesign everything, just lowered the boom (forgive the play on words) and created a false deck above it for aerodynamic purposes? I'm grasping at straws here, but I'm at a loss to think of a more logical reason.
@rogertreadingham8763 жыл бұрын
The under deck boom obviously does give more control to the main, compare Luna Rossa's main to the mess arround the boom on Britannia. The traveller can allow the leach tension to be controled but a boom can allow two outhauls at the clew to control the camber on both skins by pushing against the mast using the boom to absorb the compression forces.
@MozzySails3 жыл бұрын
@@rogertreadingham876 how does it give more control? It is not more physically attached to the sail than a traveller
@rogertreadingham8763 жыл бұрын
@@MozzySails I'm trying to figure out how the outhauls work. On a conventional setup the outhaul lines are led back along the boom to the mast/boat. The boom takes the compression loads. With just a traveller what do the horizontal forces on the outhaul push and pull against. I presume you mean its the traveller carriage itself which would put quite a load on the carriage. I guess there must be an arrangement on the traveller to allow for the horizontal movement of the two clews.

Pretty sure that was "leaked on purpose, just to distract the opponent, just like I think that the code 0 on ETNZ was just a bluff to show off. At this point,there is no time that an opponent could gain any advantage from this video (if it shows even the actual configuration,could well be an old or fake clip).especially Team Emirates has such a radically different boat that there is simply no way that they could adapt any of this stuff... now its like in the pre match time between 2 boxers,trying to make the opponent nervous. For the start practices I con understand that the kiwis are practicing them a lot,it really was they're week point in the Christmas cup.and on the other hand Jimmy and Checco have shown that they are spot on and sharp in the starting box! Can't wait for the first races and see how they are stacking up. For sure the wind conditions will have an impact.the two boats approched from completely opposite side.with Luna Rossa focusing on the lower windrange first and working they're way up and Team NZ doing the opposite,starting from the higher wind range on than tuning it down the wind range. I hope that the races will be close and exiting and not overshadowed by dubious decisions of the Umpire.... Forza Luna Rossa!

I read some really free comments in these pages (I see they are truly inexpensive), like Italy that would be putting Australians lives of at risk, or selfish Luna Rossa for having only called Ineos to respect the rules decided and signed together since many months. In Italy we are 70% below the vaccination targets set for vaccinations, and with us more than half of Europe, for the sole fact of having trusted AstraZeneca, Pfizer. We are sick and tired of the twists and turns of the British and American companies, of Mr. Boris Johnson who changes the cards on the table at every turn. This morning an e-mail correspondence between Astrazeneca offices came out that finally clarifies that they are the real and unforgivable liars in this whole story and if it were up to me I would put them out the door and they would not sell even one aspirin in Italy anymore which , I remind all the detractors of this splendid country, is a very rich country and doesn't owe its wealth to anyone but its residents. But I can understand the ease with which one puts the cross on the shoulders of others from far away. I apologize for my english but I am deeply sure that words are clear enough to let you understand.

Hang on...Luna Rossa has been race-ready since disposing of Ineos. Of late, ETNZ has tried new sails, tried new jibs, tried a cut down leach, tried code zero turns, practiced "diverse" pre-start strategies/maneuvers as well as copying and practicing the Italian's 2 helmsmen approach....I repeat, OF LATE. Is there NO integrity left in this sport? This race should be in it's final stages. Instead, it's in NZ's R&D or should I say, copy-cat stages. Has anyone informed Covid that we will be in level 2 as soon as ETNZ get's their "stuff" in order? All of this while Luna Rossa waits patiently. ...disgraceful!

if you're gunna draw a long bow try not to shoot yourself in the foot, dingus. the first race was scheduled for Saturday. nz's c19 lockdown has pushed it out to next Wednesday. @supmikpaddleboarding58713 жыл бұрын
Oh come on,do you really think that the NZ government has nothing better to think about then the AC?So far they do a pretty good job by keeping the Covid emergency well under control.i wish that our Italian government would have been so fast and strikt with there decisions,so maybe we wouldn't be in such a mess right now.if anything than this delay costs ETNZ 2 pretty windy days over the weekend where they have supposedly they're strong points. I really understand and feel what this meens for the whole hospitality sector because I work in this sector here in Italy and basically we are not allowed to work since December,because our government was to afraid to take the right decisions ahead of time. I hope for all the kiwis that things will keep on well under control. To all:stay healthy,stay safe and take care.and let it be an exiting Cup Final! Forza Luna Rossa!

@@supmikpaddleboarding5871 Allow me to take a different tack. Comparing Italy to New Zealand regarding the C19 outbreak is like comparing zerbras to horses. That aside, let me say this. NO "hard" changes should be allowed from the start or through-out the event for any team....period. This is the craft that got you here. This is the craft you race. Strategies, practices, etc. I get that. Revamping, redesigning or copying the competitor should simply not be allowed "in race". You race with what got you here....period.

@@tinolino58 Agreed! Problem, reaction, solution. They create a 'problem', we react and then they offer a solution which was the objective in the first place, in this case it's the vaccines. One thing I credit the Italians immensely about is their resistance to the unprecedented lockdown mandates worldwide, which are nothing but martial law light and a limited form of house arrest. Illegal in virtually every country because they were enacted through diktat, yet only in Italy have the people actually done something about it besides complain and protest. They resist through non-compliance. We should all take a cue from them.
@supmikpaddleboarding58713 жыл бұрын
First of all it was brought forward from the Italians but the decision has been made on European level, and the reasons for that are pretty obvious.in the last 24h in Australia there have been registered 11 new cases,and 20 persons are hospitalised in total.australia has ordered a total of 100 million doses of the vaccine although they have only 25millions of inhabitants.by seeing the situation here in Europe and how slow the vaccination process is going on I can totally understand this decision. Furthermore you have to know that Astra Zeneca,who is the producer of the 250.000 vaccine doses which has been blocked from export,is the producer who just 1 month ago has told the UE that they will not be able to deliver the amount of vaccines in time which have previously been declared under contract.in the meantime they are exporting left and right to the one who offers the most.Israles has the highest vaccination rate worldwide because they are paying triple the price for example. It just shows once again how corrupt our Kapitalist system is!!ps: i really don't think that this will impact in anyway on the mood of the Luna Rossa crew...they are so focused right now,and especially Jimmy has a big Payback day in his mind!! All you people stay healthy ,stay safe and take care.... and the AC is really exiting,but in the end only another sailboat race,nothing more and nothing less...✌
