I have a full EM built Thoma. And thoma is really good! but i wished some of Thoma’s scalings scale off Elemental Mastery. that would make him stronger. He scales off of HP- but how i wish his shield scales off of EM instead. Also, lower that 80 burst cost energy. it’s too high.

Clorinde + Yae + Thoma +Chevy has become one of my favorite teams and the dude makes playing Clorinde quite comfty due to his shield and since I luckily got him C6 he boost her performance quite a lot. Give it a try :D

To clarify something here, Thoma’s c6 does not increase kinich’s pew pew damage since his pew pews scale off of skill damage. His waves of fire and shield boosts do apply to kinich’s pew pews though.

i wayyy prefer thoma over xiangling in kinich burning teams. thoma can shield, hold deepwood and do off field pyro. plus his application lasts longer. im so glad i dont have to put deepwood on anyone who’s dmg actually matters

Thoma is my personal favorite 4 star. I loved him back when he released and was perceived as really bad. But now I use him soo much, i use him with Kinich, i use Burgeon, Wrio teams, Cheveruse teams too. he’s so mwah 💋

A burgeon Thoma feels like his stats are being stretched in three directions w/ needing enough ER, EM and HP to still be a sufficient shield support

It’s really this that holds him back, especially compared to Kuki. He should’ve had some EM conversion somewhere in his kit, either have his shield scale with EM, give some ER based on EM, or maybe something interesting like sharing a shield strength bonus based on EM kinda like how Kazuha’s DMG% share works.

I've always liked characters like Mr.Thomas and Cookie Chin Obol, to me they always felt like great defensive units that could slot in many teams, people just didn't want to do so since they were never "optimal" or "BiS" in said team. For a long long while I used Kuki in my Itto team, since she'd be healing and providing constant shards, it gave me my first 36* clear. Any character has a use, you just need to apply them well.

there really weren't characters that did normal attacks, desire a shield, and want some extra pyro on their team when he came out but now there are lots of them :) im still salty his shield basically requires NAs thought because he cannot be used with ganyu or lyney

I can’t believe you’re using my favorite Kinich team! The circle impact is just too much to handle, and my Bennet is stuck to my Arlecchino anyway. That’s why I decided to go with TTODS Baizhu, his ability to provide resistance to interruption, buff Furina, and heal the entire team is great. Managing Xiangling’s energy and the positioning of pyronado can be so annoying, so Thoma felt like the perfect fit with his Burgeon procs. Honestly, this team felt surprisingly competitive, offering a lot more comfort.

If you think about it, rn there are only 3 off field pyro applicators, dehya xiangling and thoma, dehya being 5*, your options are xiangling and thoma, its really incredible how in 4 years all of promotional 5* pyros are dps on field, not a single off field dps

i have him on C3 atm but for a Pyro/Geo "shields matter" team instead. with a 50/50 ratio you get 25% damage boost + another 15% boost with shields enabled so, anything from cristallize fragments to Thoma's shield or Xinyan's shield will boost your damage output. probably not as bursty as Burgeon but it's a neat niche strategy.

The thoma team I like playing is Nahida on prototype amber, kazuha, thoma (hp build), and yelan. When kazuha infuses burst w/ pyro he does a good job procing the burngeons and Yelan as a driver gets a lot of reverse vapes or produces a lot of seeds. I use him on Fontaine craftable so everytime Nahida bursts he restores some energy which helps him burst on cd.

I mostly use him as a shielder for hyper carry dps like Wanderer. It makes it much easier to keep energy on Bennett up so you only need 1 E skill to maintain the burst which also lets you use the high base attack weapons easily. This makes him very slightly better than Zhongli in several cases. Mostly a comfort character unless I specifically need the burgeon for something like a combination of pyro and dendro damage when some chambers have cryo and hydro shields.

And I kinda like his moves, they look cool. But yeah, his outfit is plain. I wouldn't say he looks just like an npc but he's like 20% from looking just like them. LOL!

I've been using Thoma more than Zhongli lately as he fits so well on most teams that need a good amount of Off-Field Pyro + he trades the raw damage that Xiangling has for more comfort thanks to his shields.

Kinich is most optimal in a Burning or Burgeon team. Who should I use for Kinich (probably using him with furina or kazuha with bennett), I got c2 Xiangling, c4 thoma, and c0 deyha the current issue with Xiangling is her relic requirements are rough (with awful uptime due to lacking constellations) compared to deyha and thoma for me.

Probably better since tankfei needs tons of hp and er to maintain her shield(maybe use prototype amber for this issue). And not to mention she needs her c4. At least thoma can cast shield with his skill

I feel like he still is a bit annoying to play because of insane ER requirements in Mualani and Burgeon teams without ER sands, C4 or a Pyro teammate and using ER sands makes your burgeon damage lower. Burgeon isnt that insane in my opinion especially because there isn't rlly a lot of teams that allows him to capitalise on his burgeon damage without actively making the team worse e.g. Kinich Also kitain feels horrible to play Although I sound like I hate him I actually like double hydro burgeon it's rlly fun My opinions might change about him when I finish building Kinich so take this comment with a grain of salt

kitain is alright, i've tried both it & fav; i think kitain's fine, you get energy & EM. but the weird loss-gain 1 step back 2 steps forward passive is weird, true i do think that pre-C4 thoma is a bit rough. i do personally think he's a lot better than before, but yeah xiangling is always gonna be ideal over him but i do like that burgeon is more important nowadays
