the "don't overcomplicate things; just climb and work on your weaknesses" is SOOO relieving and encouraging. thank you so much for saying that, Mat. really makes me want to practice and get over the overwhelm.
@princeofexcess

or your strength. You can work on your strength and still get better at climbing. A lot of progress does follow S shape graph where you gain a lot for little early on and later on you gain very little for lot. I think finger strength and back strength are a real insane acceleration if you are a new climber. They pay dividends later on so much

I love how this showed a world class climber falling off boulders and not flashing everything in a gym. Sets real expectations. Even the best can’t flash everything like you see in some videos.
@diesel1358
@diesel1358 Жыл бұрын
Comp climbers can definitely flash everything in a gym. Depends on the gym. As this guy said he’s an outdoor climber. He should’ve also mentioned that in addition to his hard work and dedication, he is very naturally talented for climbing.
@powslayz3690
@powslayz3690 4 ай бұрын
@@diesel1358na he researched and master technique as soon as he can as it makes the climbs easier and make you feel lighter durin it. strength is okay but technique multiplies strength. dont ever say someone is naturally talented or gifted, bro was obsessed with climbing and grinded hard with the right knowledge not to mention he was very young, bro testosterone was through the roof. its possible to gain that progression, u need think bout how u train and what u need to train then figure out your weaknesses and work on them. when u fail, do u give up or think about what went wrong? were u able to grab the hold? cause if not then u need to go start trainin strength either crimp or lockoff. if u can grab the hold but cant make the next move, is your body in the right position? are you applying the right technique to make the climb as easy as possible? every good climber can make a v4 look like a v1, why is that? is it A. they’re strong? or B. they apply technique? the answer is B in every single grade, strength is not neccessary but there are different types of strength. the one im talkin about is pullup strength, its not neccessary to train. there is a japanese olympic climber that cant do OAP but can max hang 100kg additional weight added on a 20mm edge. lockoff strength is probably the most useful and most neccessary to have so i’d go lockoff > crimp > pullup but learn technique first because that is your biggest weakness as a beginner. once u unlock the skills of the foundational technique/basic, u can then train strength to mix in with it

It’s crazy the way Matt grabs holds. Like the second he touches any hold his fingers just do not move a centimeter. It is unreal. He just is so strong and sticky.
@5tr4nge75
@5tr4nge75 2 ай бұрын
You can work on this yourself Do a drill towards the end of your warm up where you hover your hand above the hold for a second, and then when you grab the hold, do NOT move your hand, if you’ve grabbed the hold in a slightly suboptimal position, you just have to suck it up and deal with it, you have to move with your hand in that position. Over time you’ll instinctively either start grabbing holds in the right position, or be comfortable enough to move off less than perfectly grabbed holds I’ve been doing this for a few months, and it’s made a world of difference to my climbing, especially outside

It is something after only 3 months @mmm-yw3hu . The problem with his kind of video is giving the impression that it's a race, that tou have to be fast learning, pushing your body to the limits. It's the best way to have an injury trust me ! @pauortega9954 Listen to your body, don't forget to train the rest of your body with some exercices specific to a body part (shoulder with an elastic, lower body etc...) so you're trying to put some diversity in your trainings. If you push too hard, only climbing, not resting, the risk of injury is pretty high. Maybe some people with a strong genetic could keep on like this, but certainly not everyone. It's not a race ! you have the time, so give some time for your body to adapt ;)

Viewer discretion NOT recommended to TR solo without doing your own research 3:15 Test before you risk your life Hard not easy has also covered grigri slippage, though there are ways around it - it is not sold as a self arrest device Really loved the insights into mental and training! This is just for us who get excited about an idea and not realise the risks behind using gear which isn’t rated for those situations. Different ropes will behave differently, and at different heights while on the wall, lowering on dynamic rope can cause sudden slippage if it’s under tension ect

Will be climbing with a partner on occasion however theres plenty of occasions i could climb on my lonesome! Gotta talk about finger tendon health at the beginning tho. With such a quick jump in grade at the start of his climbing career, it is super easy to tear a pulley in a finger. These tendons take about 8 times longer than muscles to adapt tk the stresses of intense climbing. Stay safe out there folks. Remember to give ample rest time.. first 6-12 months go climb at maximum strength 1-2 times a week max and take care of those hands! But try hard and have fun :)

I think there is a big misconception for many people: that is when people see a person moving up the ladder so quickly from V0 to V15, they always think this person JUST climbing better than me. In reality, people who can progress very quickly have more structured and scientific training programs, more consistent with their training routine and progress every day, more focus on their weaknesses, more positive altitude during hard times. All the above factors add up like compound interest day by day, year by year, then a world class climber can be a reality.
@SquidInkSpaghetti
@SquidInkSpaghetti Жыл бұрын
Well, I would say I’ve progressed fairly fast and I don’t think things about having a structured training routine and stuff like that is super super helpful for me. I would say (for me) just having a good attitude and watching others climb is much more helpful. Edit: When watching others climb try copying exactly what they do (even if they are of a much different stature) to build up different technical skills. Even if someone is climbing a boulder or route I’ve already sent, I still try to copy them if it seems like their beta is unique or different to mine.

Haha I started the same age as Mat. But for a pro climber and someone at his level 16 is pretty late

Yeah, that's also so fast! Amazing. I've been bouldering for little less than a year now. And I'm hoping to send my first 6B soon. (Though I didn't do much sport as an adult (40 yo female) so I didn't start out very strong - can do three chin-ups and almost one pull up now, so still a work in progress 😅)

@@HariGardnerof course not. Nobody's saying that. But those at the bleeding edge like Matt (V15 and above) are absolutely blessed with the right genetics to be able to climb that hard.
