@terryomalley197422 күн бұрын
Part of the reason for that is the huge expense if outfitting your kids for hockey, plus the ice time fees and travel costs. Another reason for the decline in participation in Canada is that most immigrants nowadays come from warm climate countries where soccer is king and they don't assimilate into Canadian society once here.

At one time the vast majority of games were played on the local outdoor rinks and you got maybe one game a week at an indoor arena. This was probably a lot cheaper than the playing indoors all the time like they do now. I don't know what happened to the old neighbourhood leagues that most kids played in. The lads who were really good would funnelled into higher tier teams and play more indoor games but the neighbourhood leagues had almost everyone playing and the cream would float to the top. I've heard insurance became too expensive for the old neighbourhood leagues.
@terryomalley197422 күн бұрын
@barryj388 I remember as a kid in St. Catharines in the 70's, we used to have practices at the Haig Bowl, an outdoor rink that doubled as a lacrosse arena in the summer. It was great! I think when we decided to make Hockey about money rather than a tool designed to turn young boys into men the game has been on a slow decline. When the average kid isnt allowed to play due to the cost invloved we create a smaller pool of talent. I mean look at how many private hockey schools exist today that draw away from the community based sport were parents are mortgaging there houses for ther kid to play. Go into a sports store today and look at the cost of the equipment were parents are forking over more than a grand for a pair of skates or $200 to $ 400 for a stick its completely insane. Our country needs to take back our sport and give it back to the kids like Sweeden were no kid gets left behind, in otherwords kick out the money lenders from the temple and returnd to a life lesson based system for our kids and we will be great again.

Honestly Hockey is slowly dying out in Canada, and there’s a lot of reasons why this is happening, right now as we speak soccer is overtaking hockey in Canada along with basketball, now Trudeau is to blame for a lot of this because the number one biggest reason why Hockey is dying is because the common person simply just can’t afford to play, Hockey is crazy expensive especially if your kids good enough to play travel, I’ve heard 5 to 15 grand a year for Hockey, on top of everything else that is so expensive with inflation and our economy, which all falls on Justin Trudeau, another big reason is the politics and Hockey, especially if you’re on Ontario born and raised, you pretty much have to play in Toronto in hopes of getting noticed by scouts, how many great hockey players have you known that never made it simply because of politics?

By contrast, Team China can play anywhere on Canadian ice, can appeal referee calls it dislikes and negotiate compensation for damages while in the penalty box behind closed doors. The terms agreed to by PeePee the 20 year professional politician and his boss are unprecedented and would be laughed out of Britain, Brussels, Canberra or Washington. The focus is never on excellence, or determination, or commitment, or teamwork. It’s all about play, or fun, or disabilities, or whatever. We don’t even show our special athletes winning or boost the actual program or level of play in the game. Hockey, like any sport, is broadly unifying when played at a high level. they opted for team ontario instead of team canada. the days of canada's dominance of hockey are over. the world has finally caught up and smaller nations are doing a better job of developing their youth. we have to go to chekia and sweden and see what they are doing.

To call that a team I disgraceful to the sport.

Add the Leafs to this idea. A weak uncompetitive country produces weak uncompetitive sports teams.

Great video. I've been aWay from tv for years. Played hockey at a pretty high level back in the day. This team sounds like there was DEI involved.

Thing is as a latvian. I wana say still huge feat. Latvia has less then 200 rinks a worse economy then canada by large. And 1,5mil people only. And most dont play yet we are still a hockey nation. And our hockey is growing and getting bettee by the day because latvia doesnt have a league where most can settle so kids and there parents try there hardest to get them in iihf and anywhere for the love of the game. Sad loss today against sweeden that 1 goal shouldve been denied clearly a huge miss by the refs. But what a good run. 2023 medal and now this love the game.

The 72 Summitt Series would of never been close had Bobby Orr and Bobby Hull we're playing in it. The two best players at the time.

People place way to much value, on something that was designed to keep the people distracted. Circus and bread my friend. Sport means literally nothing, and has no effect on 99.9% of peoples day to day life.

When it comes to hockey, I'll watch playoffs, Olympic, and World Juniors. This team isn't playing to win (final 90 seconds of regulation time against Latvia shows that), they are playing "not to lose". And what is with the 3 high, 2 low formation they do in every game in every tournament? Don't forget that Germany had a very good chance to beat Canada as well (don't let the 3-0 final score fool you). There's a part of me that wanted them to lose so they could be sent to the relegation round.

I think Trudeau picked the team and coaches. Should have picked a team lead by a small fringe minority
@allancole915822 күн бұрын
Lots blaming coaching and I agree! But we have to ask who picks the coach that’s who should be questioned

Canda used to be great, I’m from Hartford, Chris Pronger was a specimen. I’m surrounded by weak soft beta leftist here. Canada is even worse. Your plush marshmallows, take your country back. Im leaving for Florida.

More trans players needed. That’ll deepen the talent pool. 😂
