I think the waiting part of the game was essential for the game. It punishes players for rushing (and most likely doesn't do their planning) but the looting is rewarding enought that player would still advances. And rapidly repeating the same action and just looting the same level 6 medium house kills the experience. And yes i agree with you, Con artist should re-release it on steam. "Saves are the hardest part of game dev" This is SO FUCKING TRUE in software engineering in general. We refer to it as "persistence" and broadly it refers to all the data you need you keep on the hard drive to restore the state of your software. What makes it hard is that you need to expose ALL of the necessary data to your persistence code, and you need to keep your persistent data compatible with all past versions, and plan for all future versions. On the loading side, you need to be able to make the state of all your game code configurable by the persistence data. It's really hard to do well!
@godw1ll992 жыл бұрын
its really not that hard, well as hard as coding whatever it is that you need the persistence for anyway, but its definitely something that nearly doubles the workload.

@zacharychristy89282 жыл бұрын
@@robocu4 you say that like it's simple! Haha. When you have potentially thousands of different classes and fields, are you going to create default values for all of them? There are plenty of cases where default values don't even make sense, or the presence of some values mean you HAVE to have other values, or sometimes a value is null because the data is stored somewhere else now so you have to have logic to retrieve it. All of this is just a big lasagna of complexity that gets a new layer every time you add more information to your save files. It can get out of hand quickly for anything past small, simple projects.

The only one I didn't play was Dead Zone, but I have played the first one every few months religiously since 2009. Just picked up Aftermath and the Legacy Collection to relive my old memories and make new ones.

This was a great documentary. I've been a huge fan of this whole franchise for years starting wayyyyy back lots of years ago when i started playing last stand 1 on our old family computer. I've always been fascinated by the gameplay loop of this game. I remember my countless of playthroughs on union city and hours put into replaying both last stand 1 and 2 which was a very amazing experience, this is one of the best flash games out there that made my childhood along side earn to die.

The old times of pausing the game to reload your shotgun Or glitching the hunting rifle to have 999 shots Successfully getting into union city beta A simpler time, we can only hope he one day releases his new game( oh he did )or brings back that modern tug of war game

There was another glitch where shooting an automatic weapon and immediately switch to the shotgun while firing. Turning it into a full auto shottie. Man, I remember me and my cousin's shock when we accidentally discovered this and proceeded to blaze through the game while using the pause reload bug for the shotgun

I already have this game on my wishlist and didn't even realize that it was made by the same developers. Its incredible that there is not only such a nostalgia but such an impact that this game is so representative of not just our childhoods but our era in a sense. That we all relate on some level to growing up as kids bypassing school proxxy servers to enjoy a childhood innocence- a respite from whatever problems we all had growing up- and that all of us are grown now. Game dev, gamers, hell some of us gamers have children of our own now building a childhood nostalgia of their own.

I really enjoyed The Last OG Stand and bought Aftermath. At first I was frustrated with the loss of life when you die the first time, but then when you remember that the first thing the game tells you is that you are infected and your goal is to support the next survivor who in turn assists the colony as a whole. As you think this way you can change the mindset from "I need to survive and collect loot to upgrade me" to "I need to cut through the world and achieve goals before the colony dies". Sure, we don't see the colony again since we are sent on a one-way mission out further and further away, not being able to travel backwards, but that trip is more of a self-sacrificial hero role that you go for a cause. No longer surviving for surviving's sake. I really like this. Live for others

Lols with exploits you can basically play the game to top tier levels. Double UCS book bug gets you almost instant return time then combine that with the infinite fuel bug you can basically pay to win the game using the fuel like buying tons of keys to trade OP gear and open boxes or trade for prems and also craft OP crafts
@ZachX888Ай бұрын
@@nguyenquyetthang1326 That's what was fucking wrong with it. >:( I shouldn't have to pay ANY amount of money on in-game crap. DLC that adds loads of content is fine, but having to pay that kind of money? ON A SINGLE ITEM? That is complete bullshit. NO game should EVER do shit like that.

There's just something so heartwarming about hearing how a seemingly simple Flash game project (at that time) can even go on to become a big IP, and influence other IPs as famous as Call of Duty to make similar content. It's insane how things blow up.

Plenty of Flash games branched out and tweaked their formulas/genres in pursuit of the next big thing. I think The Last Stand might be one of the best examples of actually navigating multiple genres equally successfully!

I really hope they bring back some part of deadzone. Maybe instead of a multiplayer game you get raided by bandits or something. (tbh it became much more single player anyway due to the perm white flag book being a thing) Deadzone could have been a single player game from the get go and would've still been a super fun time.

You made me remember something I have almost forgotten, the era where I only played Facebook games. Back then I played this game, Last Stand Dead Zone with PvZ Adventures, a knockoff version of CoC (Ninja Kingdom), Dragon City, Monster Legends, and a game that made me question my future profession, Criminal Case good times. I was almost maxed out on every game without spending real money on none of this games. For about 3 years, I didn't have a Legendary monster in Monster Legend, but had everything from the store and I almost hacked the Dragon City gems, but after failing, I stopped playing it (Monster Legends is better).

I'm glad someone is paying attention to great flash games. I feel like a lot of them are becoming basically lost media as they rarely had anything like a wiki. I have a couple of flash games in my memory that I have no idea how to find, like a WWI trench zombie game, similar to TLS but placed from first person. I recently found a point and click adventure game that I remembered being awesome, I didn't know at the time that it was basically a rip-off of The Mist

Yes, the games were amazing and I remember when every one of them came out. I was always hyped and never disappointed. I followed ConArtist's work very closely back in the day and loved how he evolved the franchise. The memories are grand and all, but I've only been able to achieve the same kind of fun in Project Zomboid since. There aren't that many zombie games that do it right. I think zombie survival games thrive the most on NOT doing anything extra, just by placing you in the experience of here are zombies, don't get bitten, shoot to kill, maybe survive.

Hey you ! I'm in midwatch of the video but I gotta praise you man. 7 months ago I went aware of your channel by an answer you gave me on twitter and I suggested that you put forward how some games had an impact on the mainstream culture and how games are shaped to this day thanks to flash counter culture. And this video is exactly that and I'm thrilled. This video so far is so amazing and insightful, I can't believe you do such quality content for not a very big fan base. Even though it is a lovely one. Anyway I don't actually think my comment did anything at all back then, except showing that you were a cool dude checking your comments and giving some good answers about your content. But I just wanted to come back in order to say a simple thing. Your content is amazing I'm impressed by how the quality keeps getting higher with time. And I wish you the best in your life's endeavors and life itself let's be honest :p Cheers mate
