Conor McGregor never fought in his prime.
Dana White and UFC have not allowed Conor McGregor the biggest star in MMA to fight agaisnt Michael Chandler on UFC 300 and it's a sign of how Dana White and the UFC have not let Conor Mcgregor fight during his prime. Conor has fought agaisnt Khabib, Nate Diaz, Dustin Poirier, but when he won the lightweight belt and featherweight belt he has not had many fights since. Conor is still an all time great up there with Jon Jones but he really could have been the Best UFC fighter of all time if he was able to fight a little more!

Everyone is saying Conor was wasted but not talking enough about how Chandler is the real loser here. Chandler hasn't fought since November of 2022, if they fight in the fall Chandler will have been off almost 2 years after having close fights against Dustin and Justin. Chandler is way too old to take off 2 years. And if I'm honest I don't think the fight is happening at all, Chandler will have wasted a couple years for absolutely nothing.

Conor was NEVER double champion in my eyes. Dana White told him if he doest defend his 1st belt, he would have to forfeit it because he was holding up the featherweight division. Conor said fuck you and went for the lightweight belt. Also, they say you arent really a champion until you DEFEND and WIN 1 match. He never defended either of his belts ONCE.

Imagine if: -Instead of the DIaz fights (albeit entertaining) a single title defense against either Edgar or Aldo 2 (I believe he would win that even without a 10 second round)-> pretty much FW GOAT -Alvarez/RDA in 2016 ( I'm pretty sure RDA would have lost against Mcgregor also) -No Floyd shenenigans and instead a 2017 defence against Tony or Khabib-> He migth very well have lost in 2017 anyway, but his odds would have been far greater and either outcome would have looked better for his legacy

I genuinely think Conor could’ve made a comeback right after the Cowboy fight. He looked and seemed like he was in the right headspace. Then COVID happened and I think the UFC didn’t want to waste Conor fighting in the Apex due to a lack of an audience. After all of that we got “nice guy” McGregor that seemed fake, and then suddenly an angry Conor in the span of a few months. Now it’s to the point where he doesn’t seem to care anymore and I don’t see him winning again, if he ever fights again

Conor came into it,raised the company’s fame to shy high because of who he was and what he did and the company extended his legacy the most they could without risking him much and they still keep on doing it. The most standard thing to hear from a fighter is that he wants to fight. The easiest thing for UFC to do is to keep the anticipation and interest around his name by NOT having him fight. Pretty obvious really as he wouldn’t be on TUF otherwise. UFC and Mac keep using each other with the less risk possible and their marketing works wonders. He will fight Chandler but only when the time is right!Perhaps will be on 300 where it makes most sense but certainly don’t expect to see him back in the regular fighting game. He doesn’t need the fighting game either ways.

Mcgregor should’ve carried on after the cerrone fight, he seemed like he learned his lessons after khabib, genuinely motivated and looked great. Then taking another full year off after only 45 seconds fight time is insane. To then put him in against an active top 5 guy like Dustin was a recipe for disaster. Connor even seemed to be overlooking Dustin and no where near as focussed as he did a year prior. I understand there was covid restrictions but they didn’t need to wait a year!

I think Conor can stay fighting in the top 10 until he chooses to retire in his early to mid 40's. There are many fighters that have been champions and top 5 fighters well into their 40's. I think this 25-35 being the prime is not accurate some people can hold onto that prime well into the 40's depending on the person

While I love Conner and hate Dana White, you’re also ignoring the fact that Conner had been doing steroids since he broke his leg and has avoided the USADA drug testing, which is required 6 months prior to fighting. Connor and Dana thought they’d be able to blackmail USADA into 2 months of drug testing with the renewal of the contract between USADA and the UFC being dependent on Connor fighting, but the were unable to.

Totally agree with a lot of what people are saying here. The UFC didn’t waste Conor’s prime, he did that himself. I was a huge Conor fan when he first got into the UFC; he was brash but entertaining, backed up his shit talking in his fights, and was a damn surgeon in the Octagon with how he fought. But then we all saw how much of a POS he was with the bus incident, allegations of cheating on his wife (who was loyal af to him), his supposed refusal to defend his TWO division belts, his many bar room brawls & assault cases/allegations, and just how much it seems like he doesn’t care anymore because he’s just so rich now. I don’t feel bad for him, the UFC should move on and continue to discover new talent that actually wants to fight but they won’t because he rakes in too much revenue when he fights (or rather, when he decides he wants to).
