Here is a thing you should know. I've seen a different version of this method. A low level player asks for a regular item, like a stack of flint of smth. You buy a stack and its regular price. Making you feel safe, then he asks for another stack, this stack being the manipulated stack.

happy to see another video from you I think the situation improved after "recent" update Personal opinion from my perspective: I think if the price is realistic (even if crazy), for example 100 coins for a seed or 100k for enchanted redstone block, 200k for enchanted cane... then it's within limits. Yea, I'm also guity of doing this. If you put up items for much, much, much higher than these, when you are taking over 99% of their money, while the item should never be worth so much under any circumstance, that's not ok. Trying to find players to bait them into instabuying the ridiculous priced items is double shit move, and a scam.

OMG FINALLY, I've always been waiting for someone to make a video covering this stuff, I've actually known about this for quite sometime and I feel very passionately about the method being basically scamming and I've always wanted it to die as well. It all started when I was playing on the garden long long ago and I fell for this trap myself, losing me a few million coins, not that much, but I was still pissed, I looked into it and figured out their method and for a while, dedicated myself to trying to block them by watching the manipulation tab for items being bought out and placing expensive items up as a wall that they'd have to get through to be able to setup their trap. I called it my manipulation tax haha. Sometimes they'd make it through the wall and I'd have to fight them to ruin their manip, other times they'd just give up entirely, though it was a losing battle as there would always be more manip happening while I was offline, but I hope I could have at least saved some people some money All that being said, thanks for producing this video, it always pissed me off seeing the arguments in the forums both for and against market manipulation and wither or not it was a scam. (because surprisingly a huge amount of people believe it to not be while so many victims suffer)

Also a few notes, when you accidentally instantly sold items to yourself, this can actually be used to specifically buy specific orders even dodging the prices around them. Why would you do this? Well.. when the order fills it gives you the sellers name. allowing you to figure out exactly who's manipulating, selling or at least.. their alt accounts. And this is how they figured out our hero was manipulating. This was also how they figured out I was griefing them and definitely made an attempt to buy me off, which was super stressful for me haha Also you hit the nail on the head with people hiding their best items, specific manipulators will hold the market share of a specific item, say Enchanted Cactus Green. And manipulate it only at a specific time, steal some money, and when they're done simply put the market back to normal with hundreds of thousands of Enchanted Cactus Green, you know, the Enchanted /Cactus Green they got from buying the market out in the first place. Then certain people would target crops specifically because they know garden players would buy those crops in bulk without looking at the final price. Additionally if those crops happened to be used in actual planting, say a potato or wheat (via the garden's pasting feature) there is a button that automatically buys enough of those crops to plant the plot, then pressing that button would act as yet another way to catch unsuspecting victims off-guard

In a different game, a few years back, I did this kind of market manipulation for a couple days, except without the sneaky part - I literally just price fixed, no deceptive auto-buying component to it. I got bored and didn't care much for that game anyhow, so I dipped. But after watching most of this (only at 43 mins at the moment), I'm just thinking about how I want to keep this in mind for whenever I launch an online marketplace of my own in some kind of game. I'll scan for market manipulation and then set up something like this as an automated part of it whenever it happens to automate defending from it this way.

In my opinion, the most sensible thing would be to introduce an upper limit (which would be determined by the average price). That way, absurdly high prices cannot arise. Yes, the market is limited by this, but it doesn't normally happen that an item rises in price by a factor of 100-1000. Market manipulation would still be possible but not nearly as effective and therefore not as interesting. And very strong video
