How the woke BBC smeared Scouts founder Baden-Powell as a Nazi sympathiser | History Defended

By all accounts, Robert Baden-Powell was an extraordinary man.
He lived many lives; from his time as a spy to the Victorian hero of the Boer War, and finally as the founder of the international Scouts movement.
However, his detractors accuse him of having Nazi sympathies, and of committing terrible crimes in colonial Africa.

It wasn't "torn down", they took it down for a month to protect it because the council thought it was going to be defaced by BLM protestors. It was a total non-issue.

The reporter is being slightly disengenious when talking about the statue outside Baden Powell House in London. In actual fact the Scout Association SOLD Baden Powell House to a hotel chain and the statue was moved to Gilwell park, the world centre of Scouting.

During the siege of mafeking in the second boer war he was affectionately known by his men as bathing towel due to the fact he was often seen bathing in a tin bath and often walked about with a towel round his waist .

Interesting documentary but Mafeking was a Boer / Afrikaner town even though the British forces were besieged there in the Boer war. So were the first Boy Scouts Boer boys?

My research indicates that Mafeking was a British railway town established outside the existing Barolong town of Mafikeng. My candidate for the first Boy scout would be a young Barolong boy called Phalaetsile whose adventures are described in Sol Plaatje's Mafeking Diary

Scouting is a movement. A lot of national associations have acted in that way and revalued their activities to match it. Only those being stuck in traditional attitudes will go down, being targeted by the woke critics. Anyone researching Baden Powell thoroughly will rather come across a very critical person than someone flowing with the stream. Let's face it: Nobody of that era had values matching 21st Century ideals. Get used to that.
